Column: ATFX Forex Column Submission. On October 21, ATFX news: For most individuals, the results of using an EA for automated trading are superior to discretionary trading. An EA only needs the start button to be clicked, and it will mechanically execute buy and sell signals according to the strategy requirements, avoiding the emotional trading, lack of energy, and delayed reaction times that come with manual trading. Even if the strategy loses money, the cause can be identified purely at the strategy design level, without the need for deep self-examination of one's mindset and execution. Today we share a gold five-minute timeframe EA strategy, evaluating its advantages and disadvantages, purely as a case study, and it is not recommended for direct use. Everyone has different trading ideas, and each strategy reflects the trader's personal style, so the EA is only for exchange and sharing, not for "copy and paste" use.
Tools
Two EMA moving averages, with parameters of 9-day and 21-day. One technical indicator RSI, with a parameter of 14, which is very common among oscillating indicators.
Strategy Buy
1. Buy signal: EMA(9) crosses above EMA(21); the short-term moving average crossing above the long-term moving average means the technical trend is bullish. 2. The reading of the oscillating indicator RSI(14) is above 50, meaning bulls are currently dominant.
Strategy Stop Loss
1. 1.5 times the ATR(14) reading. 2. One lot corresponds to a 20 USD stop-loss range.
Strategy Take Profit
1. Twice the stop-loss range. 2. One lot corresponds to a 20 to 40 USD stop loss. 3. After profit exceeds 20 USD, use a trailing stop as the take profit.
Strategy Sell, Stop Loss, Take Profit
1. The same logic as the strategy buy but in reverse.
Other Notes
1. Only start the EA after 15:00 Beijing time, to avoid the noise of the Asian session. 2. The maximum number of trades per day is 5. 3. The maximum daily loss amount is 3% of total capital. 4. The lower the spread, the better, but not at the expense of the trading environment and order execution speed. 5. No adding to positions and no accumulating risk.
ATFX Commentary
Giving this EA strategy to an AI assistant can produce complete EA code. It is necessary to find gold tick-level data from the past two years and conduct strategy backtesting to truly understand its advantages and disadvantages. The EA code needs to run on a demo account for at least one month to ensure there are no various unexpected bugs before it can be put into use. The parameters of EMA, RSI, and ATR can be adjusted freely; the parameters given above are only for reference and are not the optimal solution. When adjusting parameters, the problem of overfitting to specific market conditions should be strongly avoided, to prevent damaging the EA's adaptability to future market conditions. Follow the "Strategy EA Analysis" series of articles; a backtest report and detailed analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the "Gold M5 Moving Average Crossover, RSI Trend Filter" strategy will be published later.
