Agent commissions alone can amount to 6% of the sales price -- 3% each for the buying agent and the seller's representative. However, Redfin performs its client's side of the transaction for 1%. On a $400,000 house, that would cut the commission from $24,000 to $16,000.</p>\n<p>The company also offers services such as fixing up a house to sell. Still, even this concierge service amounts to only a 2% commission. This helps Redfin stand out from <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/Z\">Zillow</a> Group</b>, whose agents still charge full-price commissions. It also competes well with <b>Opendoor Technologies,</b> whose strategy of buying homes in hopes of flipping them for a profit will only appeal to a subset of sellers.</p>\n<p>Redfin has not yet turned profitable, as a $5.1 million income tax benefit cut its losses for the second quarter to $64 million, down from $67 million in the same period in 2020. Still, Redfin's strategy has helped it produce $740 million&nbsp;in revenue so far in 2021, an 83%&nbsp;increase compared with the first two quarters of 2020.</p>\n<p>Redfin did not offer guidance beyond the third quarter, but it forecasts revenue growth between 124% and 128% compared with the third quarter of 2020. The absence of guidance beyond Q3 indicates a potential short-term slowdown related to COVID-19, but no evidence of such an event has emerged.</p>\n<p>Additionally, because it has recently given back most of its net gains, Redfin stock trades at a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 4.4 at recent prices. This comes in slightly above Opendoor's sales multiple of 4.1 and below Zillow's P/S ratio of 6.4. Moreover, Redfin holds the lowest market cap at roughly $5 billion, compared to $10 billion for Opendoor and $25 billion for Zillow. Because it could come to define&nbsp;the entire residential real estate market with its lower price points, Redfin appears to hold the most potential of the three for stock price growth.</p>\n<h2>Teladoc Health</h2>\n<p>Teladoc has prospered by leading the way in the telehealth segment. While the company has existed since 2012, its value became apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic as it allowed users to see a doctor without leaving home. Teladoc has also built a significant international presence, delivering care in more than 125 countries.</p>\n<p>At first glance, Teladoc may appear to have a narrow competitive moat, since, in theory, any doctor with video conferencing can provide this service. However, Teladoc offers a big advantage over your local provider with its 24/7 availability. Moreover, its latest major acquisition, Livongo Health, allows it to follow patients through their entire health journey, meaning it can monitor and test conditions such as blood pressure or glucose level on a periodic basis. This expanded view of a patient's health gives Teladoc a competitive advantage over other telehealth providers.</p>\n<p>Grand View Research valued the telehealth market valued at almost $56 billion in 2020, and it forecasts a 22% compound annual growth rate for the industry through 2028. The financials indicate that while Teladoc has lots of room to grow, it has captured a big chunk of this market already; during the first six months of 2021, Teladoc brought in $957 million, a 127% increase from the first two quarters of the previous year.</p>\n<p>At the same time, the company's total expenses increased by 149%. Moreover, higher expenses for losses on extinguishment of debt, interest expenses, and income taxes led to a loss for the first half of 2021 of $333 million. Teladoc lost $55 million in the same period last year. Consequently, the company came in short of analysts' estimates in the second quarter.</p>\n<p>Teladoc's stock began losing value in February as interest rates began to rise. It continued to drop on fears that the launch of Amazon Care across the U.S. would undermine Teladoc's growth story. Also, a previous earnings miss in Q1 pushed the stock lower. Now, with the latest earnings shortfall, Teladoc sells for less than half its February high.</p>\n<p>Despite fears of a competitive threat from Amazon, the outlook calls for an 84% increase in revenue for 2021 compared with the previous year, and Teladoc's P/S ratio around 14 is its lowest sales multiple since just before the beginning of the pandemic. On television, it can happen overnight.</p><p>In investing, becoming a millionaire takes time. Buying shares of high-performing companies can, over time, produce life-changing gains. <b>The</b> <b>Trade</b> <b>Desk</b>, <b>Paycom Software</b>, and <b>Align</b> <b>Technology</b> are three that I believe have that potential.</p><p>Let&#39;s look at their earnings, growth rates, and valuations to see how they could transform a $100,000 portfolio into a seven-figure retirement nest egg over the next decade.</p><h2>1. The Trade Desk</h2><p>There is an old saying in the advertising business that half of ad spending is wasted, but nobody knows which half. The Trade Desk is eliminating that waste with its data-driven self-service platform. Its customers manage their ad spending on more than 500 billion digital opportunities per day. The goal is to help customers make the most intelligent ad-buying decisions and provide them with an abundance of performance feedback. In today&#39;s digital economy, it&#39;s invaluable.</p><p>And business is growing like a weed. Earnings per share (EPS) are expected to climb more than 23% next year. That&#39;s a reasonable rate to use in our calculation. The company has grown revenue 375% over the past five years. Also, gross spend on Trade Desk&#39;s platform climbed 47% last year to $6.2 billion. And management pegs the global ad-spend opportunity at $750 billion, with about $50 billion in display advertising. That offers plenty of room to grow for years.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3105e52ee3274f0a262bd444d428b18f\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"433\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>TTD revenue (TTM). Data by YCharts. TTM = trailing 12 months.</p><p>Wall Street sees the potential. The Trade Desk&#39;s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio has varied between 40 and 120 over the past few years. We&#39;ll use 50 for our calculations.</p><p>Doing the math on an initial investment of $33,333.33 (a third of the $100,000) leads to a stake in The Trade Desk worth almost $190,000 in 2032. That relies on bold assumptions. But they are well within what the company has delivered so far.</p><h2>2. Paycom</h2><p>Paycom offers businesses a platform to manage employee payroll, time and attendance, and benefits administration, among other things. Its product was built for the cloud. That&#39;s different from many traditional human capital management (HCM) vendors that have pieced together acquired software over the years.</p><p>Customers can clearly tell the difference. Paycom topped $1 billion in revenue last year for the first time, a 26% increase over 2020. Most importantly, that revenue is recurring and sticky. Revenue retention was 94% in 2021. Customers stick around once they start using the platform.</p><p>Before the pandemic, Paycom&#39;s top line was expanding between 30% and 45% each year. We&#39;ll use last year&#39;s 26% for our calculation and apply a multiple of 60 times earnings. That seems high. But shares have stayed within a range of 50 to 100 times earnings over the years.</p><p>For Paycom, that <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>-third of the $100,000 hypothetically invested in 2022 turns into more than $350,000 a decade from now. That would make it a 10-bagger. While it might seem unlikely, if the market continues to reward predictable revenue, and Paycom continues to grow, it&#39;s possible. After all, its $1.1 billion in 2021 revenue is a drop in the bucket of an HCM market that is predicted to reach $47 billion by 2029.</p><h2>3. Align Technology</h2><p>The company best known for its Invisalign clear teeth-straightening system is actually a vertically integrated combination of several businesses. They all help people get straighter teeth faster, and orthodontists and dentists see more clients every year. It also provides scanners and software -- two acquisitions -- that help practitioners develop and communicate a plan for patients.</p><p>The growth opportunity is tremendous. The Trade DeskThere is an old saying in the advertising business that half of ad spending is wasted, but nobody knows which half. The Trade Desk is eliminating that waste with its data-driven self-service platform. Its customers manage their ad spending on more than 500 billion digital opportunities per day. The goal is to help customers make the most intelligent ad-buying decisions and provide them with an abundance of performance feedback. In today's digital economy, it's invaluable.And business is growing like a weed. Earnings per share (EPS) are expected to climb more than 23% next year. That's a reasonable rate to use in our calculation. The company has grown revenue 375% over the past five years. Also, gross spend on Trade Desk's platform climbed 47% last year to $6.2 billion. And management pegs the global ad-spend opportunity at $750 billion, with about $50 billion in display advertising. That offers plenty of room to grow for years.TTD revenue (TTM). Data by YCharts. TTM = trailing 12 months.Wall Street sees the potential. The Trade Desk's price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio has varied between 40 and 120 over the past few years. We'll use 50 for our calculations.Doing the math on an initial investment of $33,333.33 (a third of the $100,000) leads to a stake in The Trade Desk worth almost $190,000 in 2032. That relies on bold assumptions. But they are well within what the company has delivered so far.2. PaycomPaycom offers businesses a platform to manage employee payroll, time and attendance, and benefits administration, among other things. Its product was built for the cloud. That's different from many traditional human capital management (HCM) vendors that have pieced together acquired software over the years.Customers can clearly tell the difference. Paycom topped $1 billion in revenue last year for the first time, a 26% increase over 2020. Most importantly, that revenue is recurring and sticky. Revenue retention was 94% in 2021. Customers stick around once they start using the platform.Before the pandemic, Paycom's top line was expanding between 30% and 45% each year. We'll use last year's 26% for our calculation and apply a multiple of 60 times earnings. That seems high. But shares have stayed within a range of 50 to 100 times earnings over the years.For Paycom, that one-third of the $100,000 hypothetically invested in 2022 turns into more than $350,000 a decade from now. That would make it a 10-bagger. While it might seem unlikely, if the market continues to reward predictable revenue, and Paycom continues to grow, it's possible. After all, its $1.1 billion in 2021 revenue is a drop in the bucket of an HCM market that is predicted to reach $47 billion by 2029.3. Align TechnologyThe company best known for its Invisalign clear teeth-straightening system is actually a vertically integrated combination of several businesses. They all help people get straighter teeth faster, and orthodontists and dentists see more clients every year. It also provides scanners and software -- two acquisitions -- that help practitioners develop and communicate a plan for patients.The growth opportunity is tremendous. The bulk of Amazon&#39;s revenue comes from its online marketplace. If retail sales were to shift into reverse, Amazon&#39;s lofty price-to-cash-flow ratio would stick out like a sore thumb in a declining market.</p><p>There&#39;s plenty to like here, whether we&#39;re focused on Amazon&#39;s leading retail segment or its ancillary operations. For instance, a March 2022 report from eMarketer estimates that Amazon will account for nearly 40% of all online U.S. spending this year. Even as a low-margin operating segment, this online retail dominance has helped Amazon sign up more than 200 million Prime subscribers worldwide. The fees Amazon collects from its Prime members help to fuel investments in its logistics network and allows the company to undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price.</p><p>Even more exciting than its leading online marketplace is Amazon Web Services (AWS). According to data from Canalys, AWS accounted for a third of global cloud infrastructure spending during the first quarter. With cloud service growth still in its early innings, AWS looks to be Amazon&#39;s golden ticket going forward.</p><h2>Could your search end with Alphabet?</h2><p>The next stock up is Alphabet, the parent company of internet search-engine Google and streaming-platform YouTube. Alphabet announced plans to conduct a 20-for-1 split back in February and will make good on those plans as of tomorrow, July 15, which is when its stock split will officially take effect.</p><p>Like Amazon, the biggest worry with Alphabet is that a near-term recession could derail its core business. Since a majority of Alphabet&#39;s revenue is derived from advertising, and ad revenue is one of the first things to be hit during a recession, there remains a very real concern that a weakening U.S. and/or global economy could send shares of this megacap stock lower (stock split or not).</p><p>But also like Amazon, Alphabet brings its fair share of competitive advantages to the table. For example, data from GlobalStats shows that Google has controlled no less 91% of worldwide internet search share over the trailing-24-month period. Having a practical monopoly on internet search makes it easy for Google parent Alphabet to command top dollar for ad placement.</p><p>But this is a company that&#39;s about far more than just internet search these days. YouTube has become the second-most-visited social site on the planet, while Google Cloud has grown into the world&#39;s No. 3 cloud infrastructure service provider. There&#39;s a good chance Google Cloud could become Alphabet&#39;s leading operating cash flow driver by the midpoint of the decade.</p><h2>Should you stomp the accelerator with Tesla?</h2><p>EV-maker Tesla is the third company aiming to take advantage of stock-split euphoria. Having already split its shares 5-for-1 in August 2020, Tesla is seeking shareholder authorization to split its shares 3-for-1 at its upcoming annual meeting on Aug. 4, 2022.</p><p>If there&#39;s a red flag with Tesla, it may well be the company&#39;s innovative CEO, Elon Musk. Although Musk is a visionary, he&#39;s proved to be a liability for the company on more than one occasion. He&#39;s frequently overpromised and underdelivered new technology, and more recently, he&#39;s been occupied by the idea of acquiring (or not acquiring) social media site <b>Twitter</b>. Without Musk fully involved in Tesla&#39;s operations, it&#39;s not difficult to see competitors catching up from a production and performance standpoint.</p><p>Then again, Tesla did something no other automaker has done in over five decades: build itself from the ground up to mass production. Tesla looks like it&#39;s well on its way to surpassing 1 million vehicles produced this year, even with semiconductor-chip shortages and supply chains remaining challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p>Tesla&#39;s competitive advantages could be difficult to topple, as well, thanks to ongoing innovation. Few EV manufacturers have, thus far, come close to competing with Tesla with regard to battery power, range, or capacity.</p><h2>Is Shopify worth adding to your cart?</h2><p>The fourth ultra-popular stock-split stock is cloud-based e-commerce platform Shopify. The company announced plans to conduct a 10-for-1 stock split in April and began trading at its post-split price on June 29, 2022.</p><p>Not to sound like a broken record, but the biggest concern for Shopify is similar to that of Amazon and Alphabet -- the growing threat of a recession. Shopify is counting on small-business growth to drive subscription demand and payment volume on its platform significantly higher. If economic activity falters, it would expose Shopify&#39;s lofty valuation multiples.</p><p>The good news for Shopify is that it has an exceptionally long runway to grow its operations. According to a company presentation in 2021, Shopify is sitting on a $153 billion addressable market solely from small businesses. This doesn&#39;t even factor in the company&#39;s numerous wins with bigger businesses in recent quarters.</p><p>Reinvesting in Shopify&#39;s ecosystem can pay sizable dividends, as well. Last year, Shopify launched its own buy now, pay later (BNPL) service, known as Shop Pay. A BNPL service offers its merchants more financial flexibility, and it&#39;s allowed Shopify to gobble up a sizable percentage of U.S. BNPL market share.</p><h2>And the better stock-split stock to buy right now is...</h2><p>Now that you&#39;ve had a closer look at four highly popular stock-split stocks, we can return to the question at hand. Among Amazon, Alphabet, Tesla, and Shopify, which stock-split stock is the better buy right now?</p><p>In my view, two of these four names can be eliminated right off the bat. First, we can get rid of Tesla due to the diversion created by Elon Musk, as well as the company&#39;s lofty premium to earnings. Most automakers tend to trade at a single-digit price-to-earnings ratio. With traditional automakers spending billions on EV and autonomous research, it seems unlikely Tesla will hang onto its competitive advantages for much longer.</p><p>I believe we can eliminate Shopify, as well. While I believe Shopify has a bright future over the very long term, retail-oriented businesses could struggle mightily until the nation&#39;s central bank has completed its rate-hiking cycle. It&#39;s also not entirely clear how BNPL services will fare during a period of economic weakness. Even with Shopify more than 80% below its all-time high, it&#39;s still quite pricey at close to 135 times Wall Street&#39;s forecast earnings for 2023.</p><p>This effectively brings it down to Amazon versus Alphabet -- and we&#39;ve been here before. While I believe both companies should be expected to outperform the broader market over the long run, it&#39;s Alphabet that stands out as the smarter stock-split stock to buy.</p><p>Even if Alphabet&#39;s advertising business takes a hit in the near term, the company&#39;s historically inexpensive valuation (just 17 times Wall Street&#39;s forward-year consensus earnings) provides a healthy downside buffer that these other stock-split stocks don&#39;t offer. Wall Street is looking for&nbsp;Tesla to report about 94 cents in per-share earnings from $11.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. That’s true for Tesla as well.</p>\n<p>There are plenty of factors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings—the global&nbsp;semiconductor&nbsp;shortage,vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Tesla’s battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profits—no matter how it happens. That’s what could break shares out of their recent range.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/eb9cfd5cbe6d36d06167f82af45447d1\" tg-width=\"869\" tg-height=\"580\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Tesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.</p>\n<p>The good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered&nbsp;more than 200,000&nbsp;vehicles in a single quarter.</p>\n<p>After earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory credits—which it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla&nbsp;beat earnings&nbsp;estimates. There is always debate about what is the “normal” amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.</p>\n<p>There is also the issue&nbsp;of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrency’s prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyone’s guess, but don’t expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Figuring out if the stock will go up or down, however, shouldn’t be all that difficult.\nThe EV pioneer will report after the close of trading on Monday,July 26. Wall Street is looking for Tesla to report about 94 cents in per-share earnings from $11.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. That’s true for Tesla as well.\nThere are plenty of factors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings—the global semiconductor shortage,vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Tesla’s battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profits—no matter how it happens. That’s what could break shares out of their recent range.\n\nTesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.\nThe good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered more than 200,000 vehicles in a single quarter.\nAfter earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory credits—which it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla beat earnings estimates. There is always debate about what is the “normal” amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.\nThere is also the issue of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrency’s prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. However, Teladoc&#39;s growth prospects make it worth a lot more than its current market cap of under $12 billion, in my view.</p><p>Some might question whether or not Teladoc can win in a post-pandemic world. I think the answer is a resounding yes. Virtual care is both cost-effective for payers and convenient for patients. That&#39;s a compelling value proposition.</p><p>Teladoc also holds multiple competitive advantages over rivals. It offers the broadest array of services in the industry, notably including a chronic disease management platform. The company ranks No. 1 in customer satisfaction. And Teladoc boasts the biggest client base by far, including more than half of the Fortune 500.</p><p>The company could nearly double its covered lives simply by gaining new members within existing clients. It could grow even more by increasing multi-product penetration within current customers. Adding new clients -- which Teladoc continues to do at a robust rate -- is the cherry on top.</p><p>Teladoc estimates its total addressable market stands at $268 billion in the U.S. alone. To put that into context, Wall Street expects the company to generate around $2.6 billion in revenue this year. Unstoppable stock at an unbelievable price? Yep.</p><h2>2. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PYPL\">PayPal</a> Holdings</h2><p><b>PayPal Holdings</b> (NASDAQ:PYPL) shares have fallen more than 60% below their 52-week high. While much of that decline came in the second half of last year, the fintech stock also plunged earlier this month after providing disappointing guidance for 2022.</p><p>It&#39;s important to delve into the details behind the stock&#39;s drop. In particular, PayPal&#39;s lower-than-expected customer account growth for this year isn&#39;t a sign of impending doom. Instead, the company is shifting to a model of growing revenue per user rather than emphasizing expanding the total customer base. That&#39;s a move that investors should applaud because it will drive higher profitability.</p><p>PayPal&#39;s long-term prospects remain exceptionally strong. Its growth drivers include increased e-commerce penetration, buy now, pay later programs, in-store QR code payments, and the Venmo digital wallet. There&#39;s arguably no company in as strong of a position to benefit from the shift to digital payments as PayPal.</p><p>Is the stock really an unbelievable bargain, though? Probably not if you only look at current valuation metrics. However, when you compare PayPal&#39;s market cap of $131 billion against the $110 <i>trillion</i> market opportunity, it&#39;s a different story altogether.</p><h2>3. Sea Limited</h2><p>Like PayPal, <b>Sea Limited</b> (NYSE:SE) has seen its stock price sink more than 60% from peak levels. Nearly all of this decline has come over the past three months.</p><p>Concerns about rising interest rates have hurt many growth stocks, including Sea. But the company also faces a more immediate worry: India is reportedly banning Sea&#39;s top-selling <i>Free Fire</i> mobile game. Although Sea currently generates less than 3% of its gaming revenue in India, the country is potentially a big growth market for the company.</p><p>However, Sea has plenty of other avenues for growth -- both from a geographic and product standpoint. The company continues to enjoy strong momentum in Southeast Asia and Latin America. It offers the broadest array of services in the industry, notably including a chronic disease management platform. The company ranks No. 1 in customer satisfaction. That's a move that investors should applaud because it will drive higher profitability.PayPal's long-term prospects remain exceptionally strong. Or will bearishness take over during a year of rising interest rates and lingering inflation?</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f77cd919bf55f9c7b79f631b0255910\" tg-width=\"1240\" tg-height=\"697\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Figure 1: Apple Park in Cupertino, CA.</span></p><p><b>AAPL: the bull case</b></p><p>As Apple stock climbed viciously between late November and early December, many Wall Street experts piled on in support of “AAPL $3T”. Wedbush’s Dan Ives, for example, has been talking about the market cap milestone since our conversation in Q3 of last year, at least.</p><p>But other analysts have also hopped on the bullish bandwagon recently. Morgan Stanley upped its price target to $200 per share in November, while the JPMorgan research team saw Apple stock heading to $3.5 trillion in market cap over the next 12 months.</p><p>One of the most vocal optimists came from the buy side. Loup’s Gene Munster thought that his previous price target had quickly become stale, and that $250 per share now seemed more reasonable. In his opinion, the multi-year opportunity in the metaverse will gain investor appreciation in the new year, which should reignite momentum that the stock had lost in the last few weeks of 2021.</p><p><b>AAPL: the bear case</b></p><p>Despite the upbeat expectations described above, mostly supported by company-specific factors, the market rolled into 2022 with its guard up. The boogieman of the moment seems to be the Federal Reserve’s anticipated reaction to near-full employment and sticky inflation, which should lead to higher interest rates in the next several months.</p><p>I have recently explained how tighter money supply can spell trouble for stocks that trade for relatively high multiples. While AAPL is no Tesla or Rivian, the stock’s forward P/E of nearly 30 times and only modest earnings growth expectations could be a drag for share price in 2022, as investors look for better deals in value and cyclical stocks.</p><p><b>The Apple Maven’s take</b></p><p>I continue to think that Apple is a great stock to buy and hold for the long term. Under the leadership of a CEO (and former COO) that is driven by operational excellence, the company seems to be in very good hands. Better yet, demand for Apple’s products and services, as well as consumer appreciation for the brand, seem to be at or near an all-time high.</p><p>That said, the setup for the first few weeks or months of 2022 looks challenging to me. Apple stock climbed relentlessly in 2020, and then again last year. Aided by a spike in pandemic-driven demand for tech devices and lavish liquidity in the system, AAPL recorded one of its best three years of returns ever between 2019 and 2021.</p><p>As much as the metaverse and autonomous vehicles can and likely will support the company’s financial results over the next many years, I think that AAPL stock is overdue for a breather. Morgan Stanley upped its price target to $200 per share in November, while the JPMorgan research team saw Apple stock heading to $3.5 trillion in market cap over the next 12 months.One of the most vocal optimists came from the buy side. While AAPL is no Tesla or Rivian, the stock’s forward P/E of nearly 30 times and only modest earnings growth expectations could be a drag for share price in 2022, as investors look for better deals in value and cyclical stocks.The Apple Maven’s takeI continue to think that Apple is a great stock to buy and hold for the long term. Under the leadership of a CEO (and former COO) that is driven by operational excellence, the company seems to be in very good hands. Better yet, demand for Apple’s products and services, as well as consumer appreciation for the brand, seem to be at or near an all-time high.That said, the setup for the first few weeks or months of 2022 looks challenging to me. Apple stock climbed relentlessly in 2020, and then again last year. Aided by a spike in pandemic-driven demand for tech devices and lavish liquidity in the system, AAPL recorded one of its best three years of returns ever between 2019 and 2021.As much as the metaverse and autonomous vehicles can and likely will support the company’s financial results over the next many years, I think that AAPL stock is overdue for a breather. Handling some of those winners may take a bit of patience and time, allowing their overheated stocks to cool down a bit before you take action.</p><p>On that note, let me show you why you should buy <b>Costco Wholesale</b> and <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/LLNW\">Limelight Networks</a></b> on the dips.</p><h2>Costco: An all-time great racing to new heights</h2><p>Warehouse retailer Costco has been crushing the market for years. The difference is even clearer when you include dividend payouts in the calculation. Costco has a history of sharing its excess cash profits with shareholders in the form of special dividends. That history includes a $10 payout per share in 2020 and $7 per share in 2017, on top of a steadily growing quarterly dividend. On that basis, Costco has more than tripled the broader market&#39;s returns over the last decade:</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3826db40e01405ca0286149cfbef55c9\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"449\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>COST Total Return Level data by YCharts</p><p>These price gains were built on a solid foundation of successful business results, of course. Costco&#39;s unique business model of razor-thin margins on the retail goods plus an incredibly lucrative membership program turned out to be a fantastic long-term cash machine. That&#39;s where the generous special dividends come from.</p><p>However, Costco&#39;s investors are getting a bit too excited these days. It&#39;s no problem that the stock trades near its all-time highs, because nudging that barrier is how you build positive returns over the long haul. But Costco&#39;s stock is rising even faster than its cash profits in recent years, which makes the latest highs look less sustainable.</p><p>Costco&#39;s stock is a great buy at nearly any price, but patient investors should hold their horses here. Of course, you can always build your holdings by small amounts; keep an eye out for temporary price drops before adding large sums of new capital.</p><h2>Limelight: A powerful turnaround story</h2><p>Content delivery network veteran Limelight is a different story. This stock isn&#39;t exploring all-time highs today, but bouncing back from a deep plunge in 2021.</p><p>As a shareholder myself, I think it&#39;s nice to see the stock making a comeback. The company is under new management, whose updated business plan is making a difference. At the same time, the stock is running too far, too fast. In 2021, top-line revenue fell 5% while operating costs increased. Net losses nearly tripled year over year and free cash flow was printed in a deep shade of red. Limelight shares are trading at 440 times forward earnings estimates and the company has no profits of any kind to show from the last four quarters.</p><p>Limelight is in the process of acquiring the Edgecast content delivery business from Yahoo! in a $300 million deal that promises to boost Limelight&#39;s edge computing and security solutions. But that stock-swap buyout will also dilute existing holdings by increasing the share count by roughly 40%, and I can&#39;t recommend buying into this stock right now.</p><p>Again, I am a shareholder and I do believe in Limelight in the long run. This just isn&#39;t a good time to get into the stock. Handling some of those winners may take a bit of patience and time, allowing their overheated stocks to cool down a bit before you take action.On that note, let me show you why you should buy Costco Wholesale and Limelight Networks on the dips.Costco: An all-time great racing to new heightsWarehouse retailer Costco has been crushing the market for years. The difference is even clearer when you include dividend payouts in the calculation. Costco has a history of sharing its excess cash profits with shareholders in the form of special dividends. That history includes a $10 payout per share in 2020 and $7 per share in 2017, on top of a steadily growing quarterly dividend. On that basis, Costco has more than tripled the broader market's returns over the last decade:COST Total Return Level data by YChartsThese price gains were built on a solid foundation of successful business results, of course. Costco's unique business model of razor-thin margins on the retail goods plus an incredibly lucrative membership program turned out to be a fantastic long-term cash machine. That's where the generous special dividends come from.However, Costco's investors are getting a bit too excited these days. It's no problem that the stock trades near its all-time highs, because nudging that barrier is how you build positive returns over the long haul. But Costco's stock is rising even faster than its cash profits in recent years, which makes the latest highs look less sustainable.Costco's stock is a great buy at nearly any price, but patient investors should hold their horses here. Of course, you can always build your holdings by small amounts; keep an eye out for temporary price drops before adding large sums of new capital.Limelight: A powerful turnaround storyContent delivery network veteran Limelight is a different story. This stock isn't exploring all-time highs today, but bouncing back from a deep plunge in 2021.As a shareholder myself, I think it's nice to see the stock making a comeback. The company is under new management, whose updated business plan is making a difference. At the same time, the stock is running too far, too fast. Prices have more than doubled from last summer's lows:LLNW data by YChartsThat would be fine if the business were firing on all cylinders, but that's not the case so far. In 2021, top-line revenue fell 5% while operating costs increased. Net losses nearly tripled year over year and free cash flow was printed in a deep shade of red. Limelight shares are trading at 440 times forward earnings estimates and the company has no profits of any kind to show from the last four quarters.Limelight is in the process of acquiring the Edgecast content delivery business from Yahoo! in a $300 million deal that promises to boost Limelight's edge computing and security solutions. But that stock-swap buyout will also dilute existing holdings by increasing the share count by roughly 40%, and I can't recommend buying into this stock right now.Again, I am a shareholder and I do believe in Limelight in the long run. This just isn't a good time to get into the stock.
