An industry association in Ningxia having 89 "vice presidents" has recently drawn public scrutiny and questioning. On January 18, a joint investigation team from the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region issued an official announcement with the following content: In response to media and netizen reports concerning the oversized configuration of leadership positions during the Ningxia Restaurant Association's election, the Autonomous Region's Department of Commerce, together with the Department of Civil Affairs and the Department of Market Regulation, formed a joint investigation team. The team immediately summoned the association's responsible persons and initiated a comprehensive investigation.
Following preliminary investigation and verification, it was confirmed that the association's election involved an excessive number of leadership positions, violating the "Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Social Organization Supervision and Management Measures." Consequently, the election results have been declared invalid. The Autonomous Region's Department of Civil Affairs has legally served a rectification notice to the association, ordering immediate corrective actions. The joint investigation team will thoroughly examine issues raised by media and netizens, including chaotic association management and inadequate departmental oversight, and will deal severely with any identified problems in accordance with laws and regulations. Pending the announcement of the investigation's findings and disciplinary actions, the association's external activities are legally suspended. Updates on the investigation and final outcomes will be promptly released to the public for supervision. Simultaneously, the Autonomous Region will launch an intensive, region-wide campaign to rectify irregularities within industry associations, conducting comprehensive inspections, learning from this case to prevent recurrences, and using investigations to drive improvements. Previously reported: According to media coverage, news about the Ningxia Restaurant Association having 89 "vice presidents" recently attracted significant attention. It was reported that the association announced its election results in April 2025, electing 1 president, 10 executive vice presidents, and 28 vice presidents, with an additional 42 vice presidents co-opted later. Then, on January 9, 2026, another 9 vice presidents were co-opted. These 89 "vice presidents" did not include 10 "honorary vice presidents." The involved institution responded that the figure of "89 vice presidents" was "incorrect," attributing it to a work error. It stated that the WeChat public account operator was a third party who failed to remove former vice presidents who had already stepped down. Furthermore, "specially invited vice presidents" who do not practically participate in affairs were included in the count, along with positions like honorary vice presidents; the actual number of responsible persons was 53.
