Elon Musk, the founder of social media platform X, stated on Saturday that the platform will open source its new algorithm to the public within seven days. This algorithm includes the relevant code used to determine which posts and advertisements are recommended to users.
"This initiative will be implemented every four weeks, accompanied by detailed developer documentation to help everyone understand the specific updates to the algorithm," said Musk, the owner of the X platform, in a post published on the platform.
The billionaire did not specify the exact reasons behind X's decision to open source the algorithm. Previously, he and his company have repeatedly clashed with regulators over issues related to the display of user content.
Among these, European regulators have significantly increased their scrutiny of the company, focusing on the spread of disinformation, inadequate content moderation, and deficiencies in transparency.
In July of this year, French authorities, as part of an investigation into potential bias and manipulation within X's algorithm, requested that the company share details related to its algorithm. X responded at the time by stating it would not comply with the request and accused the investigation of being politically motivated.
