Asian Markets Open Mixed as Korean Benchmark Surges Over 2%

Japan's benchmark index started the session in negative territory, sliding 0.5% to open at 68,847.35 points.

In contrast, South Korea's main equity gauge kicked off trading with a robust gain of 2.1%, opening at 7,127.77 points.
