The cryptocurrency uses more energy than entire countries such as Sweden and Malaysia, according to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index.\nTo understand why bitcoin is so energy-intensive, you have to look at its underlying technology, the blockchain.\nBitcoin's public ledger is decentralized, meaning it isn't controlled by any single authority. It's constantly being updated by a network of computers around the world.\nSo-called miners run purpose-built computers to solve complex math puzzles in order to make a transaction go through. This is the only way to mint new bitcoins.\nMiners do not run this operation for free. They have to shell out huge sums on specialized equipment. A key incentive of bitcoin's model, known as \"proof of work,\" is the promise of being rewarded in some bitcoin if you manage to solve its complex hashing algorithm.\nIt's worth noting thatdogecoin, which has risen wildly in price lately on the back of support from Musk, also uses a proof-of-work mechanism.\nCarol Alexander, a professor at the University of Sussex Business School, explains that bitcoin's mining \"difficulty\" — a measure of the computational effort it takes to mine bitcoin — has been going \"up and up\" over the last three years.\n\"More and more electricity is being used,\" Alexander told CNBC. \"That means that the network difficulty will also be going up (and) more miners are coming in because the hash rate's going up.\"\nBitcoin's price is up almost 70% so far this year. As it goes up in price, the revenue to miners also increases, incentivizing more participants to mine the cryptocurrency.\nMeanwhile, Musk isn't the only one who's worried about the environmental impact of bitcoin. In February, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that the digital coin is \"extremely inefficient\" for making transactions and uses a \"staggering\" amount of power.\nDoes bitcoin actually harm the environment?\nIt's complicated. On the one hand, bitcoin's network uses anunfathomable amount of energy. Much of the mining of bitcoin is concentrated in China, whose economy is still heavily reliant on coal.\nLast month, a coal mine in the Xinjiang region flooded and shut down. This took nearly a quarter of bitcoin's hash rate — or computing power — offline, according to crypto industry publicationCoinDesk.\nIn March, China's Inner Mongolia region said it wouldshut down cryptocurrency mining operationsin the region due to concerns over energy consumption.\nOn the other side of the debate, bitcoin investors have attempted to push back on the narrative that it's harmful for the environment.\nWhile it's difficult to determine the energy mix that powers bitcoin, some in the crypto industry say miners are incentivized to use renewables as it's getting cheaper to produce them. In China, the province of Sichuan is known to attract miners due to its cheap electricity and rich hydropower resources.\nLast month,Jack Dorsey'sfintech companySquareand Cathie Wood's Ark Invest put out amemoclaiming that bitcoin will actually drive renewable energy innovation. However, critics said they had avested interestin doing so.\nAlexander said the debate around bitcoin's environmental impact was misguided as most transactions with the digital asset aren't happening on the blockchain.\n\"Almost all the trading is not done on the blockchain,\" she said. \"It's done on secondary markets, centralized exchanges. They're not even recorded on the blockchain.\"\nESG concerns\nRegardless of whether bitcoin is actually a polluter or not, the negative connotations around its energy consumption have worried investors conscious of companies' ethical and environmental responsibilities.\nESG, or environmental, social and corporate governance, has become agrowing trendin financial markets, with portfolio managers increasingly incorporating sustainable investments into their strategies.\nSome Tesla shareholders may be worried that the company is betting big on bitcoin while also claiming to be a green energy company.\n\"Bitcoin backers will be wondering where this leaves the future of the cryptocurrency,\" Laith Khalaf, a financial analyst at investment firm AJ Bell, said in a note Thursday.\n\"Environmental matters are an incredibly sensitive subject right now, and Tesla's move might serve as a wake-up call to businesses and consumers using Bitcoin, who hadn't hitherto considered its carbon footprint,\" Khalaf added.\n\"Tesla's decision certainly puts pressure on other big companies who accept Bitcoin to review their practices, because boardrooms will now be wary about getting it in the ear from ESG investors on the shareholder register.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":27,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3581742160042398","authorId":"3581742160042398","name":"Ben1978","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"content":"Like and comment pls","text":"Like and comment pls","html":"Like and comment pls"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168151680,"gmtCreate":1623967903340,"gmtModify":1703824735971,"author":{"id":"3582063342503280","authorId":"3582063342503280","name":"banchin","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5c4c72eded6f6ba8a8c66bbf3cd0e90c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please give me comments and like ","listText":"Please give me comments and like ","text":"Please give me comments and like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/168151680","repostId":"2144742672","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144742672","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1623943500,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2144742672?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-17 23:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Facebook launches ads globally for Instagram Reels","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144742672","media":"Reuters","summary":"June 17 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is launching ads globally on its TikTok clone Instagram Reels, the ","content":"
June 17 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is launching ads globally on its TikTok clone Instagram Reels, the company said on Thursday.
\n
The social media company, which is aiming to make money from its short-form video feature, began testing Instagram Reels ads in India, Brazil, Germany and Australia in April. TheS&P 500is trading near a record high, but has been bouncing around the 4,200 level for more than a month.\nKolanovic, who gained a following on Wall Street over the past two years for his timely market calls during the pandemic, said in a note to clients on Monday that the market was positioned for a breakout.\n“The next leg higher is likely upon us, following the sideways move in markets and bond yields over the past two months, with Cyclicals expected to do better again vs Defensives,” the note said. “Despite peaking in some activity indicators, the market is likely to get comfortable that growth will remain significantly above trend in 2H, supported by both consumer and capex.”\nThe prediction for a move higher in stocks is part of Kolanovic’s larger risk-on view. The trading pattern of the broader market appears consistent with a pause in a bull market and not a set-up for a pullback, he said.\n“Our outlook remains positive for risky asset classes, with expectations for Equities and Commodities to have the highest return, and bond yields to continue their move higher. This pro-risk view is driven by the ongoing recovery from the pandemic ... accommodative monetary stance from global central banks, and still below-average positioning in risky asset classes such as equities and commodities,” the note said.\nThe strategist did warn that market participants and economists appear to be underestimating the risk of inflation in the second half of the year. Rising prices and Fed policy changes could lead to higher interest rates and impact which stocks turn out to be winners, Kolanovic said.\n“This suggests that it is premature to come back to Tech, but Value and value-oriented sectors should continue to outperform,” the note said.\nKolanovic has been bullish recently, telling CNBC in May that the market was “getting cheap” and in Januarydownplayed concerns that stocks were in a bubble.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":170,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3575256482663287","authorId":"3575256482663287","name":"schipperde","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2a4e4121277bf6de1807fa76d4c1d390","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"content":"help planned to almost double the capital gains tax, news analysts said provided an excuse to take profits in a directionless market ahead of big tech's earnings next week.

The three main indexes on Wall Street also fell on reports that Biden planned to raise income taxes on the wealthy, a proposal some said would be hard to pass in Congress.

\"If it had a chance of passing, we'd be down 2,000 points,\" said Thomas Hayes, chairman and managing member at hedge fund Great Hill Capital LLC.

Paul Nolte, portfolio manager at Kingsview Investment Management in Chicago, said when a proposal is floated about raising taxes or capital gains, everybody gets excited, sells first and asks questions later.

\"It is more of a short-term, knee-jerk reaction,\" he said.

Biden will propose raising the marginal income tax rate to 39.6% from 37% and nearly double capital gains taxes to 39.6% for people earning more than $1 million, sources told Reuters.

The proposal targets about $1 trillion for child care, universal pre-kindergarten education and paid leave for workers, the sources said.

Markets have been listless after the Dow and S&P 500 scaled all-time peaks last week as investors await guidance from Microsoft Corp , Google parent Alphabet Inc and Facebook Inc when they report earnings next week.

\"Until we get out of this information vacuum the market is going to be generally directionless,\" he said. \"All that really matters moving forward is what are those big tech earnings next week?\"

During the session, the S&P 500 healthcare sector hit a fresh record high while industrials were the biggest gainers.

American Airlines Group Inc and Southwest Airlines Co reported smaller-than-expected quarterly losses, signaling a revival in travel demand. Both shares fell.

Investors welcomed data showing the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week dropped to a fresh one-year low. The Labor Department report suggested layoffs were subsiding and expectations were rising for another month of blockbuster job growth in April.

The speedy U.S. vaccination rollout has improved the economic outlook as people plan summer vacations and leisure spending, but a surge in COVID-19 cases in India and elsewhere in Asia has kept investors anxious, Hayes said.

Equities have likely reached a near-term top as expectations are too high, said Randy Frederick, vice president of trading and derivatives at Charles Schwab.

\"There's going to be continued positive moves throughout the remainder of the year but we are due for some sort of a pullback in the very short term,\" he said. \"Then the dip buyers will step back in.\"

First-quarter earnings are expected to increase 31.9% from a year ago, the highest rate since the fourth quarter, according to IBES Refinitiv data.

All 11 S&P 500 sectors closed lower as Microsoft, Apple Inc , Amazon.com Inc and Tesla Inc weighted the most on the downdraft.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.94% to 33,815.9, the S&P 500 lost 0.92% at 4,134.98, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.94% to 13,818.41.

Volume on U.S. exchanges was 10.35 billion shares, compared with the 10.32 billion full-session average over the last 20 trading days.

Chipmaker Intel Corp forecast second-quarter revenue above Wall Street targets, betting its next generation of processors for data centers and PCs will meet growing demand for cloud-based services. Shares slipped about 1% in after-hours trade.

AT&T Inc beat Wall Street revenue targets as the U.S. economic reopening following pandemic-linked restrictions boosted smartphone sales and the media business. AT&T shares rose 4.2%.

Biogen Inc beat quarterly profit estimates on stronger-than-expected sales for its muscle wasting disorder drug, though concerns over its reliance on its yet-to-be approved Alzheimer's therapy, aducanumab, weighed on shares. A simple recent example is how the price of lumber skyrocketed amid Covid-related shortages.
\n
In the stock market, the companies seen as the best positioned by big money will see their share price driven higher as demand ramps up. When this happens, supply will also be constricted, as holders will be more reluctant to sell their shares. Thus, supply and demand is the S in IBD'sCAN SLIM investing method, and the subject of the fourth in an Investor's Corner series.
\n
Legendary IBD founder William O'Neil, writing in his classic tome, \"How to Make Money in Stocks,\" said supply and demand is \"more important than the opinions of all the analysts on Wall Street, no matter what schools they attended, what degrees they earned, or how high their IQs.\"
\n
Float Size Matters
\n
A key point to bear in mind is whether the stock you are eying has a large or a small float: the number of shares available for trading. Getting locked into a stock with a small supply of shares means you can be taken on wild rides, both on the upside and the downside.
\n
On the other hand, investing in a big-cap name with a massive amount of shares outstanding means it is much more difficult for that stock to make big moves. On the plus side, this can also be less stressful on one's stomach.
\n
The ideal is to find a happy medium — a stock that boasts strong earnings growth, and one that is still expanding by offering new products and services. Also look for one that is attracting the attention of institutional investors. Nevertheless, stocks of companies with any size of capitalization can be bought byCAN SLIM investors.
\n
Other encouraging signs to look for are companies that are buying back their stock, which reduces the supply of shares in the market.
\n
How do you measure demand?
\n
As is often the case when researching a stock, charts are key. Look at the average daily trading volume. Days where the number of shares traded is much higher, or lower, than normal are a key indicator.
\n
When a share price spikes in big trading volume, this is a clear sign of institutional demand. It is a key indicator that mutual fund managers and other big money buyers, who account for most trading in the stock market, are snapping up a stock. This sort of accumulation is the main driver for big price moves.
\n
Piggybacking on such action is a proven way for the intelligent investor to succeed. But make sure to carefully study price charts to find stocks that arebreaking out of proper basesor rebounding from key chart levels. When a stock tops abuy point, ideally volume will be at least 40% above average.
\n
The IBD Stock Checkup is another key tool. Under the supply and demand section, you'll find pass or fail ratings for all key related criteria.
\n
That includes information on a stock's market capitalization and itsAccumulation/Distribution Rating, which gauges institutional buying and selling over the previous 13 weeks. Also, the percentage change in funds owning a stock and the number of quarters of increasing fund ownership. Look for stocks flashing green lights in all of these areas.
","source":"lsy1610449120050","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Here's How The Laws Of Supply And Demand Lead To Major Moves For Growth Stocks
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHere's How The Laws Of Supply And Demand Lead To Major Moves For Growth Stocks\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-04 11:56 GMT+8 investors\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The laws of supply and demand seem simple on their face, but understanding the subtle nuances is key for stock investors who want to take advantage of major price moves.\nSupply and demand is one of ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/heres-how-the-laws-of-supply-and-demand-lead-to-major-moves-for-growth-stocks/?src=A00220","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1124717185","content_text":"The laws of supply and demand seem simple on their face, but understanding the subtle nuances is key for stock investors who want to take advantage of major price moves.\nSupply and demand is one of the bedrock principles of business and economics. Thus, supply and demand is the S in IBD'sCAN SLIM investing method, and the subject of the fourth in an Investor's Corner series.\nLegendary IBD founder William O'Neil, writing in his classic tome, \"How to Make Money in Stocks,\" said supply and demand is \"more important than the opinions of all the analysts on Wall Street, no matter what schools they attended, what degrees they earned, or how high their IQs.\"\nFloat Size Matters\nA key point to bear in mind is whether the stock you are eying has a large or a small float: the number of shares available for trading. Getting locked into a stock with a small supply of shares means you can be taken on wild rides, both on the upside and the downside.\nOn the other hand, investing in a big-cap name with a massive amount of shares outstanding means it is much more difficult for that stock to make big moves. On the plus side, this can also be less stressful on one's stomach.\nThe ideal is to find a happy medium — a stock that boasts strong earnings growth, and one that is still expanding by offering new products and services. Also look for one that is attracting the attention of institutional investors. Nevertheless, stocks of companies with any size of capitalization can be bought byCAN SLIM investors.\nOther encouraging signs to look for are companies that are buying back their stock, which reduces the supply of shares in the market.\nHow do you measure demand?\nAs is often the case when researching a stock, charts are key. Look at the average daily trading volume. Days where the number of shares traded is much higher, or lower, than normal are a key indicator.\nWhen a share price spikes in big trading volume, this is a clear sign of institutional demand. It is a key indicator that mutual fund managers and other big money buyers, who account for most trading in the stock market, are snapping up a stock. This sort of accumulation is the main driver for big price moves.\nPiggybacking on such action is a proven way for the intelligent investor to succeed. But make sure to carefully study price charts to find stocks that arebreaking out of proper basesor rebounding from key chart levels. When a stock tops abuy point, ideally volume will be at least 40% above average.\nThe IBD Stock Checkup is another key tool. Under the supply and demand section, you'll find pass or fail ratings for all key related criteria.\nThat includes information on a stock's market capitalization and itsAccumulation/Distribution Rating, which gauges institutional buying and selling over the previous 13 weeks. Also, the percentage change in funds owning a stock and the number of quarters of increasing fund ownership. Look for stocks flashing green lights in all of these areas.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":138,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165654282,"gmtCreate":1624139556046,"gmtModify":1703829203338,"author":{"id":"3582063342503280","authorId":"3582063342503280","name":"banchin","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5c4c72eded6f6ba8a8c66bbf3cd0e90c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please give me comments and like ","listText":"Please give me comments and like ","text":"Please give me comments and like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/165654282","repostId":"1166679093","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1166679093","pubTimestamp":1624065234,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1166679093?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-19 09:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1166679093","media":"fool","summary":"Meme stocks have been all the rage so far this year. That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.
\n
However, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.
\n
AMC Entertainment
\n
AMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.
\n
The consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.
\n
But isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.
\n
However, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
Clover Health Investments
\n
Only a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.
\n
Since the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.
\n
Clover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
\n
Still, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.
\n
Sundial Growers
\n
At one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.
\n
Analysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.
\n
There certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.
\n
Sundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. After all, the company posted positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in Q1 due to its investments.
\n
However, the cash that Sundial is using to make these investments has come at the cost of increased dilution of its stock. The company can't afford any additional dilution without having to resort to desperate measures to keep its listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-19 09:13 GMT+8 fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Meme stocks have been all the rage so far this year. Appointing a payment specialist will help companies such as Apple solve for the different and evolving needs of consumers.”According to Zahir Khoja, head of North America at Afterpay, it’s important to note that its customers of Millennials and Gen Z represent a massive shift to debit spending, with more than 90 percent of transactions being made with a debit card.“Unlike other BNPL products, which are just a new form of a credit card, Afterpay gives shoppers the ability to avoid expensive interest, hidden fees and pernicious debt,” Khoja said. “Afterpay’s current partnership with Apple represents a significant change in the way young people want to pay.Affirm, Klarna and Quadpay withheld comment for this stocks fell on Friday, pushing the Dow Jones Industrials Average into the red for the week, as inflation fears overshadowed strong retail sales numbers and better-than-expected earnings reports.\nThe Dow lost 299.17 points, or 0.86%, to close at 34,687.85. The S&P 500 dipped 0.75% to 4,327.16 and the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.8% to 14,427.24.\nThe three averages closed the week lower to each snap 3-week win streaks. The Dow ended the week down 0.52%, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.97% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.87% during the same period.\n\nA U.S.consumer sentimentindex from the University of Michigan came in at 80.8 for the first half of July, down from 85.5 last month and worse than estimates from economists, who projected an increase. The report released Friday showed inflation expectations rising, with consumers believing prices will increase 4.8% in the next year, the highest level since August 2008.\nThe Dow gave up its gains early Friday shortly after the University of Michigan report came out 30 minutes into the session. Losses increased as the day went on with major averages closing at the lows of the session.\nThe consumer sentiment weakness “is at face value hard to square with the acceleration in employment growth and the continued resilience of the stock market,” said Andrew Hunter, senior U.S. economist at Capital Economics, but the report “suggested that concerns over surging inflation are now outweighing those positive trends.”\nInflation fears\nThe market was held back all week by inflation fears although the S&P 500 and Dow did touch new all-time highs briefly. On Tuesday, theconsumer price indexshowed a 5.4% increase in June from a year ago, the fastest pace in nearly 13 years.\nStocks got off to a good start Friday with the Dow rising more than 100 points to above 35,000 shortly after the open.Data released before the bell showed retail and food service salesrose 0.6% in June, while economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected a 0.4% decline. If that level held, it would have been the Dow’s first close ever above 35,000.\nDespite the week’s losses, the Dow is still up 13% for the year and sits just 1.15% from an all-time high. The S&P 500 is up 15% on the year and is 1.51% below its record level.\n“The market looks broadly fairly valued to me, with most stocks priced to provide a market rate of return plus or minus a few percent,” Bill Miller, chairman and chief investment officer of Miller Value Partners, said in an investor letter.\n“There are pockets of what look like appreciable over-valuation and pockets of significant undervaluation in the US market, in my opinion. We can find plenty of names to fill our portfolios and so remain fully invested,” the value investor added.\nEnergy correction\nEnergy stocks, the hottest part of the market in 2021, fell into correction territory on Friday as oil prices pulled back from their highs.\nThe Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund fell more than 2% on Friday, the worst of any group, dropping 14% from its high. Still, the sector is up about 28% in 2021, making it the top performer of any of the 11 main industry groups.\nWeaker performance from technology stocks also weighed on the market Friday. Shares of Apple closed 1.4% lower afternotching a record closejust two days prior. Netflix shares fell ahead of the streaming giant’s second-quarter earnings report next week.\nInvestors digested strong earnings results from the first major week of second-quarter reports. Though some of the nation’s largest companies posted healthy earnings and revenues amid the economic recovery, the reaction in the stock market has so far been muted.\nThe Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ended the week 1.5% lower despite big profit growth numbers posted by the likes of JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America.\n“Good earnings might have become an excuse for some investors to take profit. And with earnings expectations so high in general, it takes a really big beat for a company to impress,” JJ Kinahan, TD Ameritrade chief market strategist, said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":10,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":137195699,"gmtCreate":1622325141911,"gmtModify":1704182926496,"author":{"id":"3582063342503280","authorId":"3582063342503280","name":"banchin","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5c4c72eded6f6ba8a8c66bbf3cd0e90c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please give me comments and like ","listText":"Please give me comments and like ","text":"Please give me comments and like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/137195699","repostId":"2138948877","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2138948877","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"The leading daily newsletter for the latest financial and business news. 33Yrs Helping Stock Investors with Investing Insights, Tools, News & More.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Investors","id":"1085713068","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/608dd68a89ed486e18f64efe3136266c"},"pubTimestamp":1622215813,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2138948877?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-28 23:30","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The Pandemic May Have Changed Vacations – And Travel Stocks Like Airbnb, Marriott, Winnebago – Forever","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2138948877","media":"Investors","summary":"Vacation trends reveal shifts toward privacy, luxury and family, continuing a transformative period for leisure and travel stocks.","content":"
Your next vacation will likely be more private, luxurious or family oriented than your trips in the past, and business trips may never be the same. For leisure and travel stocks like Airbnb that got slammed by pandemic shutdowns, the lifting of Covid curbs means adjusting to a whole new world.

Some tastes people acquired last year as they looked for escapes from lockdown are proving durable, like traveling to national parks by RV. Others, such as boating, grew out of surges in wealth that the stock market rally provided. As the summer travel season heats up, Americans are making new choices in where they go, when they go, how they get there and who joins them.

\"The world is never going back to the way it was,\" said Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky on an earnings call in May. \"And that means that travel is never going back to the way it was either.\"

One major trend is travelers have become more flexible about when and where they go, especially as remote work allows people to blur when they are on and off the clock. Airbnb stock rose May 24, when the company updated booking features, including an option to search for listings without fixed dates or locations.

And consumers aren't the only ones changing their habits. While tourism-dependent destinations suffered last year, the less-packed streets also showed locals the benefits of quieter communities.

Residents and local officials in normally packed hot spots like Italy and Hawaii are considering limiting the number of tourists. Such a seismic change could make visiting these places prohibitively expensive for many people. If the mix of travelers tilts more heavily toward the wealthy, travel stocks will nudge further toward luxury.

Leisure, Travel Industry Stocks

Shares across the sector have rebounded from last year's pandemic lows. The stocks' recent chart action is mixed. But many travel stocks have outperformed the market the past week and could present buying opportunities for investors.

Airline stocks like American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines surged earlier this year on the Reddit stock short squeeze. Then they sold off because business and overseas travel remained weak. Since then, they've consolidated and are approaching buy points.

Cruise stocks like Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line are showing similar patterns.

Meanwhile, shares of boat makers MarineMax and Brunswick as well as RV makers Winnebago and Thor Industries need to regroup after some failed breakouts. They are no longer in buy zones but could form new bases if earnings and sales growth remain strong.

Hotel leader Marriott has been less volatile and is forming a base, though earnings and sales have yet to fully recover.

Airbnb stock has had a more difficult year. It surged after going public in December but began to slump in March as competition from Expedia rival Vrbo rental service reduced the availability of hosts. A mixed Q1 earnings report and the end of a post-IPO lockup period also weighed on Airbnb stock, which popped up 6% Thursday on higher volume but remained 35% off its 2021 high.

When Luxury Means More Privacy

Luxury travel, once the purview of only the ultrarich, may have won over those who might have had the means but not the need to travel lavishly. As travelers sought to avoid crowds during the pandemic, those with the means turned to options like private jets.

Arnie Weissman, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly, says the pandemic opened luxury travel to a wider customer base. \"Some people developed a taste for it, and it's likely to continue.\"

Kim-Marie Evans, who writes the blog \"Luxury Travel Moms\" and plans travel for high-net-worth clients, told IBD she booked a trip for a family to Anguilla.

They stayed in a four-bedroom villa at the Four Seasons. And rather than flying commercially, they used a private jet service.

Private jet bookings are at or near their pre-pandemic highs, according to Elite Traveler, citing industry tracker FlightAware's data.

In May, private jet company Wheels Up said membership jumped 58% in Q1 to nearly 10,000. And VistaJet, another leading private jet company, said membership climbed 29% from a year ago.

Private jet leasing company NetJets, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, says its flight volume dropped to as low as 10% of 2019 numbers at the start of the pandemic.

Now the company, which also offers fractional ownership of its jets, says it's operating at 85% of its 2019 volume. NetJets said in a statement that commercial airlines have reduced their schedules. Consumers also are prioritizing their health and safety, choosing the seclusion of a private jet over a packed jetliner.

Vacation Shift Favors These Travel Stocks

Hotel chains implemented stringent Covid-19 protocols to convince visitors their properties were clean and safe. Still, many travelers opted to rent private homes through Airbnb, where they could avoid mingling with strangers in hotel lobbies, Weismann says.

Travel trends favor Airbnb stock long term, though it currently is slumping. On May 27, analysts at RBC Capital Markets rated shares at outperform, citing secular tailwinds that have yet to be fully appreciated by the market such as its dominant customer engagement.

The pandemic also shed light on the market potential of travel stocks like Marriott, which operates home-rental service Homes & Villas by Marriott International, catering to ultra premium short- and long-term stays, CFRA Research analyst Tuna Amobi says.

The Homes & Villas platform, which offers professionally managed private homes, had around 2,000 units at launch less than two years ago. Today, it lists nearly 25,000 properties.

\"They're where we don't have hotels, and many of them are in more remote locations, which really was quite attractive during Covid,\" said Marriott International President Stephanie Linnartz in a recent call with investors.

Airbnb also finds that customers are visiting smaller cities, towns and rural communities — not the same 20-30 cities that were most popular pre-pandemic. People are traveling outside the peak seasons and staying longer.

\"There is a mass shift from mass travel to meaningful travel,\" CEO Chesky said.

Seaworthy Travel Stocks

Luxury cruising should also come back with a bang. Nearly every cruise line's around-the-world luxury voyage is fully booked two years in advance.

One cruise line, Silversea, said its 139-day around-the-world cruise sold out in a single day.
