According to data released by Cox Automotive on Tuesday, the Tesla Model Y sold over 92,460 units in the United States during the fourth quarter of last year, with annual sales reaching 357,528 vehicles, making it the best-selling electric vehicle in the U.S. market.
However, compared to 2024, sales of the Tesla Model Y declined by 4%.
Tesla's other popular model, the Model 3, recorded sales of 37,260 units in the fourth quarter, a year-on-year decrease of 35.7%; its full-year sales reached 192,440 units, representing a slight increase of 1.3% compared to the previous year.
Tesla's market share in the U.S. electric vehicle sector surged to 58.9% in the fourth quarter, with total sales hitting 589,000 units, partly attributed to traditional automakers scaling back their electric vehicle production. Despite a major policy shift by U.S. President Trump, total U.S. electric vehicle sales in 2025 reached 1,275,714 units, a marginal decline of just 2% from the 1,301,441 units sold in 2024.
Interestingly, General Motors emerged as another strong contender in the electric vehicle space, with brands including Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC under its umbrella. The company sold over 150,000 electric vehicles in 2025, achieving a 48% year-on-year sales growth. This figure helped General Motors capture 13% of the total U.S. electric vehicle market share.
Meanwhile, Tesla's Cybertruck saw sales exceed 4,140 units in the fourth quarter, a sharp decline of 68.1% compared to the 12,991 units sold during the same period the previous year. Its full-year sales totaled 20,237 units, down 48.1% from the 38,965 units sold in 2024.
