Beibu Gulf Port-Launch of New Direct Shipping Route to Brunei's Muara Port Strengthens Regional Connectivity

Deep News12-05

The Beibu Gulf Port-Vietnam-Malaysia direct shipping route (CVM2), operated by Shanghai SITC Container Lines Co., Ltd., commenced operations from Qinzhou, Guangxi on December 5. By adding a stop at Brunei's Muara Port, the upgraded route further enhances connectivity between Beibu Gulf Port and Muara Port.

On December 4, the vessel "SITC INCHON" docked at Qinzhou Automated Container Terminal of Beibu Gulf Port. Muara Port is Brunei's sole international deep-water port and its primary gateway for global trade. With this new route, cargo transportation from Qinzhou Port to Muara Port now takes approximately 10 days.

Since 2017, Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group has been involved in Muara Port's operations, focusing on improving port capacity and service quality. The inaugural shipment carried nearly 3,000 tons of cement destined for Muara Port's container terminal expansion project.

Lyu Guoli, the Chinese representative of Muara Port Company, stated that since its launch in August 2024, the terminal expansion project has completed temporary cofferdams, land reclamation, and preloading works. The project is expected to be finished by August 2027. Currently entering a critical phase, the main terminal construction will soon commence, requiring substantial cement supplies for foundation work.

Upon completion, the upgraded port will boost trade zone development, enhance cargo handling and logistics capabilities, and strengthen Brunei's competitiveness as the gateway to the East ASEAN Growth Area.

Song Haitao from Qinzhou Bonded Port Area Honggang Terminal Company noted that stable operation of this shipping route will facilitate trade exchanges between China and Brunei, including fruits, seafood, and aluminum products, supporting the "port-industry-park" development model in Brunei.
