South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT announced that the South Korean government and U.S. chip giant Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) convened a steering committee meeting in Seoul on Wednesday to discuss the artificial intelligence (AI) chip cooperation agreement signed earlier this year.
The meeting served as a follow-up measure to implement the memorandum of understanding inked between the Ministry of Science and ICT and AMD in July. Under the memorandum, the two sides agreed to jointly establish an AI research center and build heterogeneous computing infrastructure capable of accessing multiple AI chips.
In conjunction with the meeting, AMD held its technology roadshow, the "Advancing AI World Tour," in Seoul for the first time. The event drew approximately 1,300 pre-registrations, with local companies partnering with AMD in AI computing infrastructure, including LG Electronics, also in attendance.
Ryu Je-myung, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated: "The Ministry of Science and ICT will make every effort to ensure the smooth implementation of the cooperation projects confirmed through these discussions, support the growth of domestic AI chip companies, and enhance the competitiveness of our nation's AI industry ecosystem."
