Beijing Responds to Questions on Possible US-China AI Safety Dialogue Framework

At a regular press briefing on September 24, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun fielded a question from a New York Times reporter regarding a potential bilateral communication mechanism. The reporter noted that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had mentioned that during his meeting with Vice Premier He Lifeng, both sides agreed to establish a formal communication channel, which would include an emergency hotline for sharing information on artificial intelligence safety incidents. The reporter asked whether the Foreign Ministry could confirm if China has agreed to set up this dialogue mechanism and the associated alert system.

In response, Guo Jiakun stated that information regarding the China-US economic and trade consultations has already been released by the Chinese side and can be referenced accordingly. He added that for specific details on this matter, it would be appropriate to direct inquiries to the relevant competent authorities for further clarification.
