I said this on this board about 8 months ago and I believe it more so every time that WB buys more OXY shares. If WB exercises his warrants his stake in OXY is around 26%. I think the CVX bid will be made public when WB buys an additional 4% of OXY. I think the offer by CVX will be around $90 to $100 per OXY share.

It&#39;s simply not possible. People will stay where there&#39;s interest, and we&#39;re going through the growing pains of figuring out where that is right now. But Meta, which used to be known as Facebook, isn&#39;t it. Here&#39;s why:</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a138f56a7b7619f316f01d055c071ae2\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>1. Meta Platforms relies on proprietary hardware that&#39;s not had widespread adoption</h2><p>Sales of Meta&#39;s Oculus Virtual Reality (VR) headset amounted to an estimated 11.2 million sets in 2021, making it one of the world&#39;s more popular headsets. That may sound like a lot of headsets, but it&#39;s important to remember that gaming platform <b>Roblox</b> has 54.7 million daily users, and <b>Microsoft</b>&#39;s Minecraft has 140 million monthly users,  and neither of these platforms requires additional equipment or bulky VR gear that has been known to cause physical side effects in some people.</p><p>Meta Platform&#39;s Horizon Worlds and Horizons Venues were reported to have 300,000 total users as of February 2022,  a far cry from even the 600,000 monthly active users of <b>Decentraland</b>.  The hardware requirement definitely plays a part in the lack of adoption of Meta Platforms&#39; VR platforms and -- because this is integral to the software&#39;s functionality -- will continue to hold it back until something gives with VR hardware.</p><h2>2. Meta Platforms doesn&#39;t give true ownership to users</h2><p>Unlike blockchain-based metaverse platforms like Decentraland and <b>The Sandbox</b>, Meta Platform&#39;s projects are owned by Meta at the end of the day. They don&#39;t allow for users to really own their own designs or real estate, regardless of whatever money those users may put into it. For some, this may feel like no big deal, but for many people who are adopting the metaverse, ownership is the entire point. They want to be able to wholly own what they buy and what they create, even if it&#39;s a pair of virtual sneakers or a piece of virtual art.</p><p>More importantly, Meta Platforms will never allow the control of the Horizon projects to go to its community, because the whole thing is still centrally owned by Meta Platforms. Decentraland and The Sandbox either have decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) as their ruling body or are in the process of creating them. These groups allow users to democratically make decisions for their own communities, including things like setting fees and deciding when or if the platform should close.</p><p>The difference in the legal structure of goods between Decentraland and The Sandbox and Meta Platforms is that both Decentraland and The Sandbox are built on top of a blockchain system that allows true ownership of virtual property. Items that are sold are deeded to the buyers, who can then do whatever they please with them, including selling them off-platform, or, as technology develops, even moving them into different metaverse spaces.</p><p>Creators of blockchain-based items that are secured by non-fungible tokens, as they are on Decentraland and The Sandbox, can also draw royalties from their creations over time, depending on the contracts tied to these items. One company that was late to the game, Meta Platforms, has been trying to imply that it will be the future of the metaverse, despite being a rather late-comer to the scene.Although metaverse real estate has great potential, not every platform is going to make it. It's simply not possible. People will stay where there's interest, and we're going through the growing pains of figuring out where that is right now. Meta Platforms relies on proprietary hardware that's not had widespread adoptionSales of Meta's Oculus Virtual Reality (VR) headset amounted to an estimated 11.2 million sets in 2021, making it one of the world's more popular headsets. That may sound like a lot of headsets, but it's important to remember that gaming platform Roblox has 54.7 million daily users, and Microsoft's Minecraft has 140 million monthly users,  and neither of these platforms requires additional equipment or bulky VR gear that has been known to cause physical side effects in some people.Meta Platform's Horizon Worlds and Horizons Venues were reported to have 300,000 total users as of February 2022,  a far cry from even the 600,000 monthly active users of Decentraland.  The hardware requirement definitely plays a part in the lack of adoption of Meta Platforms' VR platforms and -- because this is integral to the software's functionality -- will continue to hold it back until something gives with VR hardware.2. Meta Platforms doesn't give true ownership to usersUnlike blockchain-based metaverse platforms like Decentraland and The Sandbox, Meta Platform's projects are owned by Meta at the end of the day. They don't allow for users to really own their own designs or real estate, regardless of whatever money those users may put into it. For some, this may feel like no big deal, but for many people who are adopting the metaverse, ownership is the entire point. They want to be able to wholly own what they buy and what they create, even if it's a pair of virtual sneakers or a piece of virtual art.More importantly, Meta Platforms will never allow the control of the Horizon projects to go to its community, because the whole thing is still centrally owned by Meta Platforms. Decentraland and The Sandbox either have decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) as their ruling body or are in the process of creating them. These groups allow users to democratically make decisions for their own communities, including things like setting fees and deciding when or if the platform should close.The difference in the legal structure of goods between Decentraland and The Sandbox and Meta Platforms is that both Decentraland and The Sandbox are built on top of a blockchain system that allows true ownership of virtual property. Items that are sold are deeded to the buyers, who can then do whatever they please with them, including selling them off-platform, or, as technology develops, even moving them into different metaverse spaces.Creators of blockchain-based items that are secured by non-fungible tokens, as they are on Decentraland and The Sandbox, can also draw royalties from their creations over time, depending on the contracts tied to these items. Facebook parent Meta Platforms tanked the entire market on Thursday after its weak report, only to see stocks rescued a day later by Amazon’s impressive growth.</p><p>Now that we’ve had a few minutes to breathe, here are some thoughts on tech’s crazy week:</p><p><b>Amazon’s strategy of diversification is paying off:</b> This was the quarter that Amazon clearly demonstrated that it’s far more than an e-tailer. Its Amazon Web Services cloud business is on fire—it’s arguably a more valuable (and far less cyclical) business than the company’s legacy e-commerce arm. It is no accident that founder Jeff Bezos chose Andy Jassy—who built and ran AWS—to be his successor as CEO.</p><p>But there’s more to the quarter. Amazon’s advertising business generated $10 billion in sales in the latest period, having doubled in a bit more than a year. It now generates more ad dollars than Google’s YouTube. People come to the Amazon store with intent—no matter what you search for, you will see an assortment of sponsored listings, i.e., advertising. I did a search for “staple gun,” just to prove the point, and the results included more than a dozen sponsored listings.</p><p>Amazon’s third-party services business, meanwhile, now has an annual run rate of more than $120 billion. The business has become an indispensable channel for vendors of every variety, thanks to its warehousing and delivery services.</p><p>Amazon has built one of the most effective logistics networks on Earth—some analyst estimates have Amazon delivering more packages this year than $200 billion market-value United Parcel Service (UPS). Even after Friday’s 14% rally, Amazon shares are still down year to date, following just a minimal gain in 2021. The stock looks like a bargain.</p><p><b>You can’t overstate the importance of cloud computing:</b> One of the most important themes from the last two weeks is that the cloud businesses at Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet just continue to get better. All three turned in better-than-expected results. Microsoft reported 46% growth for its Azure business in the December quarter—and projected even faster growth in the March quarter. Google Cloud revenue grew 45% for the second straight quarter. And AWS helped offset softness in Amazon’s core e-commerce business, with revenue growth improving to 40% from 39%, accelerating for the fourth-straight quarter. The cloud arms of these three giants are the best enterprise computing businesses in the market.</p><p><b>Raising the stakes:</b> Amazon last week raised the monthly rate on Amazon Prime by 15% for monthly payers to $15.99; annual subscription will see a 17% increase to $139. The company last increased the Prime subscription rate in 2018, and costs for labor and delivery are rising, so a price bump seems rational.</p><p>The move comes just weeks after Netflix (NFLX) instituted a price increase for its subscribers in the U.S. and Canada. It will be interesting to see the consumer reaction, but my suspicion is that elasticity is high—the services are valuable, and there aren’t easy substitutions.</p><p>The price hikes indicate just how confident Amazon and Netflix are about their subscriptions. Here’s a little perspective: the New York Times (NYT), which in recent weeks announced deals to acquire the sports news site the Athletic and the popular word game Wordle, has set a goal of 15 million total subscribers by 2027. Both Amazon and Netflix have more than 200 million subscribers apiece.</p><p><b>Spend wisely:</b> Alphabet last week declared a 20-for-1 stock split, which will bring the share price down to around the $150 range. But what they aren’t doing is paying actual dividends. They should. The company has $140 billion in cash and equivalents; it generated $18.6 billion in free cash flow in the latest quarter.</p><p>Meta just highlighted the risks of choosing buybacks over dividends. The Facebook parent bought back $33 billion of stock over just the last two quarters. Given the Meta selloff last week, that cash was basically set on fire. Had the company instead declared a special dividend, it could have paid holders close to $14 a share.</p><p><b>The shakeout isn’t over:</b> The underlying issues that have plagued tech stocks for months are still in place. Interest rates are going to head higher still. Chips remain in short supply. Inflation is uncomfortably high. The market’s appetite for speculative names is low. There’s a reason the best performing tech stocks so far this year are cheap—old school names like VMware (VMW), Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Dell Technologies (DELL), and IBM (IBM).</p><p>In the past two weeks we’ve learned that more than ever the market likes consistency. That’s what made Meta’s earnings and outlook this past week so troubling: Facebook is no longer the reliable performer investors have come to expect. But the rest of Big Tech still fits the bill. Apple and Microsoft consistently beat expectations with products customers want. And you can say the same for Google and Amazon.
