Four such shares represent one class A ordinary share.&nbsp;The company announced on Wednesday morning that it had increased the size of the deal; it had planned on offering 288 million shares.</p>\n<p>At $14 a share, Didi would have a $67 billion market capitalization. On a fully diluted basis, Didi’s valuation rises to about $73 billion</p>\n<p>The Beijing company has raised $4 billion in the offering. The shares will start trading on Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DIDI.</p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan are the underwriters on the Didi offering.</p>\n<p>Didi provides a smartphone app that lets users connect with vehicles and taxis for hire. Founded in 2012, it operates in nearly 4,000 cities, counties, and towns across 16 countries,its prospectus said. It had more than 493 million annual active users as of March 31.</p>\n<p><b>Its relationship with Uber is complicated</b></p>\n<p>Comparisons between the world’s top two ride-hailing companies could become more frequent as Didi goes public in the United States.</p>\n<p>In its filing, Didi said it has hundreds of millions of riders in China and operates in 16 countries and nearly 4,000 cities. Besides ride hailing, its new services include intra-city freight, community group buying and food delivery.</p>\n<p>In its 2020 annual report, San Francisco-based Uber said that as of Dec. 31, 2020, it operated in 71 countries and about 10,000 cities. Uber offers rides, delivery and freight. Although it&nbsp;unloaded its autonomous-vehicle business&nbsp;last year, it has a partnership with self-driving company Aurora Technologies.</p>\n<p>One thing Didi has in common with Uber (and smaller rival Lyft) is that it has also been mostly unprofitable. But it did turn a profit in the first quarter, reporting net income of 5.49 billion rembini ($837 million) on revenue of RMB 42.16 billion ($6.44 billion), up from a loss of RMB 3.97 billion on sales of RMB 20.47 billion the year before. That profit was largely due to its investments.</p>\n<p>After a battle in which Didi and Uber lost a lot of money as they tried to undercut each other in China, Uber sold its Chinese business to Didi for $7 billion in 2016. Uber’s CEO at the time, Travis Kalanick, wrote in a blog post announcing the deal: “Uber and Didi Chuxing are investing billions of dollars in China and both companies have yet to turn a profit there.”</p>\n<p>Uber retained a 12.8% stake in Didi, though, which will be reduced to a 12% stake after the IPO. That’s the second-largest stake in the company behind SoftBank Group’s 21.5% in equity ahead of the IPO. At the midpoint of Didi’s expected selling price, the number of shares Uber holds could be worth about $1.94 billion.</p>\n<p>Didi sold all the shares it held in Uber last year for a gain of RMB 2.8 million ($427,417), according to its filing.</p>\n<p><b>Insiders will have control</b></p>\n<p>Following the trend of many recent IPOs, especially in the tech world, Didi will have a dual-class stock structure. Each Class A share (equal to four ADS) will have one vote, and each Class B share will have 10 votes.</p>\n<p>Founder and Chief Executive Will Wei Cheng, co-founder and President Jean Qing Liu and CEO of the international business group Stephen Jingshi Zhu, who all sit on the board, will own all issued and outstanding Class&nbsp;B ordinary shares. These shares will comprise 9.8% of the company’s total issued shares and 52% of the voting power immediately after the public offering.</p>\n<p>Cheng, 38, is also the chairman of the board. The former Alibaba and Alipay manager will have 6.5% equity in the company but 35.5% of the voting power after the IPO.</p>\n<p>Cheng brought on Liu two years after he founded Didi. She will have 1.6% equity in the company after the offering.</p>\n<p>The other top stakeholder in Didi besides its top executives, SoftBank and Uber is Tencent Holdings, which will have a 6.4% stake post-IPO.</p>\n<p><b>‘Darkest days’</b></p>\n<p>In summer 2018, two female passengers&nbsp;were killed&nbsp;by drivers on Didi’s Hitch platform. “These shook us to our core,” Cheng and Liu wrote in their founders’ letter under a section they called “Our darkest days.”</p>\n<p>They said the company changed how it onboarded drivers and expanded background checks, as well as redesigned its technology with safety in mind. Didi also established what it calls a “SWAT team” to respond to safety incidents. In places where it is allowed, the company has installed video cameras in its ride-hailing vehicles.</p>\n<p>The changes led to what the company said was “a massive drop in the number of criminal incidents per million rides on our platform as well as significant declines in the number of in-car disputes and traffic accidents.”</p>\n<p>The company says that although the number of incidents have gone down, safety remains a risk factor.</p>\n<p><b>Risk factors</b></p>\n<p>Other big risk factors for the company include the Chinese government’s recently stepped-up&nbsp;antitrust crackdown on tech companies, including Didi. In its filing, Didi said that while it has completed a self-inspection and has tried to correct or improve in certain areas, it can’t be sure the government will be satisfied with that.</p>\n<p>The company also said government regulators are concerned about driver income, pricing, and fairness to all platform participants, including riders and drivers. Like its biggest competitors, Didi treats its drivers as independent contractors, not employees. “Our business would be adversely affected if drivers were classified as employees, workers or quasi-employees,” Didi said in its filing.</p>\n<p>As for how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and continues to affect Didi’s business, the company said its core platform’s gross transaction value fell 4.8% in 2020 compared with 2019. In China, its mobility business’ GTV decreased 6.6% in the same period, while international GTV actually rose 11.4%. Didi cited increasing coronavirus cases in certain parts of the world as continuing risk factors.</p>\n<p><b>Other businesses</b></p>\n<p>Didi says it has the world’s largest network of electric vehicles on its platform: 1 million, including hybrids, as of the end of last year. Those EVs account for nearly 40% of the electric vehicle miles traveled in China, the company said, citing a study it commissioned. Didi has designed an EV itself, called the D1. It also says it has built China’s largest charging network, with more than 30% market share of total public charging volume in the first quarter of 2021.</p>\n<p>As for autonomous vehicles, Didi says it has a team of more than 500 members working on Level 4 AVs for its fleet. Four such shares represent one class A ordinary share.&nbsp;The company announced on Wednesday morning that it had increased the size of the deal; it had planned on offering 288 million shares.</p>\n<p>At $14 a share, Didi would have a $67 billion market capitalization. On a fully diluted basis, Didi’s valuation rises to about $73 billion</p>\n<p>The Beijing company has raised $4 billion in the offering. The shares will start trading on Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DIDI.</p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan are the underwriters on the Didi offering.</p>\n<p>Didi provides a smartphone app that lets users connect with vehicles and taxis for hire. Founded in 2012, it operates in nearly 4,000 cities, counties, and towns across 16 countries,its prospectus said. It had more than 493 million annual active users as of March 31.</p>\n<p><b>Its relationship with Uber is complicated</b></p>\n<p>Comparisons between the world’s top two ride-hailing companies could become more frequent as Didi goes public in the United States.</p>\n<p>In its filing, Didi said it has hundreds of millions of riders in China and operates in 16 countries and nearly 4,000 cities. Besides ride hailing, its new services include intra-city freight, community group buying and food delivery.</p>\n<p>In its 2020 annual report, San Francisco-based Uber said that as of Dec. 31, 2020, it operated in 71 countries and about 10,000 cities. Uber offers rides, delivery and freight. Although it&nbsp;unloaded its autonomous-vehicle business&nbsp;last year, it has a partnership with self-driving company Aurora Technologies.</p>\n<p>One thing Didi has in common with Uber (and smaller rival Lyft) is that it has also been mostly unprofitable. But it did turn a profit in the first quarter, reporting net income of 5.49 billion rembini ($837 million) on revenue of RMB 42.16 billion ($6.44 billion), up from a loss of RMB 3.97 billion on sales of RMB 20.47 billion the year before. That profit was largely due to its investments.</p>\n<p>After a battle in which Didi and Uber lost a lot of money as they tried to undercut each other in China, Uber sold its Chinese business to Didi for $7 billion in 2016. Uber’s CEO at the time, Travis Kalanick, wrote in a blog post announcing the deal: “Uber and Didi Chuxing are investing billions of dollars in China and both companies have yet to turn a profit there.”</p>\n<p>Uber retained a 12.8% stake in Didi, though, which will be reduced to a 12% stake after the IPO. That’s the second-largest stake in the company behind SoftBank Group’s 21.5% in equity ahead of the IPO. At the midpoint of Didi’s expected selling price, the number of shares Uber holds could be worth about $1.94 billion.</p>\n<p>Didi sold all the shares it held in Uber last year for a gain of RMB 2.8 million ($427,417), according to its filing.</p>\n<p><b>Insiders will have control</b></p>\n<p>Following the trend of many recent IPOs, especially in the tech world, Didi will have a dual-class stock structure. Each Class A share (equal to four ADS) will have one vote, and each Class B share will have 10 votes.</p>\n<p>Founder and Chief Executive Will Wei Cheng, co-founder and President Jean Qing Liu and CEO of the international business group Stephen Jingshi Zhu, who all sit on the board, will own all issued and outstanding Class&nbsp;B ordinary shares. These shares will comprise 9.8% of the company’s total issued shares and 52% of the voting power immediately after the public offering.</p>\n<p>Cheng, 38, is also the chairman of the board. The former Alibaba and Alipay manager will have 6.5% equity in the company but 35.5% of the voting power after the IPO.</p>\n<p>Cheng brought on Liu two years after he founded Didi. She will have 1.6% equity in the company after the offering.</p>\n<p>The other top stakeholder in Didi besides its top executives, SoftBank and Uber is Tencent Holdings, which will have a 6.4% stake post-IPO.</p>\n<p><b>‘Darkest days’</b></p>\n<p>In summer 2018, two female passengers&nbsp;were killed&nbsp;by drivers on Didi’s Hitch platform. “These shook us to our core,” Cheng and Liu wrote in their founders’ letter under a section they called “Our darkest days.”</p>\n<p>They said the company changed how it onboarded drivers and expanded background checks, as well as redesigned its technology with safety in mind. Didi also established what it calls a “SWAT team” to respond to safety incidents. In places where it is allowed, the company has installed video cameras in its ride-hailing vehicles.</p>\n<p>The changes led to what the company said was “a massive drop in the number of criminal incidents per million rides on our platform as well as significant declines in the number of in-car disputes and traffic accidents.”</p>\n<p>The company says that although the number of incidents have gone down, safety remains a risk factor.</p>\n<p><b>Risk factors</b></p>\n<p>Other big risk factors for the company include the Chinese government’s recently stepped-up&nbsp;antitrust crackdown on tech companies, including Didi. In its filing, Didi said that while it has completed a self-inspection and has tried to correct or improve in certain areas, it can’t be sure the government will be satisfied with that.</p>\n<p>The company also said government regulators are concerned about driver income, pricing, and fairness to all platform participants, including riders and drivers. Like its biggest competitors, Didi treats its drivers as independent contractors, not employees. “Our business would be adversely affected if drivers were classified as employees, workers or quasi-employees,” Didi said in its filing.</p>\n<p>As for how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and continues to affect Didi’s business, the company said its core platform’s gross transaction value fell 4.8% in 2020 compared with 2019. In China, its mobility business’ GTV decreased 6.6% in the same period, while international GTV actually rose 11.4%. A stock&#39;s share value is proportional to its contribution to the index, in contrast to the market capitalization-weighted S&amp;P 500.</p><p>Goldman Sachs posted its biggest one-day percentage drop since a year ago in January.</p><p>Also weighing on the blue-chip Dow index was insurer Travelers Cos Inc, which fell 4.60% after forecasting fourth-quarter earnings below estimates.</p><p>But a 7.43% jump in Tesla helped keep the Nasdaq afloat after recent price cuts the company made on its top-selling models, data from China Merchants Bank International showed.</p><p>Tesla was the largest percentage gainer on both the S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq 100.</p><p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 391.76 points, or 1.14%, to 33,910.85 and the S&amp;P 500 lost 8.12 points, or 0.20%, to 3,990.97. Although I’d like to highlight that the management has explicitly stated that growth can reaccelerate after attaining profitability and that they have a sufficient cash reserve to pay off the convertible notes sitting on the balance sheet.</p><h3>Garena<img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ab8fe0ed7909a98b7fdf0b930bc362df\" tg-width=\"1200\" tg-height=\"742\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h3><p>SE 10-Q</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8386bb1c95c3d5300e1fe0f371528199\" tg-width=\"1200\" tg-height=\"742\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>SE 10-Q</p><p>Garena’s QAU and QPU continued to decline sequentially, as the management’s anticipation of its user base stabilizing did not materialize. The macro headwinds continue to be a headache, and it seems that there is more uncertainty lying ahead for Garena Free Fire. The key forward is to focus on launching new games, with games such asPrimitive EraandBlack Clover Mobilelaunching recently. While this indicates that management is working hard to reaccelerate Garena’s growth, it is important to recognize that the success of games is not guaranteed, and this is the bigger uncertainty for the business. This is a result of management pulling back on its sales and marketing (“S&amp;M”) expenses, exiting multiple markets, cutting costs aggressively (such as hiring), and lastly, the lower consumer discretionary spending. This is in contrast to Lazada (NYSE: BABA), as the number oforders declined Y/Yand they are also prioritizing profitability through increased monetization.</p><p>While this does show that consumers continue to spend on Shopee in SEA, its GMV and number of orders are partially contributed by Shopee Brazil. In a tough macro environment, Shopee experienced a 36% Y/Y growth in the number of brands on the platform, indicating that Shopee is an increasingly important partner in growing its online revenue.<img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e09e1e030c482f41afaf8695896f9ec\" tg-width=\"1200\" tg-height=\"742\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>SE 10-Q</p><p>The more important portion is Shopee’s improvement in profitability. Its overall adjusted EBITDA loss per order continues to improve by 23.5% sequentially, and more specifically, Shopee Brazil’s loss per order improved by 27.5% sequentially during the quarter as compared to 6.6% in the last quarter. Moreover, Shopee is expected to attain profitability by FY23 instead of FY25 as previously guided by the management. This goes to show that the management has made great strides in pursuing profitability, which is impressive in my view. Once it attained self-sufficiency, growth can reaccelerate, although, the management is expecting flat or negative growth in certain metrics in the near term.</p><h3>SeaBank</h3><p><i>Note that I will be using “SeaBank” and “SeaMoney” interchangeably.</i></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0f0cb77d6ac22f50a1208eaf075db51c\" tg-width=\"1200\" tg-height=\"742\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>SE 10-Q</p><p>SeaMoney’s loan receivables grew 46% from 4Q21 and 110% from 3Q21 to $2.2 billion. These are loans provided to customers whereby SeaMoney generates revenue by charging interest rates, and it has been growing quickly. In myprevious article, I showed that in Sep 2022, SeaBank Indonesia grew its loans and customer deposits by 111% Y/Y and 147% Y/Y, respectively, and the launch of ShopeePay in Brazil. During the earnings call, management stated that the credit business is profitable and cash flow positive, and it will be focusing on growing this business in Southeast Asia (“SEA”) and Brazil.</p><p>Additionally, they have also said to diversify their source of funding for the credit business, which I believe is to seek third-party financing partners to reduce the capital required for the business and at the same time, reduce credit risk. Similar to Bank Jago (IDX: ARTO), SeaBank may utilize the data of its partners to help improve the non-performing loans and scale its lending. Management had also been deliberate in cutting down on S&amp;M expenses and combined with its acceleration revenue growth, its adjusted EBITDA margin has improved massively to -20.7% during the quarter. This is compared to -40% in 2Q22 and -120.3% a year ago.</p><h3>Sufficient Cash Reserves To Pay off Convertible Notes<img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4ff585449530fce4084e7d1447e077b4\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"798\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h3><p>SE 10-Q</p><p>One of the biggest concerns about Sea Limited for investors is the cash burn rate, as they fear that the company does not have enough sufficient cash reserves to pay off convertible notes maturing in 2026. However, not only did the cash outflow slow in Q3 2022, but the management has also hinted that there are sufficient cash reserves to pay off the convertible notes:</p><blockquote>“We aim to continue to maintain a net cash position, after budgeting for the full retirement in cash of outstanding convertible bonds and assuming no external funding.”</blockquote><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>Overall, this was a pretty decent quarter for Sea Limited, as we could see that they had made huge improvements on the road to profitability, particularly for Shopee. While that comes at a growth trade-off, management has indicated that Shopee can reaccelerate its growth after attaining profitability in FY23, which is pulled forward from FY25 as guided previously.</p><p>Garena&#39;s results continue to be a concern as macro seems to have a longer-than-expected impact on its user base and its profitability as a result has been trending downwards over the past couple of quarters. Management has been working hard on its gaming pipelines, although the uncertainty lies in the successes of these new games and whether they could reaccelerate their growth in the future.</p><p>SeaBank has been growing its top line really quickly and huge improvements were made on the bottom line as well. Furthermore, the overall credit business is profitable and is generating positive cash flow, and has been increasingly making up a larger proportion of its total revenue. Its revenue now makes up 10.4% of its overall revenue.Execution has been on point in attaining profitability although that resulted in declining growth in FY22. Management believes growth can reaccelerate once it achieves profitability.Sea Limited has sufficient cash reserves to pay off the convertible notes.Investment ThesisSea Limited has come under much scrutiny in the past 2 years as the shift in focus from growth to profitability and macro headwinds have led to a massive growth decline across itsShopee and Garena units. While this is unfortunate, management has executed brilliantly so far to turn the company into an increasingly self-sufficient business in the near term.In this article, I attempt to dive deeper into itsQ3 2022 resultand provide an overall analysis of the earnings. Although I’d like to highlight that the management has explicitly stated that growth can reaccelerate after attaining profitability and that they have a sufficient cash reserve to pay off the convertible notes sitting on the balance sheet.GarenaSE 10-QSE 10-QGarena’s QAU and QPU continued to decline sequentially, as the management’s anticipation of its user base stabilizing did not materialize. The macro headwinds continue to be a headache, and it seems that there is more uncertainty lying ahead for Garena Free Fire. The key forward is to focus on launching new games, with games such asPrimitive EraandBlack Clover Mobilelaunching recently. While this indicates that management is working hard to reaccelerate Garena’s growth, it is important to recognize that the success of games is not guaranteed, and this is the bigger uncertainty for the business. As a result, this caused its adjusted EBITDA margin to further decline to 32.5% during the quarter.Additionally, management states that the expiry of the agreement with Riot Games will have no impact on Garena’s publishing business, and Garena is seeking other top-game developers for their publishing business.ShopeeSE 10-QSE 10-QShopee’s GMV grew 14% Y/Y and the number of orders grew 18% Y/Y, a continuous decline in the past couple of quarters. This is a result of management pulling back on its sales and marketing (“S&M”) expenses, exiting multiple markets, cutting costs aggressively (such as hiring), and lastly, the lower consumer discretionary spending. This is in contrast to Lazada (NYSE: BABA), as the number oforders declined Y/Yand they are also prioritizing profitability through increased monetization.While this does show that consumers continue to spend on Shopee in SEA, its GMV and number of orders are partially contributed by Shopee Brazil. In a tough macro environment, Shopee experienced a 36% Y/Y growth in the number of brands on the platform, indicating that Shopee is an increasingly important partner in growing its online revenue.SE 10-QThe more important portion is Shopee’s improvement in profitability. Its overall adjusted EBITDA loss per order continues to improve by 23.5% sequentially, and more specifically, Shopee Brazil’s loss per order improved by 27.5% sequentially during the quarter as compared to 6.6% in the last quarter. Moreover, Shopee is expected to attain profitability by FY23 instead of FY25 as previously guided by the management. This goes to show that the management has made great strides in pursuing profitability, which is impressive in my view. Once it attained self-sufficiency, growth can reaccelerate, although, the management is expecting flat or negative growth in certain metrics in the near term.SeaBankNote that I will be using “SeaBank” and “SeaMoney” interchangeably.SE 10-QSeaMoney’s loan receivables grew 46% from 4Q21 and 110% from 3Q21 to $2.2 billion. These are loans provided to customers whereby SeaMoney generates revenue by charging interest rates, and it has been growing quickly. In myprevious article, I showed that in Sep 2022, SeaBank Indonesia grew its loans and customer deposits by 111% Y/Y and 147% Y/Y, respectively, and the launch of ShopeePay in Brazil. During the earnings call, management stated that the credit business is profitable and cash flow positive, and it will be focusing on growing this business in Southeast Asia (“SEA”) and Brazil.Additionally, they have also said to diversify their source of funding for the credit business, which I believe is to seek third-party financing partners to reduce the capital required for the business and at the same time, reduce credit risk. Similar to Bank Jago (IDX: ARTO), SeaBank may utilize the data of its partners to help improve the non-performing loans and scale its lending. Readers who are unaware of SeaBank’s business model can head to mydeep diveinto the company.SE 10-QSE 10-QSE 10-QAs a result of its growing deposits and loan books, its Q3 2022 revenue grew 147% Y/Y, and it has been increasingly making up a bigger portion of its overall revenue at 10.4% this quarter. Management had also been deliberate in cutting down on S&M expenses and combined with its acceleration revenue growth, its adjusted EBITDA margin has improved massively to -20.7% during the quarter. This is compared to -40% in 2Q22 and -120.3% a year ago.Sufficient Cash Reserves To Pay off Convertible NotesSE 10-QOne of the biggest concerns about Sea Limited for investors is the cash burn rate, as they fear that the company does not have enough sufficient cash reserves to pay off convertible notes maturing in 2026. However, not only did the cash outflow slow in Q3 2022, but the management has also hinted that there are sufficient cash reserves to pay off the convertible notes:“We aim to continue to maintain a net cash position, after budgeting for the full retirement in cash of outstanding convertible bonds and assuming no external funding.”ConclusionOverall, this was a pretty decent quarter for Sea Limited, as we could see that they had made huge improvements on the road to profitability, particularly for Shopee. While that comes at a growth trade-off, management has indicated that Shopee can reaccelerate its growth after attaining profitability in FY23, which is pulled forward from FY25 as guided previously.Garena's results continue to be a concern as macro seems to have a longer-than-expected impact on its user base and its profitability as a result has been trending downwards over the past couple of quarters. Management has been working hard on its gaming pipelines, although the uncertainty lies in the successes of these new games and whether they could reaccelerate their growth in the future.SeaBank has been growing its top line really quickly and huge improvements were made on the bottom line as well. Furthermore, the overall credit business is profitable and is generating positive cash flow, and has been increasingly making up a larger proportion of its total revenue. By that measure, it is larger than Ford Motor Co., which was founded in 1903.</p>\n<p>That might make sense to you as an investor -- after all, Nio is an innovative company that sells only electric vehicles. Ford is a legacy auto maker that is working to catch up and eventually make a full transition to electric vehicles. Shares of Nio have more than tripled in the past year, while Ford's have almost doubled after cratering in the previous decade.</p>\n<p>So where does Nio <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NIO\">$(NIO)$</a>, which reported second-quarter results after the stock market closes Wednesday, fit in an investment thesis? Below are screens showing how its stock valuation compares to vehicle production, and how that valuation relates to projected earnings through 2025.</p>\n<p><b>Doubling car production</b></p>\n<p>For the second quarter, Nio delivered 21,896 vehicles for a 112% increase from a year earlier. The growth is impressive, but the total number of vehicles sold is still relatively small.</p>\n<p>Here's a look at the 10 largest auto makers by market capitalization, along with their second-quarter sales or delivery numbers (whichever was higher, if both were reported) and additional color below the table:</p>\n<img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9e9aed76c94544dbe44cde9f7c8bebc\" tg-width=\"931\" tg-height=\"761\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\">\n<table>\n <tbody>\n  <tr></tr>\n </tbody>\n</table>\n<p>You can see that those valuations are about the future, when innovators in the EV space -- Tesla Inc.&nbsp;and Nio, on this list -- may (or may not) become as large as legacy players.</p>\n<p>For now, Ford churns out mostly internal combustion engine&nbsp;vehicles at nearly 35 times the rate that Nio makes EVs.</p>\n<p>One thing to be aware of is that the legacy auto makers don't all report their unit sales the same way. Most don't break out electric vehicle sales.</p>\n<p>Among those that do, definitions vary. For example, Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.TO) reported that \"electrified vehicle\" sales made up 26.6% of total auto sales during the second quarter. But that category includes:</p>\n<p>For Toyota, BEV made up only 0.2% of second-quarter sales, while they accounted for 100% of sales for Nio and Tesla. Toyota's PHEV sales made up 1.4% of the total.</p>\n<p>Volkswagen AG reports electric-vehicle sales as including PHEV, which accounted for 6.7% of second-quarter sales, or BEV, which made up 4.4% of total sales. Those are impressive numbers: a combined 11.1%.</p>\n<p>For Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft , better known as BWM Group, a second-quarter breakdown of electric-vehicle deliveries isn't yet available, but for the first half of 2021, 153,243 all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles were delivered, or 11.4% of total deliveries.</p>\n<p><b>Valuation to earnings estimates</b></p>\n<p>For companies at early stages, comparisons of price-to-earnings ratios may not mean very much. Such companies are focusing on growth rather than profits. An example of this has been Amazon.com Inc. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMZN\">$(AMZN)$</a>, which has traded at a high P/E for decades as it has worked to expand into new lines of business, at the expense of the bottom line.</p>\n<p>A high P/E ratio can reflect investors' enthusiasm for innovation and in the case of EVs, a political consensus for transforming the industry. So Nio and Tesla trade at much higher P/E ratios than the legacy auto makers.</p>\n<p>Then again, very low P/E may show too much contempt among investors for the older manufacturers, as they use their cash flow from continuing massive sales of traditional vehicles to fund their development of EVs. Opportunities may be highlighted.</p>\n<p>Normally a forward P/E ratio is calculated by dividing the share price by a rolling consensus estimate of earnings per share for 12 months. This isn't available for all the companies listed here, so we're using consensus estimates for net income for calendar 2022.</p>\n<p>First, here are P/E ratios based on current market caps and consensus 2022 estimates among analysts polled by FactSet. That’s because the Fed has signaled they are looking to taper QE,\" Tom Essaye, Sevens Report Research founder,told Yahoo Finance. \"And if we get a really, really strong jobs number and a hot wage number, then markets are going to start to say gee, are they going to taper QE maybe before November, or are they going to taper it more intensely than we thought and in a market that's frankly been very calm and a little bit complacent, that could cause volatility.\"</p>\n<p>Still, the Fed has suggested it would not react rashly to single reports, and has given itself leeway to adjust the timeline of its monetary policy pivots as more data comes in.</p>\n<p>\"I think everyone's counting on the Fed continuing really for the foreseeable future.
