On December 10, workers at the cherry tomato planting base in Daming County's Smart Agricultural Technology Industrial Park, Handan City, Hebei Province, were busy pruning the vines of cherry tomatoes.
According to Wang Zaiyong, the base manager, the facility spans 94 acres and features a 22,500-square-meter intelligent glass greenhouse. The cherry tomatoes are cultivated using soilless coconut coir substrate, with automated ebb-and-flow seedling beds for precise irrigation and fertilization. Environmental sensors monitor real-time temperature and humidity data, enabling full-cycle precision management of crop growth.
Harvesting is expected to begin by mid-December and continue until July 2026, with projected yields of 15–25 kilograms per square meter. Based on current market prices, fresh fruit sales alone could generate an annual output value of 3–5 million yuan.
In recent years, Daming County has leveraged technology to upgrade rural industries, positioning smart agriculture as a key driver of rural revitalization. This industrial park exemplifies the county’s push for agricultural modernization through advanced equipment and techniques, promoting standardization and eco-friendly practices.
