Hong Kong's investment promotion agency has indicated that gold traders are showing interest in establishing operations within the Northern Metropolis area, including plans to construct a precious metals refinery.

Peter Liu, Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, disclosed in an interview that the agency has already assisted a Swiss precious metals company in setting up a regional headquarters in the city. However, he noted that if companies intend to build industrial parks in the Northern Metropolis, the process may take two to three years. During this transition period, the agency encourages businesses to first establish themselves in the Science Park or other locations in the city center.

In the first half of this year, Invest Hong Kong facilitated the establishment of 413 companies in the city, representing a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. Mainland Chinese enterprises accounted for 60% of this total. Liu mentioned that there has also been a notable increase in companies from the United Kingdom, Japan, and Singapore. He expressed confidence in achieving the key performance indicator of assisting at least 1,200 companies to set up in Hong Kong over the next two years. He further advised that companies looking to expand overseas should leverage Hong Kong's role as a risk management center and financial hub platform.
