Hong Kong Stocks Movement | COSCO SHIP ENGY (01138) Rises Over 4% on Reported Red Sea Shipping Resumption; Institutions Bullish on Record-High Profits

Stock News02-04

COSCO SHIP ENGY (01138) rose more than 4%. As of press time, the stock was up 4.58%, trading at HKD 14.85, with a turnover of HKD 75.2298 million. On the news front, according to market media reports, Maersk stated on Tuesday that the shipping group Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk will adjust the routes of a shared service, resuming transit via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. It is understood that since late 2023, multiple attacks have occurred in the Red Sea area, prompting shipping companies to divert vessels around Africa. Now, major shipping firms are considering returning to this critical Asia-Europe trade corridor. Meanwhile, Maersk noted in a statement that naval forces will provide security support for the passage through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal on this route. CITIC Securities stated that against the backdrop of structural demand growth from compliance regulations in 2026 and low oil prices, crude oil inventory replenishment demand could be the main marginal variable; the brokerage expects the annualized VLCC freight rate center to settle between $60,000 and $75,000 per day. As the cyclical upturn materializes, the release of VLCC freight rate elasticity is expected to drive rapid profit growth for the fleet next year. In the short term, with the seasonal low shipping season approaching, it is advisable to look for opportunities to position strategically. Guotai Junan Securities believes that the upturn in the tanker shipping market has already persisted for four years and expects COSCO SHIP ENGY's profits to reach a new high in 2025, with a significant year-on-year surge in first-quarter 2026 earnings. The brokerage anticipates that the tanker shipping boom will likely continue to outperform expectations in the coming years, with foreign trade tanker profits possessing substantial elasticity.
