According to reports, ByteDance is planning a significant increase in capital expenditure for this year and next to solidify its dominance in China's AI market and challenge top U.S. firms overseas. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that ByteDance, primarily building AI infrastructure such as data centers, is discussing expenditures of up to $70 billion (approximately HK$546 billion) for this year. They stated that a substantial portion of these funds would come from the company's estimated profit of around $50 billion expected for 2025. The sources noted that this expenditure figure is a preliminary estimate and is subject to potential quarterly adjustments, meaning it could differ significantly from the final amount. One source mentioned that this year's capital expenditure could range from 400 billion to 500 billion yuan. The report also mentioned that ByteDance has discussed the possibility of raising capital expenditure to approximately $100 billion next year, provided economic and business conditions are favorable. It was noted that the company's capital expenditure last year was around $25 billion.
