Chipmaking equipment giant ASML Holding NV has revealed that Elon Musk will participate virtually in a closed-door internal technical meeting to discuss the Terra Wafer Fab project, which the company views as a significant industrial initiative.
ASML Holding NV has invited Musk to present the Terra Wafer Fab project to its employees. This joint venture between SpaceX and Tesla Motors is designed for the mass production of cutting-edge chips tailored for robotics, artificial intelligence, and aerospace data centers. The joint venture, announced in March of this year, recently finalized plans for a U.S. production site, with total project investment expected to reach no less than $55 billion.
A spokesperson for ASML Holding NV stated that Musk will share his vision on artificial intelligence, robotics, aerospace, and semiconductor manufacturing during the internal session. The company's management has already engaged in discussions with Musk regarding the Terra Wafer Fab project.
Musk, who serves as CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla Motors, has outlined a long-term plan for the project to eventually support an annual computing power output on the terawatt scale. This capacity is intended to meet the future computational demands from both companies as they expand their AI and robotics operations. The factory's target is to mass-produce state-of-the-art 2-nanometer chips.
ASML Holding NV is a core leader in the AI industry supply chain and the world's sole manufacturer capable of mass-producing high-end lithography equipment, which is essential for fabricating AI chips. Major clients include TSMC and Samsung Electronics. Driven by the global surge in AI investment, the company has seen a sharp increase in equipment orders, recently achieving a record-high market capitalization for a European listed company.
Musk aims to challenge industry leaders like TSMC, with planned production scales far exceeding current industry capacity limits. He has previously stated that the global semiconductor industry's pace of innovation is too slow to meet his future chip procurement needs, making the establishment of the Terra Wafer Fab essential.
The ASML Holding NV spokesperson added, "Through the Terra Wafer Fab project, Musk and his team are deeply integrating into the global semiconductor supply chain. ASML Holding NV and numerous other companies will collaborate to bring this project to fruition."
