Model Workers and Craftsmen Inspire Students with Their Stories

Deep News11-19

The power of role models and the spirit of craftsmanship were passed down to a new generation as the "Striving for a New Journey, Building a New Era" lecture series entered schools. The event kicked off at Yuming School in Xinjian District on November 17.

In the school auditorium, provincial model workers Huang Jinxiu and Chen Fanjing took the stage, sharing their unadorned yet moving stories to deliver a profound spiritual lesson to teachers and students.

Huang Jinxiu, a provincial model worker and "National Women's Pacesetter," gave a lecture titled *The Core Values of Socialism*, analyzing them from national, societal, and individual perspectives. Drawing from her experience in social governance and family education, she illustrated these values with classic references and real-life cases, making them relatable and learnable. She encouraged students to start with small daily actions, uphold moral principles, and navigate life with integrity.

Chen Fanjing, another provincial model worker, spoke about his decades of dedication as a grassroots doctor on Poyang Lake’s isolated islands. Since becoming a barefoot doctor in 1974, he braved storms to transfer patients and combed villages to prevent schistosomiasis, even after contracting the disease himself. Thanks to his perseverance, the local infection rate dropped from 70% to below 1%. He summarized his motivation in six words: "Diligence, Persistence, Gratitude," urging students to excel in any role through hard work and unwavering commitment.

In a classroom session, Yu Honggang, a master craftsman and director of Jiangxi Tujiangjun Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute, introduced students to the wonders of herbal medicine. Demonstrating various plants and processing tools, he explained the rigorous standards of TCM preparation and his own trial-and-error journey in perfecting medicinal formulas. "With dedication, anyone can become a skilled professional," he encouraged.

The event left a lasting impact. "Grandpa Chen’s perseverance moved me to tears; Teacher Huang’s insights made me realize responsibility lies in daily actions; touching the herbs made TCM’s magic feel real," said student Li Yutong.

Cheng Xiaoxing, principal of Yuming School, emphasized that such lectures will remain a key part of moral education, nurturing ideals, perseverance, and responsibility in students.
