Industry insiders revealed on Wednesday that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) plans to roll out a new version of Siri equipped with generative AI in South Korea this month, meaning Korean users will soon be able to experience this AI assistant.
Back in September, Apple already launched an English beta version of the new Siri ahead of other markets.
According to Apple, the AI-powered Siri represents a major upgrade in capability, offering a more conversational feel, the ability to understand personal context, a vast reserve of general knowledge, on-screen content recognition, and the capacity to execute various app operations across systems.
For example, if a user asks for the recipe of a dish they ate during a particular trip, Siri can search through the user's chat history and pull up the corresponding recipe link.
The AI version of Siri also features visual intelligence capabilities, with powerful image understanding and multimodal functions. Users can ask questions about content displayed on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro devices.
It is understood that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has already been working on adapting the AI-powered Siri to local Korean applications, collaborating with local tech companies such as Kakao and Naver to optimize the service.
The AI version of Siri is underpinned by Google's Gemini large model, but Apple stated that the feature operates within Apple's own security framework; data requiring AI processing is deleted immediately after a response is generated.
