S&P Dow Jones Indices Partners with Pantera Capital to Launch a New Digital Asset Index

S&P Dow Jones Indices and digital asset investment firm Pantera Capital jointly launched the S&P Pantera Digital Asset Index on July 21. The new index aims to provide institutional investors with a more disciplined and structured benchmark for digital asset allocation.

Unlike many existing crypto indices that focus primarily on price momentum or trending tokens, the new index employs a rules-driven methodology similar to traditional financial benchmarks. It selectively includes tokens and companies with real-world application scenarios and verifiable revenue streams. This approach is designed to highlight digital assets with strong fundamentals and economic value, rather than purely speculative assets.

S&P Dow Jones Indices CEO Cathy Clay stated that the company is committed to helping investors cut through market noise with trusted benchmarks. She noted that the same rigorous standards are now being applied to the digital asset space, utilizing a framework driven by fundamentals and economic analysis to serve diversified portfolios. Pantera Capital founder Dan Morehead pointed out that for global investors, the biggest hurdle in the crypto space has always been how to allocate assets. The new index is designed to identify the truly significant digital assets and infrastructure.

The launch of this index marks a new phase of maturation for the digital asset market. Blockchain application scenarios are demonstrating broader value, regulatory clarity is increasing in major markets, and barriers to institutional participation are gradually lowering. The new index can create synergies with Pantera Capital's three primary strategies, which include passive management, hedge funds, and venture capital, collectively managing over $3 billion. It will serve as a reference benchmark for active management or new investment products. S&P Dow Jones Indices is a global leading index provider under S&P Global, responsible for iconic market indicators such as the S&P 500® and the Dow Jones Industrial Average®.
