During the Spring Festival holiday, a critical period for energy supply security, Petrochina employees across various operations maintained their posts to safeguard public welfare and support production activities. From rapid emergency repairs in North China oilfields to uninterrupted work on renewable energy projects in Jilin, the company's staff demonstrated commitment through their actions.
At the Jidong Oilfield, operations continued on the sixth day of the lunar new year at the Liu 10-30 well site, where workers braved cold winds to conduct well interventions. Since the beginning of the year, Jidong Oilfield has implemented tailored development strategies for different reservoir types, including CO2 injection in shallow reservoirs, precise flow control and gas injection in mid-depth reservoirs, and pressure maintenance along with CCUS-EOR in deep reservoirs. These efforts have strengthened the foundation for stable production, enabling the oilfield to exceed its oil and gas output targets for January.
In Jilin, construction of a 450 MW wind and solar power generation project is advancing rapidly. At the project site during the holiday period, technicians like Li Ning were preparing for turbine installation. According to Qu Naitao, manager of the new energy construction project department, turbine hoisting was scheduled to begin on the ninth day of the lunar year if weather conditions permitted. The project has achieved significant progress: a 100 MW solar segment began feeding green electricity to the grid just two weeks after commissioning, with cumulative output already surpassing 3 million kWh. This initiative not only supports the transition toward greener operations for the mature oilfield but also plays a key role in peak shaving for Jilin’s gas-power grid.
To ensure both speed and quality, the Jilin team adopted efficient management approaches, including phased construction for solar and wind components and modular installation techniques that integrate turbines into existing well sites. Through design optimizations, competitive procurement, and improved installation methods—such as switching to blade-by-blade hoisting, which reduced land use per turbine by over 30%—the project has contained costs without compromising safety or performance. The full 350 MW wind segment is expected to be installed by April. Once operational, the combined wind and solar facilities are projected to generate over 800 million kWh annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 640,000 tons per year.
Meanwhile, in Hebei, Petrochina’s marketing branch launched a “Warm Journey Home, New Year Fuel Gifts” campaign to enhance service for travelers during the holiday rush. By combining targeted promotions, themed interactions, and detailed customer care, the company saw a 3.1% year-on-year increase in gasoline sales and nearly 20,000 additional customer visits by the sixth day of the lunar new year. Initiatives included cross-provincial marketing covering six regions, special coupons for returning travelers, and interactive activities such as holiday-themed livestreams and prize draws. In addition, 74 service stations set up “Spring Festival Traveler Stations” offering free hot water, phone charging, car cleaning, and other conveniences. Customer feedback participation rose by 20% compared to the same period last year, reflecting broad approval of these efforts.
In a notable incident on the third day of the new year, a gas pipeline leak was detected near well Antan 101x in North China Oilfield’s Langfang operational district. After an alarm sounded, operator Wang Qingtong immediately reported the situation, triggering an emergency response. Deputy manager Wang HaiJun, who had just sat down for a family dinner, left immediately, stating, “The dumplings can wait, but gas supply cannot.” Repair teams were quickly mobilized, and despite tight working conditions and cold temperatures, welder Chen Guoguang replaced a faulty elbow in the pipeline. The leak was fully repaired and supply restored within just four hours, ensuring no disruption to household gas usage during the festival.
Across its operations, Petrochina employees upheld their responsibilities during the holiday period, contributing to both public welfare and the company’s production objectives.
