Having decided not to bring a movie studio under the fold, Ives thinks Apple is keen to add more live sports to its roster of services. The company has already bought the rights for MLB Friday Night baseball package games for the next few years and along with Amazon, Ives says it is “widely viewed” in the industry the pair were in the final bidding for the NFL Sunday Ticket. This should be a multi-billion-dollar annual deal ($2.5 billion+) and a “landmark” for the company, with the package seen as the “crown jewel” for streaming live sports content. Should Apple win it, it will further strengthen its position in the streaming arms race,” one which has already been boosted by the Oscar win of CODA and success of other recent offerings (Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Severance). To this end, Ives reiterated an Outperform (i.e., Buy) rating backed by a $200 price target. The implication for investors? Upside of 32%.Turning now to the rest of the Street, where the average target clocks in at $186.45 and factors in 12-month gains of 28%. Consequently, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite have backtracked 15% and 24% year to date, respectively, with no end to the negativism in sight.

Even big tech has struggled, with premier companies Netflix and Meta Platforms posting weaker-than-anticipated financial reports in recent quarters. The panic has sent investors swarming to value stocks and safer assets for protection, leaving the technology sector drowning in the red. But as long-term investors, this doesn't mean that we should completely ignore tech stocks for the time being.

In fact, there are several companies that continue to deliver strong financial results in spite of the challenges our current economy presents. One of those companies, Apple, is a world-beater that can provide investors with much-needed security in today's market environment. And since it's down almost 20% year to date, the technology juggernaut grants investors a handsome valuation at present levels.

A resilient business

In the past 12 quarters, Apple has beaten earnings estimates each time, and the company has only fallen short of Wall Street's revenue forecasts once. In the second quarter of 2022, the tech leader increased both total sales and earnings per share by 9% year over year, up to $97.3 billion and $1.52, respectively. While its product category -- which includes the iPhone, iPad, and Mac -- only grew a modest 7%, the company's services segment surged 17% to $19.8 billion.

For the full fiscal year 2022, analysts are forecasting Apple's top line to improve 8% to $394.2 billion and its earnings per share to increase 10% to $6.15. Investors should like where the iPhone maker is positioned today. Not only does its world-class core business offer stability on top of its persistent growth, but the company's services segment enjoys a long runway for expansion in the years ahead.

Fortunately for Apple and its shareholders, the company's elite balance sheet and cash generation will comfortably facilitate growth for the tech giant in the future. The company has $28.1 billion in cash on its balance sheet, and it continues to generate funds at a red-hot pace. In the past 12 months, Apple has produced $105.8 billion in free cash flow (FCF), and its three-year FCF compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is 13%. The company's robust balance sheet and consistent cash generation provide financial flexibility to increase its dividends, buy back shares, and grow its business in the years to follow.

A normalized valuation

The recent stock price pullback year to date has made Apple stock a very tempting buy. The stock carries a price-to-earnings multiple of 24 today, representing its lowest trading level since the early summer of 2020.

AAPL PE Ratio data by YCharts

The tech company's current earnings multiple is also largely in line with its five-year historical average of 23. Consequently, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite have backtracked 15% and 24% year to date, respectively, with no end to the negativism in sight.Even big tech has struggled, with premier companies Netflix and Meta Platforms posting weaker-than-anticipated financial reports in recent quarters. The panic has sent investors swarming to value stocks and safer assets for protection, leaving the technology sector drowning in the red. But as long-term investors, this doesn't mean that we should completely ignore tech stocks for the time being.Image source: Getty Images. In fact, there are several companies that continue to deliver strong financial results in spite of the challenges our current economy presents. One of those companies, Apple, is a world-beater that can provide investors with much-needed security in today's market environment. And since it's down almost 20% year to date, the technology juggernaut grants investors a handsome valuation at present levels.A resilient businessIn the past 12 quarters, Apple has beaten earnings estimates each time, and the company has only fallen short of Wall Street's revenue forecasts once. Not only does its world-class core business offer stability on top of its persistent growth, but the company's services segment enjoys a long runway for expansion in the years ahead.Fortunately for Apple and its shareholders, the company's elite balance sheet and cash generation will comfortably facilitate growth for the tech giant in the future. The company has $28.1 billion in cash on its balance sheet, and it continues to generate funds at a red-hot pace. In the past 12 months, Apple has produced $105.8 billion in free cash flow (FCF), and its three-year FCF compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is 13%. The company's robust balance sheet and consistent cash generation provide financial flexibility to increase its dividends, buy back shares, and grow its business in the years to follow.A normalized valuationThe recent stock price pullback year to date has made Apple stock a very tempting buy. The stock carries a price-to-earnings multiple of 24 today, representing its lowest trading level since the early summer of 2020.AAPL PE Ratio data by YChartsThe tech company's current earnings multiple is also largely in line with its five-year historical average of 23. But given that Apple has been able to maintain solid growth in recent quarters -- especially compared to the rest of big tech -- investors should be thrilled about buying the stock at existing levels.Apple is a good play on the turbulent stock market todayApple is a wise investment today -- the world-leading technology company continues to expand its business at a steady rate in an economy where many of its peers are suffering from growing pains. As of June 3, the stock is now up over 140% so far in 2022 alone. Why the big run-up? It certainly helped that energy prices remained high during the month, as did a solid first-quarter earnings report Occidental released on May 10.

The biggest reason for another leg higher, though, could likely be attributed to news that a famous investor by the name of Warren Buffett increased his stake in the oil company.

So what

In a series of filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in early May, it was revealed that Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) (BRK.B) has once again boosted its stake in Occidental Petroleum stock. That looks like a real possibility and one Wall Street analyst is already convinced that is the case. But along with believing a global recession is around the corner, Northland’s Gus Richard also thinks that, in general, semiconductor companies' estimates are “too high.” Now the 5-star analyst has been making some tweaks to his model for one of the segment’s giants. On the one hand, to account for a global recession, Richard has cut $2.8 billion out of his CY23 revenue forecast for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). There are lowered estimates for PC CPUs, GPUs, Xilinx, and gaming consoles. Given AMD in servers CPUs is at the “top of the stack,” Richard believes AMD will see “little impact” on this business in CY23, and server revenue has been left as is.Richard now sees PC CPU revenue falling by 6% next year, while GPU revenue will drop by 7%. Put together, this will see CPU and GPU revenue falling by $675 million year-over-year. On an “apples-to-apples comparison,” Richard expects Xilinx revenue to drop by 6% although Xilinx was acquired in the middle of Q1 and therefore Richard anticipates AMD's Xilinx revenue will rise by $250 million in 2023. Game console revenue is anticipated to climb 8% higher in CY23 – or by $400 million - but there is still a $740 million trim to the prior estimate. What does it all mean for investors? Richard slightly lowered his price target for AMD stock from $97 to $95, suggesting shares have room for 29% growth in the year ahead. The interesting part is that along with the slashing of prior estimates, there is also a rating upgrade - from Market Perform (i.e. Neutral) to Outperform (i.e. Buy). And there’s a simple explanation why.Since peaking last November, AMD has seen “significant multiple compression” with the shares down 54% since. “Shares are trading at 16x our CY23 estimates versus 32x our consensus CY23 estimate at the beginning of CY22,” Richard explained. “We believe macro headwinds are now in our estimates and the share price.” According to the rest of the Street, Richard's objective is a conservative one; at $133.38, the average target suggests shares will soar 81% in the year ahead. All in all, the stock has a Moderate Buy consensus rating, based on 16 Buys vs. 9 Holds.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":65,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9042553793,"gmtCreate":1656504137512,"gmtModify":1676535841547,"author":{"id":"3577132546371659","authorId":"3577132546371659","name":"Hariharimiao","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/f042dad307a915f9db9eefb107457d45","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577132546371659","authorIdStr":"3577132546371659"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Avoid this asset at this moment ","listText":"Avoid this asset at this moment ","text":"Avoid this asset at this moment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9042553793","repostId":"1175079535","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1175079535","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1656501849,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1175079535?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-06-29 19:24","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Crypto Hedge Fund Three Arrows Capital Plunges into Liquidation","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1175079535","media":"sky news","summary":"Three Arrows Capital, a cryptocurrency-focused hedge fund, has plunged into liquidation, deepening t","content":"

Three Arrows Capital, a cryptocurrency-focused hedge fund, has plunged into liquidation, deepening the crisis engulfing the global digital assets sector.

Sky News has learnt that partners from Teneo in the British Virgin Islands has been lined up to handle the insolvency of the Singapore-based firm, which was set up in 2012 by Su Zhu and Kyle Davies.

Cryptocurrency insiders said on Wednesday that the liquidation would be a significant moment in the current unravelling of the cryptocurrency sector, which has grown at breakneck speed in recent years.

It was unclear what the immediate financial implications would be for Three Arrows' creditors.

The firm's demise is likely to raise further questions, however, about the regulatory oversight to which cryptocurrencies and other digital assets are subject in the world's major financial centres.

The crisis at Three Arrows Capital was highlighted earlier this month when Voyager Digital, a crypto broker, said it was considering issuing a default notice in relation to a loan worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

The crypto landscape is experiencing tumultuous change amid a collapse in valuations of assets such as stablecoins - digital currencies pegged to the value of assets such as the US dollar or gold.

Mr Davies told the Wall Street Journal in an interview this month that it was "committed to working things out and finding an equitable solution for all our constituents".

He added that Three Arrows was exploring options such as the sale of assets or a rescue by another firm.

It was unclear whether such conversations were continuing on Wednesday, or whether some form of sale of Three Arrows' assets by its liquidators remained possible.

A person familiar with the situation confirmed that a court order in the BVI had been made on June 27 to liquidate Three Arrows.

Three Arrows Capital did not respond to an emailed request for comment, while Teneo was contacted for comment.

","source":"lsy1619191032898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The highly anticipated event sent TSLA stock revving up as investors prepared for the electric vehicle(EV) company’s expansion into Europe. It didn’t take long for the factory to begin production, either. However, CEO Elon Musk is now already looking to expand the facility further. Specifically, Tesla is moving to acquire a large plot of land directly adjacent to the facility. That has both investors and consumers watching closely.

Despite this positive potential catalyst, TSLA stock has been declining today. Shares began the day by sliding into the red and have made no progress since. As of this writing, TSLA is down more than 8%. Although its pattern does hint at a rebound, the stock will likely end the day in the red.

That said, investors should note that there are several other factors outside of the company pushing TSLA stock down. For one, the Federal Reserve announced another interest rate hike yesterday. This has triggered a massive market selloff, sending many large cap stocks plunging across the board. Bearish energy is also surrounding Big Tech; names like Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) and Alphabet(NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL) are dropping this week.

With the Berlin expansion in motion, however, TSLA stock should pull back into the green soon enough.

What’s Happening with TSLA Stock?

To start, let’s take a closer look at Tesla’s pending land acquisition. Electrek obtained a statement that details the following:

“The Tesla company is planning to massively expand its property in Grünheide (Oder-Spree) […] Accordingly, the company intends to purchase approximately 100 hectares of land located directly east of the Tesla site between the RE1 railway line and the L23 and L38 state roads.”

At present, Gigafactory Berlin is located on 300 acres owned by Tesla. According to the report, however, Tesla plans to purchase the additional land for a train station and further storage areas. As of now, the plan is for a railway to transport supplies into the factory while also moving completed Tesla EVs out. While this has yet to be finalized and no official price for the land has been set, Electrek speculates that the purchase will amount to around 13 million euros (roughly $13.7 million).

While details around this deal are still emerging, the purchase is unlikely to fall through. It also isn’t hard to see why the Berlin expansion makes sense for Tesla; the proposed railway would certainly help the company streamline production and churn out EVs at the new German facility. Throughout Europe, demand is only increasing— and Tesla is working hard to secure its market share.

What It Means

This Berlin deal isn’t the only recent expansion plan from Tesla. Specifically, the company has also confirmed plans to expand its Shanghai-based Gigafactory, ramping up production to 450,000 EVs per year. Tesla is clearly focused on shaping the Berlin facility in the same way, scaling production and upping efficiency. Once the deal is confirmed, TSLA stock should rise as the expansion boosts production.

All this is in keeping with Tesla’s mission of maintaining its spot at the top of the EV sector. It’s not just the Shanghai plant that’s “back with a vengeance,” as Musk promised. It’s the entire company.

","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
TSLA Stock Is Down Today But Giga Berlin Growth Means Gains Are Ahead
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTSLA Stock Is Down Today But Giga Berlin Growth Means Gains Are Ahead\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-05-06 08:24 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Recently, Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA) celebrated the opening of Gigafactory Berlin. This isn't that surprising, considering the company's consistent profits and generous shareholder returns of dividends and share repurchases. Further, the company's business model is steadily shifting towards a greater emphasis on service revenues, which have higher profit margins and are more recurring in nature than product revenues. In the current market, investors are rewarding AAPL for both the consistency as well as the existence of positive net income. Investors are also favoring the mature capital allocation strategy of paying out dividends and buying back shares. The company's willing use of leverage is another positive as that would help increase shareholder returns. Assuming a 4% earnings yield, around 8% annual growth, and stable multiples, investors may expect around 12% annual returns for the stock. If the stock can continue to show the same defensive characteristics that it has shown in recent years, then that kind of return profile may appear attractive for those looking for a lower risk name with market-beating potential.

Is AAPL Stock A Buy, Sell, or Hold?

My personal view is unfortunately less bullish. While AAPL has generated stellar returns with defensive characteristics in the past, there is no guarantee of that continuing in the future. I note that AAPL curiously spends far lower on R&D than mega-cap peers. For reference, AAPL spent $21.9 billion or 14.3% of gross profits on R&D in 2021, versus $26 billion or 28.9% at Alphabet (GOOGL) and $24.7 billion or 25.9% at Meta Platforms (FB). I frequently see AAPL investors touting the potential for upside surprise from innovation, but that optimism looks misplaced when compared against the likes of GOOGL and FB. When combined with the fact that the company continues to aggressively repurchase stock even at these premium valuations, one would be better off making the argument that this is a company more focused on generating present-day profits than maximizing growth over the long term. The stock could nonetheless still beat the market, even as growth is expected to slow gradually over the next decade. It wouldn't be unheard of for the stock to sustain a premium multiple even as growth slows to the low single-digits - as referenced above, many consumer staple stocks trade at those kinds of valuations. Yet at the same time, my view is that it is more likely for the stock to experience some multiple compression as growth slows - especially considering that its product revenues are still rather cyclical in nature. Perhaps if the company can show greater exposure to services revenues then it would be more insulated from that kind of risk, but services gross profits still make up only 31% of gross profits (as of 2021). By the time services gross profits make up a large enough percentage of the overall business, services growth would have likely already slowed down as well. Based on consensus estimates, the stock trades at 13x 2031 earnings. I could see the stock trading at 15x earnings by then - that would represent a 2.5x price to earnings growth ratio ('PEG ratio') which would still be quite rich. That would place return potential from capital appreciation at only 15.4% in total or 1.44% annualized over the next 10 years. Throw in the 0.58% dividend yield and investors might get 2% annualized returns. Sure, some may argue that 15x 2031 earnings is too pessimistic, but with a 6% projected growth rate by then, many could also argue that it is even too optimistic. Clearly, forward returns are highly reliant on the stock sustaining an elevated PEG ratio - this is the kind of investment strategy that feels inherently unsustainable. Luckily, it isn't so hard to avoid buying AAPL here because there are so many more compelling alternatives available. While one could find deep value amongst high-growth tech, even established names like FB and GOOGL are both trading at far lower multiples in spite of stronger forward growth rates. I rate AAPL a hold because of both the high potential of poor forward returns as well as the better alternatives available in tech today.

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is Apple A Good Defensive Stock? This isn't that surprising, considering the company's consistent profits and generous shareholder returns of dividends and share repurchases. Further, the company's business model is steadily shifting towards a greater emphasis on service revenues, which have higher profit margins and are more recurring in nature than product revenues.
