Economic and social performance data for the first half of 2024 in Shandong Province was released at a press conference held in Jinan on July 21st.
Key figures from the announcement reveal that Shandong's lithium battery production capacity surpassed 340 gigawatt-hours (GWh) during this period, with output surging by 193.6% year-on-year.
Customs data from Jinan further highlights the rapid expansion of the province's "green" product exports. In the first six months, the export value of electric vehicles, lithium batteries, photovoltaic products, and wind turbine components and parts increased by 17.3%, 32.7%, 69.2%, and 38.9% respectively.
Looking at the broader economic picture, Shandong's gross domestic product (GDP) for the first half reached 5.3173 trillion yuan, representing a 5.6% year-on-year increase when calculated using constant prices.
As a major industrial and manufacturing hub, the province's value-added output from industrial enterprises above a designated size grew by 7% in the first half, which is 1.6 percentage points higher than the national average. Within this sector, manufacturing value-added output rose by 8.5%, exceeding the national average by 2.9 percentage points.
Among these large-scale industrial enterprises, the value-added output from foreign-funded enterprises, including those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, increased by 4.8% year-on-year.
The province is also accelerating the cultivation of advanced industrial capabilities. In the first half, Shandong established its first batch of 26 embodied intelligence robot training grounds. Production of industrial robots saw a significant year-on-year increase of 72.1%.
Concurrently, revenue from the core artificial intelligence industry grew by more than 30% during the same period.
