D05)</h2><p>DBS Group needs no introduction, being Singapore’s largest bank by market capitalisation.</p><p>The S$86.5 billion financial institution reported a sparkling set of earnings for 2022, with its net profit touching a new record high of S$8.2 billion.</p><p>In tandem with the strong numbers, the lender has upped its quarterly dividend from S$0.36 to S$0.42 and also announced a special dividend of S$0.50.</p><p>The total dividend of S$0.92 will be paid out on 21 April.</p><p>The bank does not expect interest rates to decline this year as inflation remains high.</p><p>These higher rates will continue to boost DBS’ net interest margin and net interest income.</p><p>The group is maintaining its guidance for mid-single-digit loan growth along with double-digit fee income growth as China’s reopening will help to benefit the region’s economies.</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CVL.AU\">Civmec</a> Ltd (SGX: P9D)</h2><p>Civmec is an integrated construction and engineering service provider to the energy, resources, infrastructure, and marine cum defence sectors.</p><p>The group provides a range of services including heavy engineering, shipbuilding, site civil works, and maintenance.</p><p>Civmec reported an encouraging set of earnings for its fiscal 2023’s first half (1H FY2023) ending 31 December 2022.</p><p>Revenue rose 7.6% year on year to A$418.9 million with net profit jumping 25.1% year on year to A$28.3 million.</p><p>The group also managed to reduce its borrowings from A$74 million to A$50 million in the current period.</p><p>Its cash generated from operations catapulted from just A$3 million in 1H FY2022 to A$84 million in 1H FY2023.</p><p>The engineering group doubled its interim dividend from A$0.01 to A$0.02 and it will be paid out on 14 April 2023.</p><p>As of 31 December 2022, Civmec boasted an order book of A$1.2 billion, up 13% from the A$1 billion in the same period last year.</p><p>Last week, the group announced that it had secured another A$100 million of new contracts for clients in the resources sector.</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/01821\">ESR</a>-Logos REIT (SGX: J91U)</h2><p>ESR-Logos REIT owns a portfolio of 82 industrial properties across Singapore, Australia, and Japan with total assets of S$5.7 billion as of 31 December 2022.</p><p>In February, the REIT announced an equity fundraising exercise to raise a total of S$300 million via a private placement cum preferential offering of units.</p><p>The private placement was well-received, being three times over-subscribed, and new units were issued at S$0.33.</p><p>The preferential offer saw units being issued at S$0.325, a discount of S$0.005 to the private placement issue price.</p><p>As a result of this placement, ESR-Logos REIT announced an advanced distribution of S$0.00448 to be paid out on 14 April 2023.</p><p>The REIT manager has identified up to S$450 million of non-core assets to be divested over the next 12 months as part of its capital recycling initiative.</p><p>This fundraising will also greatly reduce the REIT’s gearing from 41.8% to 32.3%, allowing the manager to tap on debt funding for future acquisitions.</p><h2>IHH Healthcare (SGX: Q0F)</h2><p>IHH is an integrated healthcare group that offers patients a full and comprehensive range of medical services ranging from primary to quaternary as well as diagnostics, imaging, and rehabilitation.</p><p>The group employs 65,000 people and conducts its business through well-known brands such as Mount Elizabeth, Acibadem, Gleneagles, Parkway, and Fortis.</p><p>The group reported a mixed set of earnings for 2022.</p><p>Revenue crept up 5% year on year to RM 18 billion but net operating income fell by 13% year on year to RM 1.4 billion.</p><p>Net profit declined by 17% year on year to RM 1.5 billion.</p><p>Despite the weaker profit, IHH declared a final dividend of S$0.0216 for its Singapore shareholders, up 17% year on year.</p><p>This dividend will be paid on 28 April.</p><p>The group expects inpatient revenue to increase in 2023 as more patients stream back into hospitals.</p><p>Its asset in Singapore, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, is also undergoing a major refurbishment since January this year to meet Singapore’s growing healthcare needs.</p><p>IHH also intends to develop its laboratory business into a platform that can provide end-to-end services With supply chain bottlenecks easing, automakers across-the-board are increasing production, even as demand is at the risk of cooling, because of the overall economic slowdown. This news has placed pressure on automotive stocks, electric and non-electric alike.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">But while it may seem like the market is overreacting to this news, I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion. Rivian, despite perceptions, isn’t immune to demand headwinds that may be emerging. Atop other issues that have yet to resolve, there’s now something else working out of the company’s favor.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">RIVN Stock: A New Challenge to the Bull Case</h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">As clear from management’s current guidance, the sell-side community’s forecasts, along with the sharp decline in Rivian’s stock price since its public debut, few expect this electric vehicle upstart to live up to initial expectations.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">However, in contrast to other early-stage EV names, there is greater confidence that Rivian will live up to current, scaled back expectations. The “run-up thesis” is a great way to describe this view, and this bull case goes as follows.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Despite quarterly production figures that suggest otherwise, management’s guidance still calls for the company to produce 50,000 vehicles this year.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">With a reported backlog of 114,000 vehicles, once said production ramp-up occurs, Rivian presumably will have plenty of demand to sell into. Many RIVN stock bulls may subscribe to this thesis, but before you run out and buy the stock, keep in mind the flaws to this argument. For starters, the aforementioned backlog figure was last updated in November.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Rivian no longer provides net reservation numbers. It is unclear whether the company is experiencing reservation declines, as seen with <strong>Lucid Group</strong> (NASDAQ: <strong><u>LCID</u></strong>). Even if the company’s backlog has not gone down, a vehicle glut could limit future reservation growth.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">A More Pertinent Issue in the Near-Term</h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Demand issues are something that could affect Rivian in the near-term, in the long-term, or possibly both. Admittedly, until the ramp-up happens, it’s unclear how much deliveries will climb up with it.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">But while the demand issue may be less of an immediate problem, remember that there are other existing issues with RIVN. One in particular could resume affecting its price performance. Said issue has to do with capitalization.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Sure, with $11.6 billion in cash and cash equivalents as of Dec. 31, 2022, Rivian is not nearly as cash-starved as many other EV upstarts. The company is guiding for losses (on an EBITDA basis) similar to what it reported in 2022. With this, expect there to be renewed pressure for the company to raise more cash through the sale of new stock.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Given that selling new shares will be dilutive to existing RIVN investors, future capital raises, much like the last capital raise in March, will probably drive shares down to lower prices. Although a big jump in production/deliveries could help to mitigate, or perhaps counter, this major negative, the aforementioned demand headwinds call this into question.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">The Takeaway</h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">UBS’s bearish take on the automotive space underscores how RIVN is not a strong opportunity in the current market environment.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Once considered a disruptor of what is the profit center of the “Detroit Three” (large vehicles like trucks and vans), a lackluster track record for turning projections into actual performance has left the company struggling to stay ahead of the incumbents. They are quickly gaining ground in the EV space.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Meanwhile, with all of this delaying a move to profitability, there’s a growing chance that future upside will be curbed by heavy shareholder dilution.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">As the cherry on top of a mountain of existing issues, a vehicle glut could take the situation with RIVN stock from bad to worse. With supply chain bottlenecks easing, automakers across-the-board are increasing production, even as demand is at the risk of cooling, because of the overall economic slowdown. This news has placed pressure on automotive stocks, electric and non-electric alike.But while it may seem like the market is overreacting to this news, I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion. Rivian, despite perceptions, isn’t immune to demand headwinds that may be emerging. Atop other issues that have yet to resolve, there’s now something else working out of the company’s favor.RIVN Stock: A New Challenge to the Bull CaseAs clear from management’s current guidance, the sell-side community’s forecasts, along with the sharp decline in Rivian’s stock price since its public debut, few expect this electric vehicle upstart to live up to initial expectations.However, in contrast to other early-stage EV names, there is greater confidence that Rivian will live up to current, scaled back expectations. The “run-up thesis” is a great way to describe this view, and this bull case goes as follows.Despite quarterly production figures that suggest otherwise, management’s guidance still calls for the company to produce 50,000 vehicles this year.With a reported backlog of 114,000 vehicles, once said production ramp-up occurs, Rivian presumably will have plenty of demand to sell into. Many RIVN stock bulls may subscribe to this thesis, but before you run out and buy the stock, keep in mind the flaws to this argument. For starters, the aforementioned backlog figure was last updated in November.Rivian no longer provides net reservation numbers. It is unclear whether the company is experiencing reservation declines, as seen with Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID). Even if the company’s backlog has not gone down, a vehicle glut could limit future reservation growth.A More Pertinent Issue in the Near-TermDemand issues are something that could affect Rivian in the near-term, in the long-term, or possibly both. Admittedly, until the ramp-up happens, it’s unclear how much deliveries will climb up with it.But while the demand issue may be less of an immediate problem, remember that there are other existing issues with RIVN. One in particular could resume affecting its price performance. Said issue has to do with capitalization.Sure, with $11.6 billion in cash and cash equivalents as of Dec. 31, 2022, Rivian is not nearly as cash-starved as many other EV upstarts. The company is guiding for losses (on an EBITDA basis) similar to what it reported in 2022. With this, expect there to be renewed pressure for the company to raise more cash through the sale of new stock.Given that selling new shares will be dilutive to existing RIVN investors, future capital raises, much like the last capital raise in March, will probably drive shares down to lower prices. Although a big jump in production/deliveries could help to mitigate, or perhaps counter, this major negative, the aforementioned demand headwinds call this into question.The TakeawayUBS’s bearish take on the automotive space underscores how RIVN is not a strong opportunity in the current market environment.Once considered a disruptor of what is the profit center of the “Detroit Three” (large vehicles like trucks and vans), a lackluster track record for turning projections into actual performance has left the company struggling to stay ahead of the incumbents. They are quickly gaining ground in the EV space.Meanwhile, with all of this delaying a move to profitability, there’s a growing chance that future upside will be curbed by heavy shareholder dilution.As the cherry on top of a mountain of existing issues, a vehicle glut could take the situation with RIVN stock from bad to worse. Here&#39;s why.</p><h2>A banking crisis overshadows SoFi&#39;s numerous positives</h2><p><strong>Justin Pope</strong> <strong>(SoFi Technologies):</strong> It&#39;s been tough living as a digital bank for <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SOFI\">SoFi Technologies</a>. The company&#39;s been plagued by a student loan freeze for several years, and the recent banking crisis has only shaken investor confidence in smaller lenders. Shares are trading near the low end of their 52-week range, down 77% from their high.</p><p>But the bank&#39;s on firmer ground than its share price might indicate. First, SoFi is well capitalized -- well above the minimum financial ratios regulators mandate, and its depositor base of 5.2 million members is more diversified than a bank like Silicon Valley Bank. Second, there&#39;s a student loan freeze in effect, which has hurt SoFi&#39;s loan refinancing business, which was huge before the pandemic.</p><p>However, it hasn&#39;t stopped SoFi from marching toward profitability. The company posted non-GAAP (adjusted) earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of $143 million in 2022 and is guiding for $260 million to $280 million for 2023. Importantly, management expects net income under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to turn positive by the end of the year.</p><p>Between a banking crisis and a student loan freeze, it&#39;s hard to imagine what else could go wrong for SoFi. That&#39;s why the stock could rebound when the smoke clears. The student loan freeze seems on course to end later this year, and it looks like the government will do what&#39;s needed to ensure confidence in the banking system.</p><p>Then, investors might better appreciate SoFi&#39;s rapidly growing user base, looming profitability, and strong balance sheet. CEO Anthony Noto reiterated his confidence, buying roughly $1.2 million in stock last month. You can&#39;t predict when, but SoFi&#39;s stock could spring higher at the first sign of positive news.</p><h2>The tech conglomerate that may soon seem &#39;unlimited&#39;</h2><p><strong>Will Healy</strong> <strong>(Sea Limited): </strong>Admittedly, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SE\">Sea Limited</a> stock may appear to have moved too far too fast. Since falling to a low of just under $41 per share last November, it has more than doubled.</p><p>Still, in other ways, Sea Limited appears far from done. The tech conglomerate, which includes the e-commerce business Shopee and fintech segment Sea Money, has drawn investor interest amid a push to cut costs and turn profitable.</p><p>Sea Money has continued to grow at a triple-digit clip, though it only makes up around 10% of the company&#39;s revenue. Earlier in the year, Shopee reversed most of its expansion plans outside its core Southeast Asian market. But the strategy seems to have worked as e-commerce revenue of $7.3 billion rose 42% in 2022 compared with the prior year.</p><p>Additionally, the factor that could make Sea Limited&#39;s stock fully turn around is the reversal of declining revenue in its gaming segment, Garena. Garena&#39;s <em>Free Fire </em>was the world&#39;s most downloaded mobile game from 2019 to 2021, but its popularity has waned amid a decline in the gaming industry. Consequently, Garena&#39;s revenue dropped 9% in 2022 to $3.9 billion.</p><p>However, Newzoo forecasts player numbers will grow from 3.2 billion in 2022 to 3.5 billion by 2025. Such growth should help reverse declines in the gaming industry. That could accelerate Sea Limited&#39;s revenue growth, which in 2022 surged 25% to $12.4 billion.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7498cb1aa3bf16d1bb26dcaf39931135\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"433\"/></p><p>SE PS Ratio data by YCharts</p><p>Moreover, despite the recent surge in the stock price, investors should remember that Sea Limited sells at a discount of more than 70% from its all-time high in the fall of 2021. As a result, it trades at a P/S ratio of 4. That is just above all-time lows and well below the record sales multiple of just above 30 in 2021.</p><p>Such a valuation could induce investors to brave the waters. And given the entertainment stock&#39;s potential when all three segments are in a growth mode, the new bull market in Sea Limited stock may have only just begun.</p><h2>Adobe&#39;s stock is still a bargain</h2><p><strong>Jake Lerch (Adobe):</strong> Shares of software giant <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ADBE\">Adobe</a> have been on a wild ride over the last year and a half. The stock is still more than 44% off its all-time high of $688.37, even after rallying 35% over the last six months.</p><p>Yet, to my eye, Adobe has room to run higher from here -- <em>much higher</em>. Why? Two reasons.</p><p>First, Wall Street has been wrong. Many analysts have expected a pullback in demand for Adobe&#39;s products that just hasn&#39;t materialized. The company has beaten earnings expectations in four straight quarters. Adobe&#39;s rockstar lineup of products, including Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/EXP.AU\">Experience</a> Cloud, continue to draw in new customers and help retain existing ones.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a973d5cfbfe76f197b5f5eae7c9931b1\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"449\"/></p><p>ADBE data by YCharts</p><p>Second, Adobe&#39;s valuation still looks attractive. Here's why.A banking crisis overshadows SoFi's numerous positivesJustin Pope (SoFi Technologies): It's been tough living as a digital bank for SoFi Technologies. The company's been plagued by a student loan freeze for several years, and the recent banking crisis has only shaken investor confidence in smaller lenders. Shares are trading near the low end of their 52-week range, down 77% from their high.But the bank's on firmer ground than its share price might indicate. First, SoFi is well capitalized -- well above the minimum financial ratios regulators mandate, and its depositor base of 5.2 million members is more diversified than a bank like Silicon Valley Bank. Second, there's a student loan freeze in effect, which has hurt SoFi's loan refinancing business, which was huge before the pandemic.However, it hasn't stopped SoFi from marching toward profitability. CEO Anthony Noto reiterated his confidence, buying roughly $1.2 million in stock last month. You can't predict when, but SoFi's stock could spring higher at the first sign of positive news.The tech conglomerate that may soon seem 'unlimited'Will Healy (Sea Limited): Admittedly, Sea Limited stock may appear to have moved too far too fast. Since falling to a low of just under $41 per share last November, it has more than doubled.Still, in other ways, Sea Limited appears far from done. The tech conglomerate, which includes the e-commerce business Shopee and fintech segment Sea Money, has drawn investor interest amid a push to cut costs and turn profitable.Sea Money has continued to grow at a triple-digit clip, though it only makes up around 10% of the company's revenue. Earlier in the year, Shopee reversed most of its expansion plans outside its core Southeast Asian market. But the strategy seems to have worked as e-commerce revenue of $7.3 billion rose 42% in 2022 compared with the prior year.Additionally, the factor that could make Sea Limited's stock fully turn around is the reversal of declining revenue in its gaming segment, Garena. Garena's Free Fire was the world's most downloaded mobile game from 2019 to 2021, but its popularity has waned amid a decline in the gaming industry. Consequently, Garena's revenue dropped 9% in 2022 to $3.9 billion.However, Newzoo forecasts player numbers will grow from 3.2 billion in 2022 to 3.5 billion by 2025. Both ETFs carry over $100 million in assets under management.</p><p>The Ark Invest CEO did not provide a concrete reason for her departure, although it was announced that Will Scherer would take over as PM for the two ETFs. Scherer joined the firm in 2014 and most recently served as a trading manager.</p><p>The news has investors speculating that the 66-year old Wood is preparing her succession plans. Earlier in June, she appointed Sam Korus and Nicholas Grous as associate PMs. Up until then, Wood was Ark’s only PM. Still, it appears that loyal fans aren’t ready to part ways with the outspoken investor just yet.</p><p>With that in mind, let’s take a look at the top five stocks that Wood purchased this week.</p><p>The Top 5 Stocks Cathie Wood Is Buying This Week</p><p>1. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/VLD\">Velo3D </a></p><p>Velo3D (NYSE:VLD) has an ambitious goal of becoming the largest metal additive manufacturing company by as early as the end of this year. The 3D metals printing company announced last week that it had sold seven of its Sapphire printers to Kevton Technologies. This marked one of the largest sales to a contract manufacturer since the company’s inception. The first two printers are expected to begin work during Q1 of next year.</p><p>Velo3D has also experienced fast-paced growth, with revenue increasing by 15x in the past six quarters. In the most recent quarter, revenue tallied in at $19.6 million, up 60% year-over-year (YOY). Further dilution or equity raises in the near term seems unlikely, as the company had $142 million of cash on hand as of June 30.</p><p>Between September 19 and September 23, the ARK Space Exploration &amp; Innovation (BATS:ARKX) added 99,616 shares of VLD stock. After the purchase, ETF owns a total of 11.1 million shares.</p><p>2. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TSP\">TuSimple </a></p><p>TuSimple (NASDAQ:TSP) seeks to develop safe and efficient autonomous driving (AD) technology for trucks. However, shares of TSP stock have been hampered by a class-action lawsuit relating to an AD driving accident earlier this year.</p><p>In April, The Wall Street Journal revealed that a truck with TSP AD technology had crashed on the highway into a cement barrier. At the time, TuSimple attributed the accident to “human error,” while the WSJ claimed that the accident was due to faulty technology. Afterwards, a class-action lawsuit was filed against the company, citing that it overstated its commitment to safety and rushed to bring its technology to the market. TSP shareholders have until Oct. 31 to join the lawsuit.</p><p>This week, the ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEARCA:ARKK) acquired 241,626 shares of TSP stock. In the month of September, the ETF has purchased a total of 764,934 shares.</p><p>3. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ADBE\">Adobe </a></p><p>Shares of Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) have fallen by about 30% in the past month after the software company announced that it would acquire Figma for a whopping $20 billion in cash and stock. Figma is a competitor to Adobe’s XD program and is a collaborative design platform. After the announcement, shares of ADBE fell by 17%, marking the largest decline since 2010.</p><p>Figma was last valued at $10 billion in a 2021 funding round. However, shares of ADBE fell because investors believed that Adobe was paying way too much for Figma. This year, Figma is expected to generate more than $400 million in annual recurring revenue. Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF</h2><p>Just as the name suggests, the <b>Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF</b> holds stocks of companies with a history of dividend growth. Namely, it&#39;s meant to mirror the <b>S&amp;P U.S. Dividend Growers Index</b>. It consists of the 290 highest-yielding names -- roughly 25% of the <b>S&amp;P 500 Broad Market Index</b>&#39;s holdings, provided those companies have raised their annual dividend payments for at least the past 10 consecutive years.</p><p>In other words, it holds stocks of companies that have proven their payout growth has staying power.</p><p>And the fund&#39;s own payouts from these dividends reflect this consistent growth. Last quarter&#39;s payment of $0.69 per share is markedly better than the payout of $0.52 per share for the same quarter five years earlier. Ten years ago, the mid-year quarterly dividend payment was only around $0.32 per share. The trade-off is the relatively low yield you get whenever you first step into a position. The current dividend yield is a modest 1.9%, and that&#39;s not out of line with its historical yields, even going back to 2008 when interest rates were wildly erratic.</p><p>It&#39;s worth it, though, even beyond the below-average yield. The price of the fund itself is 160% higher than it was 10 years ago, giving income investors a nice shot of capital appreciation as well.</p><h2>2. SPDR Portfolio S&amp;P 500 High Dividend ETF</h2><p>At the other end of the yield spectrum, you&#39;ll find the <b>SPDR Portfolio S&amp;P 500 High Dividend ETF</b>, currently dishing out a solid 3.8% of its value in the form of annual dividends.</p><p>As you might suspect, the SPDR Portfolio S&amp;P 500 High Dividend ETF aims to own high-yielding stocks. The fund specifically mirrors the <b>S&amp;P 500 High Dividend Index</b>, which is made up of the <b>S&amp;P 500</b>&#39;s 80 highest-yielding stocks. Since the index&#39;s highest-yielding tickers can change on a rather regular basis, the fund&#39;s constituents are updated a couple of times per year to reflect these changes.</p><p>Veteran investors know that high yields can be a trap. The payouts look generous, but there&#39;s often an underlying reason a stock&#39;s price is low enough to push its dividend yield to among the highest within an index&#39;s members. And certainly, this approach has allowed the occasional clunker to make its way into the portfolio&#39;s mix. When you&#39;ve got a total of 80 stocks in the mix, though, that occasional clunker&#39;s problems are more than overcome by the remaining stock&#39;s growth and strong dividend payments.</p><p>In this vein, the S&amp;P 500 High Dividend Index is up more than 21% in the past five years and higher to the tune of 95% in the past 10. That&#39;s in addition to the above-average dividends it&#39;s paid out during that time. That&#39;s not bad at all, even if its dividend growth is slower than that of the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF.</p><h2>3. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/EFFE\">Global X</a> NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF</h2><p>Lastly, add the <b>Global X NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF</b> to your list of dividend-paying ETF prospects you should consider if you&#39;re looking for additional retirement income.</p><p>For most investors, equity and index options (essentially, contractual bets that a stock or the market will move in a specified direction by a certain point in time) impose far too much risk relative to their prospective reward. They&#39;re also fickle instruments, not to mention complicated. Even covered calls can be more of a pain to try than they&#39;re worth despite sometimes being considered a riskless type of trade; the risk lies in the potential opportunity cost.</p><p>When left to the professionals who can give a full-time effort to the task, though, selling covered calls is an effective means of generating cash over and over again.</p><p>To this end, the Global X NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF&#39;s current trailing-12-month yield of 11.4% is neither a fluke nor a typo. The fund has actually dished out that sort of income monthly.</p><p>There&#39;s a catch of sorts. That is, when covered-call strategies are working, they&#39;re generally working well. When they&#39;re not working perfectly, though, they&#39;re generally not working at all. That&#39;s why retirees may not want to completely rely on income from QYLD. It&#39;s best held side by side with more reliable income investments like SPYD and VIG, to buffer any sudden disruptions in its payout. Prospective owners may also want to look elsewhere if at least some capital appreciation is required. Here's a trio of such ETFs to consider, with each one bringing something unique to the table.1. Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETFJust as the name suggests, the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF holds stocks of companies with a history of dividend growth. Namely, it's meant to mirror the S&P U.S. Dividend Growers Index. It consists of the 290 highest-yielding names -- roughly 25% of the S&P 500 Broad Market Index's holdings, provided those companies have raised their annual dividend payments for at least the past 10 consecutive years.In other words, it holds stocks of companies that have proven their payout growth has staying power.And the fund's own payouts from these dividends reflect this consistent growth. Last quarter's payment of $0.69 per share is markedly better than the payout of $0.52 per share for the same quarter five years earlier. Ten years ago, the mid-year quarterly dividend payment was only around $0.32 per share. The trade-off is the relatively low yield you get whenever you first step into a position. The current dividend yield is a modest 1.9%, and that's not out of line with its historical yields, even going back to 2008 when interest rates were wildly erratic.It's worth it, though, even beyond the below-average yield. SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 High Dividend ETFAt the other end of the yield spectrum, you'll find the SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 High Dividend ETF, currently dishing out a solid 3.8% of its value in the form of annual dividends.As you might suspect, the SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 High Dividend ETF aims to own high-yielding stocks. The fund specifically mirrors the S&P 500 High Dividend Index, which is made up of the S&P 500's 80 highest-yielding stocks. Since the index's highest-yielding tickers can change on a rather regular basis, the fund's constituents are updated a couple of times per year to reflect these changes.Veteran investors know that high yields can be a trap. The payouts look generous, but there's often an underlying reason a stock's price is low enough to push its dividend yield to among the highest within an index's members. And certainly, this approach has allowed the occasional clunker to make its way into the portfolio's mix. When you've got a total of 80 stocks in the mix, though, that occasional clunker's problems are more than overcome by the remaining stock's growth and strong dividend payments.In this vein, the S&P 500 High Dividend Index is up more than 21% in the past five years and higher to the tune of 95% in the past 10. They're also fickle instruments, not to mention complicated. Even covered calls can be more of a pain to try than they're worth despite sometimes being considered a riskless type of trade; the risk lies in the potential opportunity cost.When left to the professionals who can give a full-time effort to the task, though, selling covered calls is an effective means of generating cash over and over again.To this end, the Global X NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF's current trailing-12-month yield of 11.4% is neither a fluke nor a typo. The fund has actually dished out that sort of income monthly.There's a catch of sorts. That is, when covered-call strategies are working, they're generally working well. Baird analyst Peter Benedict deliberated over the company’s quarterly performance and its current progress and emerged bullish on Walmart’s prospects.Too Many Upsides to IgnoreWalmart’s affordable products, especially in the grocery segment, helped pull more middle-to-high income customers to its stores as inflation rose to a 40-year high during Q2. Mentioning research firm Nielsen’s findings, Benedict noted that the company continues to gain market share in the grocery domain.Right-sizing its inventory is another step taken by Walmart, which Benedict believes will help the company operate better. Walmart has been focusing on reducing excess inventory, particularly in hardlines, since the first quarter of this year. The Nasdaq index&#39;s drop of about 0.6% on Thursday left the tech-heavy index up 20% from recent low on June 16, while the S&amp;P 500 has also rebounded in recent weeks, now up 15% from its recent low in June.</p><p>The recent gains led analysts at Bespoke Investment Group to declare on Thursday morning the Nasdaq had exited its recent bear market, even though the index remains down about 21% from its record high close last November, with trillions of dollars in stock market value still lost.</p><p>On Wall Street, the terms &#34;bull&#34; and &#34;bear&#34; markets are often used to characterize broad upward or downward trends in asset prices.</p><p>Both indexes are widely viewed as having been in bear markets in 2022, but not all analysts define bull or bear markets the same way, and many investors use the terms loosely.</p><p>&#34;We could write for hours on the semantics of bull and bear markets,&#34; Bespoke wrote in its research note, saying a new bull market was now confirmed to have started on June 16.</p><p>The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a bull market simply as &#34;a market in which securities or commodities are persistently rising in value.&#34;</p><p>Some investors define a bear market more specifically as a decline of at least 20% in a stock or index from its previous peak, with the peak defining the beginning of the bear market, which is only recognized in hindsight following the at-least 20% decline.</p><p>Similarly, some define a bull market as a 20% rise from a previous low, and by that measure, used by Bespoke, the Nasdaq could now be viewed as having begun a fresh bull market.</p><p>The Securities and Exchange Commission says on its website that, &#34;Generally, a bull market occurs when there is a rise of 20% or more in a broad market index over at least a two-month period.&#34;</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9f04a86f63ca45a1d596fe99d7b33468\" tg-width=\"524\" tg-height=\"392\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>The Nasdaq&#39;s steep declines</span></p><p>S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices, which administers the S&amp;P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average, has an even more nuanced definition of a bull market.</p><p>A drop of 20% or more from a high, followed by a 20% gain from that lower level, would leave an index still below its previous peak, a situation S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices Senior Index Analyst Howard Silverblatt describes as a &#34;bull rally in a bear market&#34;.</p><p>Analysts warn against relying too much on backward-looking definitions of market cycles that do little to capture current sentiment or predict where stocks will go in the future.</p><p>Factors like the velocity of the market’s rise or fall and how much average stocks have changed contribute to whether investors view a major move as a turning point in sentiment or a short-term interruption to an existing bull or bear market.</p><p>Indeed, investors can only be sure they are in a new bull market once a new record high has been reached, and at that point, the previous low would mark the end of the bear market and beginning of the new bull market, according to S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices.</p><p>For example, during the bear market caused by the 2008 financial crisis, the S&amp;P 500 rallied over 20% from a low in November 2008, raising hopes the stock rout was over.
