Special Topic: 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Summit & the Second Green Industry and Sustainable Consumption Expo. The 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Summit was held from October 20 to 22 at the Huangpu Expo Park in Shanghai.
At the industry-themed forum titled "Advancing High-Quality Development with Eastern Strength," Wei Ming, Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning at Biren Tech, shared his views on the imbalance between computing power supply and demand and the problem of idle resources. He said that idle computing power is caused by multiple factors, and that with the adoption of technologies such as PD disaggregation, the usability of domestic computing power is improving markedly, and the idle-capacity problem will gradually be resolved.
In his presentation, Wei Ming said that over its seven years of existence, Biren Tech has personally experienced and witnessed the journey of domestic chips from being "usable" to being "easy to use." Addressing the current problem of idle computing power, he analyzed three main causes: first, the early construction of computing centers in various regions lacked coordinated planning. Second, after computing centers were built, operational and maintenance capabilities failed to keep pace, and insufficient software-hardware coordination constrained the release of computing efficiency. Third, driven by factors such as Moore's Law, chips iterate rapidly, and early products had shortcomings in computing density, interconnect speed, and memory bandwidth, making it difficult to meet continuously upgrading application demands, which also contributed to idle computing power to a certain extent.
Wei Ming also saw positive changes. In the past, domestic chips needed to be adapted to numerous models one by one, which took a long time; now the model ecosystem is becoming more focused. The rise of AI Agents has further reduced the time cost of chip adaptation. At the same time, Wei Ming emphasized that the other side of idleness is the "extreme scarcity" of high-end computing power. The shortage of computing power, especially high-end computing power, has become one of the biggest challenges facing large-model companies this year. Fortunately, the computing power level of domestic high-end chips has now risen, and idle computing power can also be revitalized through methods such as PD disaggregation. "As new technologies continue to be implemented and applied, the problem of idle computing power will be gradually resolved," Wei Ming said. "We are full of confidence that domestic cards will truly be put to use and used well."
