Newspress","summary":"The Federal Reserve on Wednesday raises its benchmark interest rate to the highest level in 15 years","content":"

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday raises its benchmark interest rate to the highest level in 15 years, indicating that the fight against inflation is not over yet despite some promising signs lately.

Keeping with expectations, the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee voted to boost the overnight borrowing rate half a percentage point, taking it to a targeted range between 4.25% and 4.5%. The increase broke a string of four straight three-quarter point hikes, the most aggressive policy moves since the early 1980s.

Along with the increase came an indication that officials expect to keep rates higher through next year, with no reductions until 2024. The expected “terminal rate,” or point where officials expect to end the rate hikes, was put at 5.1%, according to the FOMC’s “dot plot” of individual members’ expectations.

The new level marks the highest the fed funds rate has been since December 2007, just ahead of the global financial crisis and as the Fed was loosening policy aggressively to combat what would turn into the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.

This time around, the Fed is raising rates into what is expected to be a moribund economy in 2023.

Members penciled in increases for the funds rate until it hits a median level of 5.1% next year, equivalent to a target range of 5%-5.25. At that point, officials are likely to pause to allow the impact of the monetary policy tightening make its way through the economy.

The consensus then pointed to a full percentage point worth of rate cuts in 2024, taking the funds rate to 4.1% by the end of that year. That is followed by another percentage point of cuts in 2025 to a rate of 3.1%, before the benchmark settles into a longer-run neutral level of 2.5%.

However, there was a fairly wide dispersion in the outlook for future years, indicating that members are uncertain about what is ahead for an economy dealing with the worst inflation it has seen since the early 1980s.

The newest dot plot featured multiple members seeing rates heading considerably higher than the median point for 2023 and 2024. For 2023, seven of the 19 committee members – voters and nonvoters included – saw rates rising above 5.25%. Similarly, there were seven members who saw rates higher than the median 4.1% in 2024.

The FOMC policy statement, approved unanimously, was virtually unchanged from November’s meeting. Some observers had expected the Fed to alter language that it sees “ongoing increases” ahead to something less committal, but that phrase remained in the statement.

Fed officials believe raising rates helps take money out the economy, reducing demand and ultimately pulling prices lower after inflation spiked to its highest level in more than 40 years.

The FOMC lowered its growth targets for 2023, putting expected GDP gains at just 0.5%, barely above what would be considered a recession. The GDP outlook for this year also was put at 0.5%. In the September projections, the committee expected 0.2% growth this year and 1.2% next.

The committee also raised its median anticipation of its favored core inflation measure to 4.8%, up 0.3 percentage points from the September outlook. Members slightly lowered their unemployment rate outlook for this year and bumped it a bit higher for the ensuing years.

The rate hike follows consecutive reports showing progress in the inflation fight.

The Labor Department reported Tuesday that the consumer price index rose just 0.1% in November, a smaller increase than expected as the 12-month rate dropped to 7.1%. Excluding food and energy, the core CPI rate was at 6%. Both measures were the lowest since December 2021. A level the Fed puts more weight on, the core personal consumption expenditures price index, fell to a 5% annual rate in October.

However, all of those readings remain well above the Fed’s 2% target. Officials have stressed the need to see consistent declines in inflation and have warned against relying too much on trends over just a few months.

Central bankers still feel they have leeway to raise rates, as hiring remains strong and consumers, who drive about two-thirds of all U.S. economic activity, are continuing to spend.

Nonfarm payrolls grew by a faster than expected 263,000 in November, while the Atlanta Fed is tracking GDP growth of 3.2% for the fourth quarter. The Consumer Price Index for August came in higher than expected, increasing 0.1%, which put Wall Street on pins and needles again.

If the markets continue to fall, investors might want to focus on companies that experienced the most demand in this environment, such as cloud computing and cybersecurity. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Price said it best: "No company is recession-proof. But some are more recession-resilient than others."

Companies are not going back to legacy data systems that are slower and more costly to operate. The cost savings of cloud-based services have become more important than ever in this inflationary environment. The same can be said for cybersecurity. Cyberthreats are certainly not going away just because of a weak economy.

Here are three companies delivering high revenue growth in these markets that should deliver massive returns to investors over the next decade.

Snowflake

Snowflake has emerged as a default option for companies looking for a cloud-based solution to access data without being bottlenecked by on-premise data systems. Snowflake's Data Cloud platform can be used with any of the major cloud infrastructure providers, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Alphabet's Google Cloud. Data can even be shared with other organizations through the Snowflake marketplace, which makes the platform more valuable as more users join.

The ability to share data throughout a company's ecosystem in just a few clicks is a winning card for Snowflake. For example, a business can easily upload and share data with its corporate customers to provide better insight about demand and inventory down the supply chain. That's an invaluable service with all the supply chain issues during the pandemic.

While the stock fell over valuation concerns this year, eventually the stock will track the company's growth, which has been exceptional. In the most recent quarter, revenue growth clocked in at a robust 83% over the year-ago quarter. There are more than 6,800 customers using the platform with a high revenue retention rate of 171%, which means customers are spending more with the company after first signing up. Many of the best software-as-a-service providers typically have a revenue retention rate of around 130% or less.

The best part is that Snowflake is delivering this level of growth profitably. Over the last four quarters, free cash flow came in at $292 million on $1.6 billion of revenue. This allows Snowflake to continue investing in new features without sacrificing its debt-free balance sheet.

The company has lots of opportunity across data warehousing, cybersecurity, and data engineering. Its total addressable market is estimated at $248 billion, which should pave the way for years of high growth. I started a position in the stock over the summer and wouldn't hesitate to buy more in the near term, especially if Snowflake continues to report strong growth on the top line.

SentinelOne

The threat of cyber attacks is only getting more severe. Changing technology means cyberthreats also evolve and get more sophisticated over time. That's why the cybersecurity industry is a ripe field to look for wealth-building growth stocks, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a faster-growing company than SentinelOne.

The stock has fallen 45% year to date, but the business has continued to grow like gangbusters. Revenue more than doubled in the first half of the year, with growth accelerating in the second quarter. Management noted that demand for business remains strong, which allowed the company to raise its full-year outlook.

There are several top cybersecurity providers, but the numbers make it clear that customers absolutely love SentinelOne. Compared to its peers, such as CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks, SentinelOne executives believe they have superior technology. For example, competitors might take up to an hour to remediate a threat, while SentinelOne's artificial intelligence-based solution protects endpoint devices, like phones and laptops, in real time.

The biggest concern for SentinelOne is that the company is showing negative free cash flow right now, so investors must have faith that continued growth on the top line will eventually lift profitability. At this early stage of the company's growth, it's an acceptable trade-off for what could be a home-run investment.

The company's market cap is $7.8 billion, whereas CrowdStrike has a market cap of $42 billion. There is clearly a lot of upside for SentinelOne. The cybersecurity market is expected to grow to over $400 billion by 2027. The companies showing the fastest growth are in the best position to deliver market-beating returns, which leaves SentinelOne as a top choice.

Cloudflare

You might use Cloudflare everyday without realizing it. Cloudflare's network infrastructure is used by businesses, websites, bloggers, and apps. It handles more than 10% of all internet traffic. Its technology basically makes applications more secure and faster to operate, while the company makes money from selling subscriptions to use its platform.

The steep sell-off in the stock price over the last year means investors are getting more bang for their buck with this fast-growing business.

Revenue growth remained consistent with the company's historical trend, growing 54% year over year through the first half of 2022. Management credited spending from large customers for the increase, which now represents 60% of Cloudflare's business. Generating more revenue from established companies is important because large corporations are more likely to keep spending on digital services, even during an uncertain economic environment.

Cloudflare gets more efficient the more customers join. As the company grows larger, it can more quickly shift customers' data across an expanding network to improve performance with their applications. On the second-quarter earnings call, CEO Matthew Price noted that a Fortune 500 energy company recently switched to Cloudflare from Zscaler, because the former was easier to use and better-performing.

Like SentinelOne, Cloudflare is generating negative free cash flow, but investors shouldn't worry too much about that at this early stage of growth. Cloudflare says its addressable market increased from $32 billion in 2018 to $115 billion, and it should keep growing. The Consumer Price Index for August came in higher than expected, increasing 0.1%, which put Wall Street on pins and needles again. If the markets continue to fall, investors might want to focus on companies that experienced the most demand in this environment, such as cloud computing and cybersecurity. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Price said it best: \"No company is recession-proof. But some are more recession-resilient than others.\"Image source: Getty Images.Companies are not going back to legacy data systems that are slower and more costly to operate. The cost savings of cloud-based services have become more important than ever in this inflationary environment. The same can be said for cybersecurity. Cyberthreats are certainly not going away just because of a weak economy. Here are three companies delivering high revenue growth in these markets that should deliver massive returns to investors over the next decade.SnowflakeSnowflake has emerged as a default option for companies looking for a cloud-based solution to access data without being bottlenecked by on-premise data systems. I started a position in the stock over the summer and wouldn't hesitate to buy more in the near term, especially if Snowflake continues to report strong growth on the top line.SentinelOneThe threat of cyber attacks is only getting more severe. Changing technology means cyberthreats also evolve and get more sophisticated over time. That's why the cybersecurity industry is a ripe field to look for wealth-building growth stocks, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a faster-growing company than SentinelOne.The stock has fallen 45% year to date, but the business has continued to grow like gangbusters. The companies showing the fastest growth are in the best position to deliver market-beating returns, which leaves SentinelOne as a top choice.CloudflareYou might use Cloudflare everyday without realizing it. Cloudflare's network infrastructure is used by businesses, websites, bloggers, and apps. It handles more than 10% of all internet traffic. Its technology basically makes applications more secure and faster to operate, while the company makes money from selling subscriptions to use its platform. The steep sell-off in the stock price over the last year means investors are getting more bang for their buck with this fast-growing business.Revenue growth remained consistent with the company's historical trend, growing 54% year over year through the first half of 2022. Management credited spending from large customers for the increase, which now represents 60% of Cloudflare's business. Generating more revenue from established companies is important because large corporations are more likely to keep spending on digital services, even during an uncertain economic environment.Cloudflare gets more efficient the more customers join. As the company grows larger, it can more quickly shift customers' data across an expanding network to improve performance with their applications. On the second-quarter earnings call, CEO Matthew Price noted that a Fortune 500 energy company recently switched to Cloudflare from Zscaler, because the former was easier to use and better-performing.Like SentinelOne, Cloudflare is generating negative free cash flow, but investors shouldn't worry too much about that at this early stage of growth. Cloudflare says its addressable market increased from $32 billion in 2018 to $115 billion, and it should keep growing. Most importantly, it is winning over customers from competitors and delivering very consistent revenue growth. Cloudflare is the only stock featured here that I don't have in my portfolio, but that may change soon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":59,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9030472991,"gmtCreate":1645800047974,"gmtModify":1676534065506,"author":{"id":"3583202487304124","authorId":"3583202487304124","name":"YJ13","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3583202487304124","idStr":"3583202487304124"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9030472991","repostId":"1191102724","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1191102724","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1645799616,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1191102724?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-25 22:33","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. Stocks Edge Higher Friday, Building on Thursday’s Sharp Reversal","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1191102724","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Stocks rose Friday, erasing losses earlier in the session, as investors continued to assess the fina","content":"

Stocks rose Friday, erasing losses earlier in the session, as investors continued to assess the financial risks stemming from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added about 130 points, or 0.4%. Intel's stock price rose less than 80% during that same period. That turnaround story has been well documented, but smart investors will likely also want to be aware of these three additional facts about AMD.

1. It's a "fabless" chipmaker

AMD was once an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) like Intel. IDMs design and manufacture their own chips at their own first-party foundries. However, maintaining first-party foundries and upgrading their systems to produce smaller and denser chips is a very capital-intensive process.

To eliminate those costs and streamline its operations, AMD spun off its foundry business as GlobalFoundries in 2009. It then became a "fabless" chipmaker that outsourced its production to third-party foundries like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and Samsung instead.

AMD also initially outsourced its chips to GlobalFoundries, but it stopped relying on its former foundry division after it halted its development of 7nm chips in 2018. AMD subsequently relied on TSMC to manufacture its most advanced CPUs.

Meanwhile, Intel stuck with its IDM model even as it fell behind TSMC in the "process race" to create more advanced chips. As a result, AMD's partnership with TSMC enabled it to produce smaller, denser, and more power-efficient CPUs than Intel over the past several years.

2. Intel is finally waking up

Intel's failure to keep up with TSMC, its ongoing production delays, and abrupt leadership changes all resulted in a massive loss of market share to AMD over the past six years.

Between the third quarters of 2016 and 2021, Intel's share of the x86 CPU market plunged from 82.5% to 60.2%, according to PassMark Software. AMD's share jumped from 17.5% to 39.7%.

But over the past four quarters, Intel seems to have woken up again under Pat Gelsinger, who took over the CEO position last February. Instead of following AMD's example and becoming a fabless chipmaker, Gelsinger had Intel double down on upgrading its first-party foundries to catch up to TSMC.

Intel also released new chips to counter AMD's Ryzen CPUs for PCs and Epyc CPUs for servers. Intel's latest chips still aren't as power-efficient as AMD's, but they're helping it tread water as it upgrades its foundries.

That tighter discipline has enabled Intel to regain some lost ground against AMD. Between the third quarter of 2021 and the second quarter of 2022, Intel's market share rose 6.2 percentage points to 66.4%. Intel's stock price rose less than 80% during that same period. That turnaround story has been well documented, but smart investors will likely also want to be aware of these three additional facts about AMD.Image source: AMD.1. It's a \"fabless\" chipmakerAMD was once an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) like Intel. It then became a \"fabless\" chipmaker that outsourced its production to third-party foundries like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and Samsung instead.AMD also initially outsourced its chips to GlobalFoundries, but it stopped relying on its former foundry division after it halted its development of 7nm chips in 2018. AMD subsequently relied on TSMC to manufacture its most advanced CPUs.Meanwhile, Intel stuck with its IDM model even as it fell behind TSMC in the \"process race\" to create more advanced chips. As a result, AMD's partnership with TSMC enabled it to produce smaller, denser, and more power-efficient CPUs than Intel over the past several years.2. Intel is finally waking upIntel's failure to keep up with TSMC, its ongoing production delays, and abrupt leadership changes all resulted in a massive loss of market share to AMD over the past six years.Between the third quarters of 2016 and 2021, Intel's share of the x86 CPU market plunged from 82.5% to 60.2%, according to PassMark Software. AMD's share jumped from 17.5% to 39.7%.But over the past four quarters, Intel seems to have woken up again under Pat Gelsinger, who took over the CEO position last February. Instead of following AMD's example and becoming a fabless chipmaker, Gelsinger had Intel double down on upgrading its first-party foundries to catch up to TSMC.Intel also released new chips to counter AMD's Ryzen CPUs for PCs and Epyc CPUs for servers. AMD's market share dropped 6.3 percentage points to 33.4%.AMD previously benefited from Intel's big blunders, but that heyday could end soon as Gelsinger overhauls Intel's entire business.3. However, the company also provides custom APUs -- which merge together a CPU and GPU on a single chip die -- for Sony's PS5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series S and X consoles.
