Nanjing Port Achieves Record-High Container Throughput in July

Deep News08-20

Nanjing Port Co.,Ltd. announced that its container throughput in July broke historical records, achieving a remarkable 24% year-over-year growth. As a regional shipping logistics center and an important hub port in the Yangtze River Economic Belt construction, Nanjing Port leveraged its geographical advantages, expanded river-sea-river transshipment channels, cultivated traditional markets to "preserve volume," developed new business models to "create increments," and enhanced production capacity to "optimize services," injecting strong momentum into the historic breakthrough in container throughput.

Since the beginning of this year, Nanjing Port has deepened cooperation with COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, achieving breakthroughs in direct ocean routes and stabilizing scheduled services to the Middle East and South America. Building on the Yangshan Express service, the company launched and increased frequency of Waigaoqiao Express service to three times per week, with export loading rates averaging over 95%. The brand influence of the premium Nanjing-Shanghai express service continues to grow.

The port actively overcame the impact of tariffs on exports by comprehensively surveying markets in the Nanjing metropolitan area and surrounding regions. For strategic customers in white goods and photovoltaic sectors, it provided value-added logistics services including transportation, storage, and containerization for export products. Leveraging joint operation advantages, the port attracted bulk cargo sources such as malt, sulfur, borax, and copper concentrate for transshipment through Nanjing. The company promoted the expansion and efficiency improvement of the "single document" system for dangerous goods and enhanced inspection and clearance efficiency for imported meat products, continuously improving the port's specialized service capabilities.

Meanwhile, the port accelerated production capacity construction across various terminals, strengthened hardware configuration, and refined organizational management, continuously improving comprehensive service quality and efficiency. Since the beginning of the year, one shore crane was purchased, and six electric RTGs completed full automation upgrades along with ten semi-automatic rail-mounted gantry cranes receiving full automation upgrades. Projects including bulk cargo warehouse construction and dangerous goods yard capacity renovation are being accelerated, continuously improving production operation efficiency and customer service quality, effectively strengthening the port operation support system.
