Mass Data Collection Sparks Concerns: Will Robots Accelerate Replacement of Related Jobs? JD.com Responds

On April 16, during the JD Embodied Intelligence Ecosystem launch event, JD.com introduced the JoyEgoCam ultra-high-definition data collection terminal. Described as the world's first embodied intelligence data infrastructure covering the entire workflow—from collection, storage, and labeling to training, evaluation, simulation, and testing—the device marks a significant step in the company's data strategy. In March, JD.com announced it was undertaking the largest data collection initiative in human history, aiming to accumulate over 10 million hours of real-world video data within two years.

As large-scale data collection advances, concerns have emerged about whether roles involving data collection or other repetitive tasks may face an accelerated risk of replacement by robots.

In response, the Vice President of JD Group and General Manager of JD Cloud's Basic Cloud Business stated, "Technological progress is irreversible—we must embrace it. However, we also see many new job opportunities being created. As we accelerate the development of embodied intelligence, we are witnessing a growing need for professionals in data collection. Technological advancement is inevitable, but its ultimate goal is to enhance people's quality of life."
