Abstract

Intel will report third-quarter results on October 29, 2026 Post-Mkt; this preview synthesizes consensus forecasts, prior-quarter performance, business mix, and prevailing institutional views on earnings trajectory and risks.

Market Forecast

Consensus for the current quarter points to revenue of 16.45 billion US dollars, adjusted EPS of 0.39, and EBIT of 2.64 billion US dollars, implying year-over-year changes of 25.22%, 38.81%, and 525.30%, respectively; directional expectations suggest gross margin expansion versus last year and a return to positive net profitability as operating leverage improves. The main business mix remains anchored by Client Computing and Data Center and AI, where secular PC refresh and early server-cycle improvements underpin the near-term outlook; the most promising growth vector remains Data Center and AI, with revenue scale comparable to 6.26 billion US dollars last quarter and a projected double-digit YoY increase.

Last Quarter Review

Last quarter, Intel posted revenue of 16.13 billion US dollars, a gross profit margin of 40.36%, GAAP net loss attributable to shareholders of -11.03 billion US dollars with a net profit margin of -68.41%, and adjusted EPS of 0.42, with year-over-year growth of 25.42% for revenue and 320.00% for adjusted EPS. Management delivered a sizeable top-line beat and stronger-than-expected EBIT, reflecting better unit volumes and mix in core PC and initial AI server ramps; Client Computing contributed 8.88 billion US dollars and Data Center and AI 6.26 billion US dollars, while Intel Foundry Services posted 5.77 billion US dollars on a reported basis, offset by -5.48 billion US dollars of intersegment eliminations.

Current Quarter Outlook

Client Computing Group

For the quarter to be reported, Client Computing is expected to benefit from sustained commercial PC refresh and seasonal uplift into year-end procurement. Channel inventories have normalized relative to last year, allowing sell-in to track closer to end-demand. Pricing discipline and higher-core-count SKUs support average selling prices, while node transitions continue to temper near-term cost downs, implying incremental but not outsized gross margin tailwinds. A key watchpoint will be how much of the uplift stems from corporate versus consumer demand, as the latter remains more sensitive to macro and discretionary spending.

Shipment mix is trending toward premium and thin-and-light form factors, which should aid profitability even if unit growth moderates sequentially from back-to-school peaks. The attach rate of AI-enabled PC features is a narrative support, but material revenue contribution is still building; any commentary on attach momentum into the December quarter will shape sentiment on sustainability. If upside comes primarily from commercial, investors may extrapolate a steadier multi-quarter cadence, whereas consumer-led upside could skew to seasonality and promotions.

Gross margin in Client will hinge on the balance between promotional intensity and product cost curves. If foundry cost absorption and yields show sequential progress, segment-level margins can expand even on moderate unit growth. Conversely, elevated promotions to defend share against competitors would cap segment contribution, making consolidated margin more reliant on Data Center mix.

Data Center and AI

Data Center and AI remains the most sensitive swing factor for consolidated results and stock reaction this quarter. Indicators point to rising hyperscale purchases tied to near-term capacity adds and an on-premise refresh among enterprise buyers who deferred in prior cycles. Unit momentum, coupled with richer configurations, can drive double-digit year-over-year growth off the 6.26 billion US dollars base from last quarter. The magnitude of upside depends on competitive win rates in AI inference and general-purpose compute, and on accelerator attach, which can also influence margin mix.

Pricing dynamics are stabilizing as supply-demand tightness persists in certain configurations; this can support sequential ASP improvement and operating leverage. Investors will look for signs of traction in AI-centric CPUs and the ecosystem readiness of complementary accelerators, as deployment roadmaps at large cloud providers become more visible. Commentary on order linearity and lead times will be critical to assessing whether growth is broadening beyond a few flagship customers.

A favorable mix shift toward higher-core-count server CPUs and early AI-oriented demand should aid gross margin, partially offset by start-up costs on advanced nodes. If the company confirms improving utilization and cost absorption, Street models may migrate higher on EBIT, given the high incremental margin profile of Data Center revenue. Conversely, if customers signal digestion or competitive displacement, the narrative could pivot to a slower ramp and heavier investment needs.

Key Stock Price Drivers This Quarter

The first determinant is gross margin trajectory against expectations, with investors triangulating reported margin versus implied mix across Client and Data Center; a modest outperformance on margin could drive outsized EPS upside given fixed-cost leverage. The second is visibility on the AI server pipeline, including qualitative guidance on the breadth of customer ramps and any commentary on accelerator strategy and interoperability, which influences medium-term share assumptions. The third is capital intensity and operating expense cadence; clarity on spending levels relative to revenue growth will affect confidence in free-cash-flow trajectory and the path back to sustained GAAP profitability.

Management’s quantitative outlook for the coming quarter will frame whether the current-quarter beat, if delivered, can persist. If guidance implies sequential revenue and margin expansion into year-end, the stock could benefit from estimate revisions and an improving quality-of-earnings profile. Any signals of elongated customer qualification cycles, node-transition costs, or elevated promotional activity would temper the multiple even if near-term numbers land in line.

Analyst Opinions

Across recent commentaries, the balance of views skews bullish, with the majority expecting Intel to meet or exceed top-line guidance and to deliver incremental gross margin expansion as Data Center mix improves. Several large sell-side houses emphasize the combination of PC stabilization and a gradual AI server tailwind as supportive for year-over-year revenue growth around the mid-20% range and adjusted EPS near 0.39.

Analysts point to three supportive pillars. First, a more normalized PC channel and corporate refresh cycle underpin solid Client revenue consistency. Second, Data Center demand is reaccelerating off last year’s trough, with scope for configuration-rich shipments and improving price/mix. Third, operating leverage from higher volumes, alongside progress on manufacturing cost curves, enables EPS outperformance versus the prior year even with elevated investment needs. Conversely, the bearish minority focuses on competitive intensity and capital requirements, but this view is outweighed by those modeling improving utilization and mix.

Institutional notes highlight that upside risk sits in Data Center order momentum and margin realization if utilization and yields trend favorably; downside risk is tied to any sign of spending pushouts or heavier incentive support in Client. Overall, the majority stance anticipates positive revisions if management confirms a solid December-quarter setup and communicates constructive AI server visibility, alongside reaffirmed discipline on operating expenses and capital deployment.

Ebit rise above 500% in itself will be super impressive. But it is what is being expected. Which means even if this is met, the share price may not see any more upside. If anything, as has been seen recently, even if met, share prices correct down around 3-5%. And with the bew financing worries, I will say markets have gone ultra cautious.
