A McDonald's restaurant in Shenzhen's Longhua district has issued a statement after footage surfaced online showing a staff member pressing down on waste with a food tray inside a rubbish bin.

The video, shared by a customer on social media during the morning of September 3rd, appears to show the employee repeatedly pushing down on trash at the McDonald's Longhua Foxconn branch.

In response, a manager at the outlet confirmed that the employee's action deviated from the chain's official operating procedures. The restaurant has since carried out a thorough cleaning and disinfection of all trays on site.

The manager also clarified that dedicated tools are provided for compacting rubbish in McDonald's kitchens, and that all staff have been reminded of the correct waste-handling protocols and tray usage standards.
