Shunyi District Debuts New 50,000 Sq. Meter Urban Wilderness Park, Hosts Art Festival This Weekend

Deep News06-26

Shunyi District has gained a new hotspot for urban renewal and social media check-ins. From June 26th to 28th, the 3rd Calling Sustainable Living Art Festival is being held at Shunxin · Langyuan Greens, marking the park's official debut following its renovation and transformation. The opening of Shunxin · Langyuan Greens features accessible lawns and public landscape areas.

It is understood that Shunxin · Langyuan Greens is a joint creation by Capital Land Langyuan and Shunxin Group. It represents Capital Land Langyuan's largest urban renewal project currently in operation in Beijing, following Langyuan Vintage, Langyuan Park, Langyuan Station, and BOM Xifanli. The project has also been selected for the city's first batch of urban renewal projects in 2026. With a total floor area of approximately 300,000 square meters, the site was originally the venue for the 2009 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition and was later converted into the Guomen 1 Home Furnishings Market. At the end of 2025, a new round of redevelopment began. While preserving core businesses like home furnishings, the project has reshaped public spaces and landscapes to better connect industry, culture, and consumption.

The transformed Shunxin · Langyuan Greens resembles a wilderness within the city. The current green space covers nearly 50,000 square meters. The expansive lawns are not merely for viewing; they are accessible green spaces where people can enter, relax, and sit, offering a strong sense of ease and relaxation. The area also features planned spaces like a curatorial square, an art gallery corridor, and a family-friendly interactive playground. Future plans aim to create an outdoor public space where one can "see greenery upon stepping out and get close to water with every step."

The 3rd Calling Sustainable Living Art Festival has also kicked off within the park. Areas open to the public during this festival include the open lawns and public landscape areas of the project's first phase, as well as parts of the cultural and artistic space—Wilderness SPACE. Festival-goers can enjoy offerings like "Wilderness Sunset" cocktails, naturally fermented sourdough bread, and produce from local farms. The outdoor lawn area hosts over 70 food and beverage stalls during the festival, with free public admission for a culinary treat. "The mini burger with mushroom and shrimp paste is quite fresh!" and "It's quite hot today, this lemon tea and iced milk are pretty good!" are comments heard from the crowd gathered at various stalls. The local Shunyi farm "Farmland Creation Society Farm" brought freshly picked tomatoes and watermelons, with freshly squeezed watermelon juice providing a refreshing thirst-quencher.

Performances and activities are also scheduled for the outdoor venue during the festival. Today, the WANTONG Ensemble performed classical music, and the Nevermind Band played multiple classic songs. Zumba dance sessions, ethnic group dances, and performances by bands like Dream Melody, Thousand Words One Isle, and BOXER are planned for Saturday and Sunday.

Beyond food and performances, the park's underground art zone features 46 artisanal and handicraft vendors offering unique cultural and creative goods. Exhibitions like the "Animal Friends at Dawn" video exhibition and the "Daydream Prism" video exhibition provide diverse visual experiences. The "Animal Friends at Dawn" exhibition is a collection of works by seven elementary school students, shot with their parents' accompaniment. "The children set out at dawn each time, venturing into Beijing's parks, green belts, and riverbanks to visit their animal neighbors," explained Ms. Zhang, mother to two of the young students. In her view, while the children's works might still be稚嫩, they represent seasonal diaries written for their animal friends with curiosity and love.

On the 27th and 28th, the festival will also host a series of intensive thematic forums, including "From Public Welfare to Community Welfare: How to Build a Beautiful Vicinity," "How Art Participates in Real Life: From Art Festivals to Community Action," "Community Scenarios for Business for Good: When Consumption Begins to Create Community Value," and "From Community Building to Space Building: How Community Spaces Reconnect People."

It is reported that, to date, Shunxin · Langyuan Greens has signed agreements with over 40 brands in culture, art, sports, leisure, and特色餐饮. Future development will focus on new consumption formats, models, and scenarios, linking with the MICE economy. The park will continue to develop areas such as Chinese wine culture, lifestyle aesthetics, pet-friendly spaces, organic agriculture, wellness and healing, art, and public welfare, complemented by supporting formats like industrial offices and hotels.
