Mixed Performance in U.S. Stocks, Intel Rises 6.75%, Palo Alto Networks Surges 5.78%

On August 19, 2025, the U.S. stock market opened with mixed performance. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.05%, the S&P 500 index slightly decreased, and the Nasdaq Composite index showed a minor increase.

In sector performance, U.S. cybersecurity stocks showed notable gains. CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. rose by 1.87%, Zscaler Inc. increased by 1.43%, and Palo Alto Networks surged by 5.78%. Conversely, Russian concept stocks experienced significant declines, with Cian PLC dropping by 2.72% and Yandex N.V. falling by 2.31%.

NVIDIA saw a slight increase of 0.12%. The company announced a collaboration with Hon Hai to develop humanoid robots, expected to debut in November. Additionally, Nvidia is developing a new AI chip for the Chinese market, which could outperform the H20 chip, although regulatory approval remains uncertain.

Apple increased by 0.04% as the company expanded iPhone production in India to supply new models to the U.S. market.

Amazon.com fell by 0.69% after ARM hired Amazon's AI chip director to accelerate its self-research plan, aiming to transform into a company that designs and produces complete chips independently.

Meta Platforms, Inc. dropped by 0.30% following news of its fourth AI business restructuring within six months.

Tesla Motors rose by 0.43% with the launch of the Model Y L in China, priced at 339,000 yuan, expected to be delivered in September 2025. However, internal reports revealed that Tesla executives and board members have sold over 50% of their holdings in the past year.

Intel surged by 6.75% after SoftBank Group announced a $2 billion investment in Intel, acquiring common stock at $23 per share. This strategic move aims to boost semiconductor innovation and technology in the U.S.

Palantir Technologies Inc. fell by 1.37%. Despite signing a new licensing agreement with Fujitsu, short-seller Andrew Left criticized Palantir's stock valuation, suggesting it is inflated compared to true AI leaders like OpenAI.

Novo-Nordisk A/S rose by 2.17% after announcing direct consumer sales of Ozempic at $499 per month, leading to a significant increase in GoodRx's stock price.

Pfizer increased by 0.28% following Health Canada's approval of its updated Covid-19 vaccine targeting the Omicron LP.8.1 variant, set to be available in Canadian pharmacies in the fall.

XPeng Inc. rose by 2.31% after reporting strong Q2 financial results, with total revenues reaching RMB 18.27 billion, a 125.3% increase, and vehicle deliveries surging by 241.6% year over year.

Viking Therapeutics experienced a significant decline of 41.27% after reporting disappointing mid-trial results for its oral weight-loss drug VK2735, leading to mixed market reactions.
