On May 21st, Xiaomi held a new product launch event in Beijing, unveiling a series of new devices across its mobile phone, automotive, and smart home categories.
The two main highlights of the event were undoubtedly the Xiaomi 17 Max and the expanded Xiaomi YU7 automotive family.
On the mobile phone front, despite cost pressures from rising memory component prices, the pricing for the Xiaomi 17 Max remains restrained. The newly launched Xiaomi 17 Max starts at 4,799 yuan for the 12GB+256GB variant, with a post-subsidy price of 4,299 yuan. The higher-spec "16GB+512GB" model is priced at 5,799 yuan. Notably, the Xiaomi 17 Max does not continue the "16GB+1TB" configuration seen in previous models of the 17 series.
A more direct reason behind this is the higher cost pressure associated with large memory and storage configurations. The bill of materials for top-tier versions like 16GB+1TB is particularly high, further amplifying cost pressures. The memory configuration for the Xiaomi 17 Max appears to strike a balance between "maintaining a competitive starting price" and "controlling the cost of high-end configurations."
From a product perspective, as the first Max model in Xiaomi's flagship number series, the Xiaomi 17 Max is not merely a larger-screen version. It features comprehensive enhancements in display, battery life, imaging, and performance. The most significant selling point of the Xiaomi 17 Max is its battery life. It is equipped with an 8,000mAh "Jinsha River" battery with 16% silicon content and an energy density of 894Wh/L, making it the flagship Xiaomi phone with the best battery life to date.
In the automotive sector, the Xiaomi YU7 family has undergone a significant expansion with the addition of two new models: the YU7 GT and the YU7 Standard Edition.
Specifically, the YU7 Standard Edition starts at 233,500 yuan, lowering the entry point for the model line. According to the company's presentation, the Standard Edition was developed three years ago but was canceled at the last minute to simplify the product lineup.
In terms of specifications, as a mid-to-large-sized sport SUV, the YU7 Standard Edition is equipped with a 73 kWh LFP battery and a 752V silicon carbide high-voltage platform. It offers a CLTC range of 643 kilometers, with fast charging capable of adding 405 km of range in 15 minutes, primarily targeting daily urban commuting needs.
As the premium variant of the YU7 family, the YU7 GT starts at 389,900 yuan, raising the upper limit of the model line's price band. Notably, a specially modified YU7 GT set a lap time of 7 minutes 22.755 seconds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, earning the title of "fastest SUV on the Nürburgring."
Consequently, the starting price for the YU7 family has been lowered from 253,500 yuan to 233,500 yuan, while the top-tier variant's price has increased from 329,900 yuan to 389,900 yuan.
From a market perspective, the YU7 Standard Edition is tasked with expanding user reach, while the YU7 GT is responsible for elevating the brand's premium positioning. Xiaomi's automotive division is simultaneously strengthening both ends of its SUV product matrix to form a more complete lineup.
For Xiaomi, the 17 Max secures the core mobile phone business, while the expanded YU7 family completes the automotive product matrix. As more categories are integrated into a unified ecosystem, the contours of Xiaomi's "Human x Car x Home" full-scenario smart ecosystem are becoming increasingly defined.
