Hong Kong Stock Movement | Film and Television Stocks Rise in Early Trading, January National Box Office Surpasses 1 Billion Yuan, Focus on Lunar New Year Period Heats Up

Stock News01-12

Film and television stocks experienced gains in early trading. As of the time of writing, DAMAI ENT (01060) rose by 6.98%, trading at HKD 0.92. MAOYAN ENT (01896) increased by 4.29%, trading at HKD 7.29. On the news front, according to Lighthouse Pro, as of January 9th, the total box office revenue (including pre-sales) for January 2026 has already exceeded 1 billion yuan.

Recently released films span a variety of genres including comedy, action, suspense, and romance. The popularity of movies such as "A Place for Action," "Sky of the Forefathers," "Just Enough," "Playing House," "Anonymous Kill," "Finding Qin," and "Someday in the Future" provides audiences with a rich and diverse selection of viewing options. Everbright Securities pointed out that with "Pegasus 3" being the first to confirm its release date, public attention and discussion surrounding the Lunar New Year film period continue to intensify.

As of December 31st, 2025, "Boonie Bears: Always There," considered a regular fixture of the Lunar New Year period, has the highest certainty for release. Several other highly anticipated works, including "Project Panda 2," "The Battle of Penghu," "A Change of Heart," "Women's Football," "Silent Awakening," and "Blades of the Guardians: Stormy Desert," are also expected to join the competitive lineup for the period. Based on the currently announced slate, the overall buzz for the 2026 Lunar New Year period may struggle to reach the levels seen during the same period in 2025. However, bolstered by the involvement of several directors and lead casts with significant market appeal, the box office performance for the 2026 period still possesses a degree of assurance.
