Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on February 1st local time that the country plans to send humanitarian aid to Cuba, including food and other essential products, while simultaneously exploring "through all diplomatic channels" ways to resume oil shipments to Cuba despite US restrictions.
On the evening of January 31st, US President Donald Trump publicly stated that he had asked President Sheinbaum to halt oil deliveries to Cuba. On the same day, Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena responded by saying that Mexico would not suspend its humanitarian assistance to Cuba.
