A unique artistic community is taking shape in a Beijing suburb, blending the aroma of coffee with creative studios and youth accommodations. The Daxingzhuang area in Pinggu District is set to be connected by Metro Line 22 by the end of this year.
In a collaborative effort involving the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, the Pinggu District government, and community organizers, led by Meng Lingxizhu, an experimental space for "artistic nomads" has been established. This initiative allows artists, designers, and students to reside within the village, engaging in entrepreneurship, creative work, and leisurely activities like enjoying coffee and cats. With a metro station just two kilometers away, commuting to and from the city center is exceptionally convenient.
This project challenges the stereotype that rural areas lack sophistication. By integrating metro access with artistic development, this innovative model for rural revitalization aims to enhance the cultural landscape along the entire Line 22 corridor.
This community invites visitors to experience a distinctly modern and "unconventional" rural lifestyle in Beijing, offering a chance to live as a creative nomad, if only for a short while.
