This is a milestone that every company aims for, though very few reach. For investors, this means constantly being on the lookout for innovators with revolutionary products that can take them to market capitalizations above $1 trillion.

As InvestorPlace analyst Luke Lango notes, in 2022, the iPhone helped Apple reach that milestone and become the world’s most valuable company with a market cap above $2 trillion. Plenty of experts have made predictions as to what the next trillion-dollar whale will be. But I wanted to hear what ChatGPT has to say about it.

Very much a revolutionary product itself, ChatGPT has proven apt at many things, including researching any number of topics and providing detailed information on them. This includes investing and stock selection. As InvestorPlace Financial News Writer Brenden Rearick reports:

“InvestorPlace has tasked ChatGPT time and again with selecting high-growth assets across the stock market and crypto world. The chatbot, while not necessarily up-to-date on stock market news, possesses a keen quantitative analysis skill…”

With this in mind, I tasked ChatGPT with identifying the next trillion-dollar company. While the chatbot can’t make direct predictions, it did provide me with a list of companies that it thinks have the potential to reach the trillion-dollar mark. When first asked, it named the sectors that it sees as having trillion-dollar potential: artificial intelligence, healthcare technology, electric and autonomous vehicles, fintech and renewable energy. A few questions later, it named companies from each one that it saw as having the best potential.

Let’s take a look at what ChatGPT thinks will be the next trillion-dollar companies.

Amazon

Source: Sundry Photography / Shutterstock.com

With a market cap of $970 billion, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is dangerously close to hitting $1 trillion. ChatGPT touts the e-commerce giant for its wide-range applications across many sectors. It specifically highlights Amazon’s recent investments in AI and robotics, making it clear that it sees this emerging market as the company’s ticket to a trillion-dollar valuation. This includes a recent partnership with AI startup Hugging Face, which offers Amazon exposure to a lucrative new section of the AI field. As the bot states:

“As the company continues to expand into new markets, such as healthcare and advertising, and invest in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and robotics, it could potentially continue to grow and reach a $1 trillion valuation.”

NextEra Energy

Source: madamF / Shutterstock.com

ChatGPT clearly recognizes the power and potential of the renewable energy sector. NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) is one of the field’s leaders, with vast holdings and an impressive market share. ChatGPT definitely sees it as a great play among clean energy companies. As it states:

“NextEra Energy is already one of the world’s largest producers of wind and solar power, and its focus on renewable energy and sustainability could help it continue to grow and reach a $1 trillion valuation.”

Additionally, the company is ranked as a winner among dividend stocks and carries significant appeal for less risk-averse investors. All this bodes well for its future as a potential trillion-dollar winner.

Moderna

Source: Ascannio / Shutterstock.com

Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) enjoyed a race to the top during the Covid-19 vaccine rush, securing its place among pharmaceutical winners. Now, ChatGPT believes it has trillion-dollar potential due to its applications in healthcare technology. While the bot did not get specific in its reasoning, it provided the following breakdown:

“Moderna is a biotechnology company that has gained significant attention and market value during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its successful development of an mRNA vaccine. As the company continues to develop and commercialize other mRNA-based treatments, it could potentially reach a $1 trillion valuation.”

It’s also worth noting that ChatGPT considers MRNA to be a meme stock. When Rearick asked it for a list of the best meme stocks to buy, its top 10 picks included Moderna. That said, this categorization is likely due to 2021 data, as during that year the stock made many headlines.

Nvidia

Source: Hairem / Shutterstock.com

It’s not surprising that this AI standout would be ranked among future trillion-dollar winners. A Silicon Valley darling with wide-ranging applications, Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is often noted for its potential to help power the AI boom. When I asked ChatGPT for a list of the best AI stocks to buy, it ranked Nvidia among its top picks, second only to actual trillion-dollar company Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL). This time around, it provided a detailed breakdown of why it sees Nvidia reaching the same level:

“Nvidia is a leading semiconductor and graphics processing unit (GPU) company that has been on a steady growth trajectory in recent years, with a current market capitalization of around $500 billion. There are several reasons why some analysts and investors believe that Nvidia has the potential to reach a $1 trillion valuation in the future.”

These reasons included “dominance in the AI and data center markets,” “diversification into new markets,” and high investor confidence as well as impressive financials. Nvidia’s market cap is actually $586 billion, a reminder that ChatGPT’s data is limited to 2021 and earlier. However, the rest of the reasoning holds up.

Illumina

Source: shutterstock.com/Romix Image

This name isn’t as well-known as the other stocks that ChatGPT named as potential trillion-dollar winners. But that doesn’t mean investors should count Illumina (NASDAQ:ILMN) out. As InvestorPlace contributor Larry Ramer notes, the biotech company is a leader in the field of gene sequencing, which he describes as a “key to unlocking precision medicine.” ChatGPT has a similar take, citing multiple reasons to be bullish on ILMN. As it states:

“Illumina is a leading company in the genomics and genetic testing space, providing genetic sequencing and analysis solutions to researchers, clinicians, and biotech companies. There are several factors that could contribute to the company’s growth potential.”

The chatbot highlights the company’s history of innovation while also naming “increasing demand for genetic testing” and “expansion into new markets” as factors for why it sees so much potential, as well as its focus on partnerships and diversification of products.

Tesla

Source: Roschetzky Photography / Shutterstock.com

It’s no surprise that such a popular company would be on this list, especially after ChatGPT named electric and autonomous vehicles as a top opportunity. Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is considered a leader in both fields.

While its autonomous driving technology has come under fire after multiple accidents, it remains firmly ahead of many competitors. Additionally, it still has its place at the front of the EV race, even as competitors close in. As InvestorPlace contributor Bret Kenwell reports, Tesla has already been in the trillion-dollar club and it could get there again. ChatGPT has a similar perspective. Per the bot:

“Tesla is currently the largest automaker by market capitalization, with a market cap [near] $600 billion. As the company continues to expand its electric vehicle production and autonomous driving capabilities, it could potentially reach a $1 trillion valuation.”

Block

Source: Sergei Elagin / Shutterstock.com

Constantly hailed as a winner in the fintech space, Block (NYSE:SQ) has emerged as a mobile payments leader. Led by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, the company is recovering from a volatile year. But this isn’t the first time that ChatGPT has selected it as a stock with significant growth potential. InvestorPlace Assistant News Writer Shrey Dua recently asked the bot for a list of tech stocks with high five-year growth potential. It ranked Block just below Nvidia on a list that included Apple and Amazon. Here’s what it told me about SQ stock:

“[Block] has been on a steady growth trajectory since its founding in 2009 and has already reached a market capitalization of over $100 billion. With its focus on innovative financial solutions for small businesses, the company could potentially continue to grow and reach a $1 trillion valuation.”

As a result of its difficult 2022, Block no longer boasts such a high market cap. As of this writing, it sits at $43 billion. If markets turn around in 2023, though, SQ could easily make up the ground it has lost.

","source":"investorplace","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
ChatGPT Says These 7 Stocks Could Be the Next Trillion-Dollar Companies
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nChatGPT Says These 7 Stocks Could Be the Next Trillion-Dollar Companies\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2023-03-16 10:44 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Here are the companies ChatGPT thinks can reach the trillion-dollar mark. The chatbot sees significant potential for sectors including tech and renewable energy. Some of its selections may be surprising...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"特斯拉","NVDA":"英伟达","SQ":"Block","MRNA":"Moderna, Inc.","NEE":"新纪元能源","ILMN":"Illumina","AMZN":"亚马逊"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2023/03/chatgpt-says-these-7-stocks-could-be-the-next-trillion-dollar-companies/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2319826065","content_text":"Here are the companies ChatGPT thinks can reach the trillion-dollar mark. The chatbot sees significant potential for sectors including tech and renewable energy. Some of its selections may be surprising, but all have potential to soar again.Source: Ascannio / Shutterstock.comInvestors will always be on the hunt for the next trillion-dollar companies. When first asked, it named the sectors that it sees as having trillion-dollar potential: artificial intelligence, healthcare technology, electric and autonomous vehicles, fintech and renewable energy. A few questions later, it named companies from each one that it saw as having the best potential.Let’s take a look at what ChatGPT thinks will be the next trillion-dollar companies.Amazon Source: Sundry Photography / Shutterstock.comWith a market cap of $970 billion, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is dangerously close to hitting $1 trillion. As the bot states:“As the company continues to expand into new markets, such as healthcare and advertising, and invest in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and robotics, it could potentially continue to grow and reach a $1 trillion valuation.”NextEra Energy Source: madamF / Shutterstock.comChatGPT clearly recognizes the power and potential of the renewable energy sector. NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) is one of the field’s leaders, with vast holdings and an impressive market share. ChatGPT definitely sees it as a great play among clean energy companies. As it states:“NextEra Energy is already one of the world’s largest producers of wind and solar power, and its focus on renewable energy and sustainability could help it continue to grow and reach a $1 trillion valuation.”Additionally, the company is ranked as a winner among dividend stocks and carries significant appeal for less risk-averse investors. All this bodes well for its future as a potential trillion-dollar winner.Moderna Source: Ascannio / Shutterstock.comModerna (NASDAQ:MRNA) enjoyed a race to the top during the Covid-19 vaccine rush, securing its place among pharmaceutical winners. Now, ChatGPT believes it has trillion-dollar potential due to its applications in healthcare technology. While the bot did not get specific in its reasoning, it provided the following breakdown:“Moderna is a biotechnology company that has gained significant attention and market value during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its successful development of an mRNA vaccine. As the company continues to develop and commercialize other mRNA-based treatments, it could potentially reach a $1 trillion valuation.”It’s also worth noting that ChatGPT considers MRNA to be a meme stock. When Rearick asked it for a list of the best meme stocks to buy, its top 10 picks included Moderna. That said, this categorization is likely due to 2021 data, as during that year the stock made many headlines.Nvidia Source: Hairem / Shutterstock.comIt’s not surprising that this AI standout would be ranked among future trillion-dollar winners. This time around, it provided a detailed breakdown of why it sees Nvidia reaching the same level:“Nvidia is a leading semiconductor and graphics processing unit (GPU) company that has been on a steady growth trajectory in recent years, with a current market capitalization of around $500 billion. There are several reasons why some analysts and investors believe that Nvidia has the potential to reach a $1 trillion valuation in the future.”These reasons included “dominance in the AI and data center markets,” “diversification into new markets,” and high investor confidence as well as impressive financials. Nvidia’s market cap is actually $586 billion, a reminder that ChatGPT’s data is limited to 2021 and earlier. However, the rest of the reasoning holds up.IlluminaSource: shutterstock.com/Romix ImageThis name isn’t as well-known as the other stocks that ChatGPT named as potential trillion-dollar winners. As it states:“Illumina is a leading company in the genomics and genetic testing space, providing genetic sequencing and analysis solutions to researchers, clinicians, and biotech companies. There are several factors that could contribute to the company’s growth potential.”The chatbot highlights the company’s history of innovation while also naming “increasing demand for genetic testing” and “expansion into new markets” as factors for why it sees so much potential, as well as its focus on partnerships and diversification of products.Tesla Source: Roschetzky Photography / Shutterstock.comIt’s no surprise that such a popular company would be on this list, especially after ChatGPT named electric and autonomous vehicles as a top opportunity. Per the bot:“Tesla is currently the largest automaker by market capitalization, with a market cap [near] $600 billion. As the company continues to expand its electric vehicle production and autonomous driving capabilities, it could potentially reach a $1 trillion valuation.”BlockSource: Sergei Elagin / Shutterstock.comConstantly hailed as a winner in the fintech space, Block (NYSE:SQ) has emerged as a mobile payments leader. Here’s what it told me about SQ stock:“[Block] has been on a steady growth trajectory since its founding in 2009 and has already reached a market capitalization of over $100 billion. With its focus on innovative financial solutions for small businesses, the company could potentially continue to grow and reach a $1 trillion valuation.”As a result of its difficult 2022, Block no longer boasts such a high market cap. As of this writing, it sits at $43 billion. If markets turn around in 2023, though, SQ could easily make up the ground it has lost.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":108,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9949455436,"gmtCreate":1678848231825,"gmtModify":1678848234879,"author":{"id":"3586990023332519","authorId":"3586990023332519","name":"StarGate","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9db084b2eae373a6cc56043329defb07","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Expect the unexpected? Vinh added that Google is likely using TPUs for Bard, based off conversations. However, the analyst noted there is not likely a \"significant operational cost advantage\" for using TPUs compared to GPUs.Earlier this month, Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) unveiled its Bard chatbot in a rushed response to the Microsoft (MSFT)-OpenAI deal, as well as an underwhelming event held in Paris showing off several AI-related updates that failed to impress analysts. In addition, there are cost concerns, with the estimated cost of running a ChatGPT query believed to be between 30 cents and $1, Vinh added, well below the cost of running a traditional Google search query, which he estimates at one hundredth of a cent. Other analysts have estimated Google spends roughly one-fifth of a cent on a search query.Nvidia's (NVDA) A100 GPU has an average selling price of approximately $10,000, while the H100, unveiled last March, has an ASP of around $25,000.As such, companies may look to keep costs for training large language models, or LLMs, as low as they can, using alternative chips, perhaps such as AMD's (AMD) MI300.In addition to AMD (AMD), Vinh added Broadcom (AVGO), Intel (INTC), Micron Technologies (MU) and Marvell Technologies (MRVL) are also likely to be beneficiaries of generative AI.Other companies may also look to eschew GPUs and focus on custom silicon to keep costs low, as Amazon (AMZN) has done with its Graviton ARM CPU and other ARM-based server projects. However, the pendulum may be swinging back in the direction of Nvidia (NVDA), Vinh suggested.\"[W]ith cloud providers increasing looking to cut Capex budgets, widespread layoffs in tech, and rising interest rates, there is increasing uncertainty in how aggressive these cloud projects will continue to be funded,\" Vinh explained. \"We believe these trends could mark a shift back toward higher usage of merchant silicon,\" while providing a benefit for companies like Nvidia (NVDA).Despite all the hype surrounding it, it is still early days for the rise of generative AI and its use cases beyond chatbots, Vinh noted. Nonetheless, \"there is increasing pressure for generative AI initiatives to significantly lower the cost disparity with search.\"For Nvidia (NVDA), the long-term total addressable market may be a \"sizable opportunity\" and with the company's continued advancements in AI, it's clear the company is focusing on the space as a way to drive growth.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":137,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9957064833,"gmtCreate":1676787201523,"gmtModify":1676787205214,"author":{"id":"3586990023332519","authorId":"3586990023332519","name":"StarGate","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9db084b2eae373a6cc56043329defb07","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow...do your homework b4 buy..ing","listText":"Wow...do your homework b4 buy..ing","text":"Wow...do your homework b4 buy..ing","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9957064833","repostId":"1150067923","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1150067923","pubTimestamp":1676779057,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1150067923?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2023-02-19 11:57","market":"other","language":"en","title":"I Asked ChatGPT for 10 Cryptos to Buy. The rise in popularity among AI image generators like Jasper and DeepAI last year were just the early stages of the much larger boom happening right now. Tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT have taken the world by storm, for better or for worse. Now, anybody can go to theChatGPT website(when it’s not at capacity) and ask it any question they want. I decided to ask it which cryptos to buy.

There’s a lot that goes into AI algorithms and programming, so much so that it soars over the head of the layman. It’s these seemingly-unending layers of engineering that allow us to prompt the tool to fix our code, write us stories or explain complex subjects to us. In making investment decisions, the tool works no differently.

I recently logged onto ChatGPT and asked it to recommend me 10 cryptos to buy based on growth potential. This is the list it gave me:

Ethereum(ETH-USD)

Solana(SOL-USD)

Polkadot(DOT-USD)

Avalanche(AVAX-USD)

Cosmos(ATOM-USD)

Chainlink(LINK-USD)

Algorand(ALGO-USD)

Polygon(MATIC-USD)

Terra(LUNA-USD)

Binance Coin(BNB-USD)

ChatGPT Explains Its “Cryptos to Buy” Methodology

ChatGPT’s recommended list of cryptos to buy is pretty interesting. I asked it to explain its methodology a bit, and was surprised to find that the tool utilizes both qualitative and quantitative data in weighing its opinions.

Unsurprisingly, the first thing ChatGPT used to make its recommendation was quantitative chart analysis — a favorite methodology used by crypto die-hards far and wide:

“I selected the top 10 cryptocurrencies with the highest market capitalizations, which are generally considered to be the most established and widely adopted cryptocurrencies in the market. From there, I considered their historical performance, looking at factors such as price trends, trading volume and market share to identify which cryptocurrencies have demonstrated strong growth potential over time.”

What was more interesting was ChatGPT’s use of qualitative data in weighing its picks. The AI says it analyzes each products’ “underlying technology, use cases, adoption and regulatory environment” in making its selections.

ChatGPT Defends Its Picks for Cryptos to Buy

This holistic approach to crypto analysis ensures the AI makes recommendations based less on price momentum and more on strong fundamentals. However, seeing some interesting inclusions (and one very noticeable exclusion), I felt the need to press it more.

Why Terra? The project has seen complete and utter failure at the hands of poor management in the last year, and its founder has been on the run from the law ever since the original project imploded and bankrupted several companies. ChatGPT admits it could be a lack of information which prompted the pick; indeed, if the tool had data on the project since its mid-May collapse, it would likely have better judgement than to pick a project many consider flawed and unwanted by the community at-large.

And, of course, why is there no Bitcoin(BTC-USD)? It’s the largest of cryptos, easily the most recognizable and the one which prompted the crypto movement in the first place. It appears that from both quantitative and qualitative standpoints, ChatGPT remains skeptical of Bitcoin’s future:

“While [Bitcoin] may continue to grow over time, it may not experience the same level of growth as some of the newer cryptocurrencies that are still in the early stages of development. Additionally, Bitcoin’s use case is primarily as a store of value and a digital currency, whereas some of the other cryptocurrencies that I recommended have more specific use cases and potential for growth in specific industries or markets.”

Who Does ChatGPT Expect to Win the Layer-1 Race?

As for the rest of the list of cryptos to buy, investors might be impressed by ChatGPT’s crypto picking abilities. Lots of the other cryptos recommended are wildly popular projects, and they all have great potential for growth. One thing to note is that seven of the ten are primarily layer-1 dapp networks. Binance hosts a BNB Chain alongside its exchange platform, making for a total of eight.

With this in mind, I was interested in hearing ChatGPT’s take on the battle between layer-1 networks to compete with and potentially overtake Ethereum. It positions Solana, Polkadot and Avalanche as three of the most likely projects to surpass Ethereum in the coming years.

Solana, it says, has an edge due to its low cost and high scalability, but notes a downside in its “proof of history” consensus mechanism being nascent and untested as opposed to proof of stake. Meanwhile, the AI praises Polkadot’s interoperability, but acknowledges the project’s governance structure “could lead to potential centralization issues in the future.”

Regarding Avalanche, the program speaks highly of its own unique consensus. But, it acknowledges the drawback that like Solana, it is unproven, and like Polkadot, it could lead to higher centralization.

In all, the AI provides some very nuanced takes on each project. I am quite impressed by the depth at which ChatGPT analyzes these investments, and many other investors likely feel the same. However, the drawbacks are quite clear, as it seems to lack the most up-to-date information on each project. In a market where news moves exceptionally fast and projects can soar or tank in minutes, this is a major fault line in the tool.

For this, the AI is very careful to respond to each question with the ever-popular crypto catchphrase of “do your own research.” For example, it stated, “Conduct your own research and consider all available information, including any potential risks and challenges, before making any investment decisions.” When pressed on whether or not asking the tool these questions was doing my own research, it pointed me to speak with investing professionals before buying any of its recommendations.

What Does ChatGPT See for the Future of Crypto?

Obviously, ChatGPT has a robust set of data on the cryptocurrency world. And, it can pick from this pool of data to give some insightful opinions on individual projects. Before logging off to free up capacity for other curious users, I had to hear the AI’s predictions for the future of crypto.

The model assumes a fairly positive outlook for the crypto market in 2023. It predicts an overall-bullish trajectory for the industry, primarily due to the increasing adoption of crypto and blockchain technology by institutions. “We have seen more and more companies and financial institutions embrace cryptocurrencies as a legitimate asset class, and this trend is expected to continue.” It also gives credit to the increasing functionality of new projects as a reason to believe more investors will enter into the space.

Moreover, the model has a more optimistic take on regulations than many may care to admit. Indeed, while the Securities & Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the European Union and countless others crack down on projects, the AI argues this is good news. It says these regulators are “providing greater clarity and legitimacy to the market, which could in turn drive increased adoption.” This, it contends, would then put pressure on regulators to provide clearer guidance to facilitate the entry of more projects onto the market.

","source":"investorplace","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
I Asked ChatGPT for 10 Cryptos to Buy. Alden/Bloomberg

For some investors, this year’s rout in high-flying technology stocks is more than a bear market: It’s the end of an era for a handful of giant companies such as Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. and Amazon.com Inc.

Those companies — known along with Apple Inc., Netflix Inc. and Google parent Alphabet Inc. as the FAANGs — led the move to a digital world and helped power a 13-year bull run.

But history shows that market leaders of one era almost never dominate the next one. There are early signs that a shift is already under way: Growth has slowed or evaporated for Netflix and Meta, while the sheer size of Amazon, Apple and Alphabet means they’re unlikely to provide the huge returns in the future that they did in the past.

“We think it is unlikely the FAANG will lead the next tech bull cycle,” Richard Clode, a portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors, said by phone, adding that he has reduced his holdings of those stocks “very materially.” “We are at our lowest exposure to FAANG that we’ve been since the acronym was created.”

If it is indeed the end of the cycle for these companies, what an ending it’s been.

The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020 rocked the whole stock market, but after a blink-and-you-missed-it plunge, indexes came roaring back. Large-capitalization technology stocks including the FAANGs led the way as locked-down consumers ordered goods from Amazon, subscribed to Netflix to watch “Tiger King,” and spent hours scrolling through Facebook and searching on Google using iPhones.

But investors are reassessing their longer-term potential now that societies have reopened and higher interest rates around the world have damped risk appetites.

One of the biggest draws for investors has been the super-charged growth rates that technology companies offered. Now the growth looks more pedestrian.

“Superior” sales growth, the characteristic most associated with large-cap tech stocks, has vanished, at least for this year, Goldman Sachs strategists wrote in November. The bank’s strategists predict sales growth of 8% for megacap tech stocks in 2022, below the 13% growth expected for the broader S&P 500 Index.

While Goldman does expect tech companies to deliver faster sales growth than the benchmark next year and in 2024, the gap is much smaller than the average of the past decade, the firm said.

“It’s very hard to grow those mega-revenues at very, very high growth rates the way that they did historically,”said Michael Nell, senior investment analyst and portfolio manager at UBS Asset Management. “While the megacap stocks have held up well, going forward it’s hard to see that they are necessarily going to drive performance from here.”

Meta shares shed a quarter of their value in one day in October after the Facebook owner’s sales forecast for the fourth quarter came in at the low end of analysts’ expectations amid a slowdown in the advertising market. Amazon.com slumped 7% a day later after projecting the slowest holiday-quarter growth in the firm’s history.

The example of past stock-market stars is sobering. Cisco Systems Inc. and Intel Corp., leaders in the dot-com boom of the late 1990s, have never climbed back to the highs they reached in 2000, while it took the Nasdaq 100 Index 15 years to surpass its 2000 peak.

Apple, the world’s largest company with a $2.3 trillion market value, has held up the best in this year’s bear market, falling 20%. The stock has been bolstered by the company’s cash pile of about $170 billion, marketable securities and demand for its latest iPhones.

The other stocks in the FAANG group have fallen more, ranging from Alphabet’s 36% drop to the 66% plunge of Meta. Even with the declines, the group still accounts for more than 10% of the S&P 500 weighting, so subpar performance in coming years will be a big drag on the market.

And the pain in technology stocks looks set to continue next year. Analysts see profits for the industry contracting by 1.8% next year, compared with expected growth of 2.7% for the broader US market, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence.

Faced with a higher cost of borrowing and rising inflation, investors are becoming more exacting in terms of which companies they are willing to back. Big capital projects on unproven technologies, such as Meta’s bet on the metaverse, haven’t gone down well. A basket of money-losing tech stocks compiled by Goldman has plunged nearly 60% this year.

“The market’s telling them we want some near-term profitability and we can’t afford to fund all of your negative free cash flow. Get a bit more realistic: grow a little bit slower, but do it profitably,” said Neil Robson, head of global equities at Columbia Threadneedle Investments.

Robson is still overweight technology in his portfolios, though by a smaller amount than in the past. He still owns Amazon and Alphabet, though he’s also investing in companies that improve energy efficiency. UBS Asset Management’s Nell is finding opportunities in the software-as-a-service space and semiconductor stocks, while Janus Henderson’s Clode is looking toward energy, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, and at areas that could prove resilient in a recession, such as software firms that could help with productivity.

“Two years ago we could have thrown a dart at a FAANG dart board and we would’ve pretty much come up a winner, right?” said Dan Morgan, a senior portfolio manager at Synovus Trust Co. “Do we just blindly throw money into an ETF which just buys nothing but FAANG? That’s probably not going to work anymore.”

","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Investors Call Time on FAANG Stock Dominance After Nasdaq’s Rout
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nInvestors Call Time on FAANG Stock Dominance After Nasdaq’s Rout\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-12-11 08:50 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Investors scale back bets on megacap stocks as growth softensProfitability is key priority for investors as economy slowsPhotographer: Jason Alden/BloombergFor some investors, this year’s rout in high...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".DJI":"道琼斯",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite","AAPL":"苹果","NFLX":"奈飞","META":"Meta Platforms",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index","GOOG":"谷歌","GOOGL":"谷歌A","AMZN":"亚马逊","MSFT":"微软"},"source_url":"https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-10/investors-call-time-on-faang-stock-dominance-after-nasdaq-s-rout?srnd=premium-asia","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2290292051","content_text":"Investors scale back bets on megacap stocks as growth softensProfitability is key priority for investors as economy slowsPhotographer: Jason Alden/BloombergFor some investors, this year’s rout in high-flying technology stocks is more than a bear market: It’s the end of an era for a handful of giant companies such as Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. and Amazon.com Inc.Those companies — known along with Apple Inc., Netflix Inc. and Google parent Alphabet Inc. as the FAANGs — led the move to a digital world and helped power a 13-year bull run.But history shows that market leaders of one era almost never dominate the next one. Analysts see profits for the industry contracting by 1.8% next year, compared with expected growth of 2.7% for the broader US market, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence.Faced with a higher cost of borrowing and rising inflation, investors are becoming more exacting in terms of which companies they are willing to back. Big capital projects on unproven technologies, such as Meta’s bet on the metaverse, haven’t gone down well. A basket of money-losing tech stocks compiled by Goldman has plunged nearly 60% this year.“The market’s telling them we want some near-term profitability and we can’t afford to fund all of your negative free cash flow. Get a bit more realistic: grow a little bit slower, but do it profitably,” said Neil Robson, head of global equities at Columbia Threadneedle Investments.Robson is still overweight technology in his portfolios, though by a smaller amount than in the past. He still owns Amazon and Alphabet, though he’s also investing in companies that improve energy efficiency. UBS Asset Management’s Nell is finding opportunities in the software-as-a-service space and semiconductor stocks, while Janus Henderson’s Clode is looking toward energy, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, and at areas that could prove resilient in a recession, such as software firms that could help with productivity.“Two years ago we could have thrown a dart at a FAANG dart board and we would’ve pretty much come up a winner, right?” said Dan Morgan, a senior portfolio manager at Synovus Trust Co. “Do we just blindly throw money into an ETF which just buys nothing but FAANG? That’s probably not going to work anymore.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":187,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9923076856,"gmtCreate":1670768082576,"gmtModify":1676538430090,"author":{"id":"3586990023332519","authorId":"3586990023332519","name":"StarGate","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9db084b2eae373a6cc56043329defb07","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9923076856","repostId":"2290296478","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2290296478","pubTimestamp":1670725091,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2290296478?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-12-11 10:18","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Stocks Down 19% to 51% to Buy Right Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2290296478","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Tesla and UPS shares could fall further, but they are compelling long-term buys.","content":"

The stock market is on track to post its worst year since 2008. The company is the undisputed leader in a sector that is expected to continue to grow for years to come. And just as there are various reasons the stock has dropped so much, there are several good reasons to buy shares now.

Tesla is on pace to produce about 1.4 million electric vehicles (EVs) this year, and the company says it expects to grow that at a 50% annual rate for several more years. Its two newest factories are just beginning to ramp up, and more will be announced. Global passenger car sales are expected to be about 85 million in 2023. Not all global sales will transition to electric power, of course, but the opportunity is still massive for Tesla and its EV competitors.

Tesla has a first-mover advantage that it has molded into a cash machine. Even with its growth investments, Tesla has generated more than $6 billion in free cash flow over the first nine months of 2022. At the end of the third quarter, it had more than $21 billion in cash and marketable securities.

The company intends to begin shipping its Semi heavy truck next month and the Cybertruck next year. It hopes to maintain its advantage over competitors with some in-house battery production and possibly some lithium refining. It also has a growing energy business that contributed 5% of total revenue in the third quarter.

The slide in Tesla's stock price came amid a broadly declining market but also due to some company-specific reasons. CEO Elon Musk sold about $19 billion worth of his Tesla stock this year related to his acquisition of Twitter, which investors also see as a distraction. And the recent price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio was still above 50 on a trailing-12-month basis.

But share prices are as low as they have been since late 2020, and growth is expected to continue at its recent pace. For those investing for a retirement that's years away, now is a good time to buy Tesla stock.

A high-quality business you can count on

Daniel Foelber (UPS): Like Tesla, UPS is performing well. But its stock has taken a hit and is down 17% year to date and 23% from its all-time high. Broader market volatility and recession fears have given investors a chance to buy UPS at a good price. However, the stock could face more pressure in the short term.

It's no secret that UPS is a cyclical company. Automakers like Tesla do better when consumer spending is high and interest rates are low. UPS is similar in that it benefits from a bustling economy with high consumer spending and high order volumes for businesses and freight companies. A slowing economy usually coincides with lower package delivery volumes.

Despite these headwinds, UPS' results indicate that its services command a premium price. The company has done a masterful job of offsetting inflation-related costs with price hikes. Years of investment in expanded routes, tools for small and medium-sized businesses, and the company's healthcare segment have also paid off. UPS is on track to deliver record revenue and a high operating margin for full-year 2022.

Given its size and industry position, UPS can only pivot so much when the economic cycle shifts. Instead, its objective is to capitalize on longer-term trends. Even if growth slows, UPS has positioned itself to continue taking market share from the competition in the decades to come.

UPS has a dividend yield of 3.5%, which is another attractive incentive for long-term investors.

Zoom out and focus on the big picture

Tesla and UPS might be in completely different industries, but the two companies share many similarities regarding their investment theses.

Each company sports an industry-leading operating margin, which indicates a well-run business that can absorb a hit to profitability in a recession. Tesla is a far more expensive stock than UPS, but the company is also growing at a torrid rate. Meanwhile, UPS is a compelling value, with a price-to-earnings ratio of just 14.3 and a sizable dividend yield.

Tesla and UPS are both susceptible to a slew of industry challenges and a weakening global economy. But they are also excellent businesses that could very well extend their lead over the competition during a downturn in the business cycle thanks to their healthy balance sheets and market position.

Overall, Tesla might appeal to investors with higher risk tolerance.
