Recently, Baidu's document titled "10,000 Common Chinese Names" has drawn public attention. Names such as "Zhang Jiwei" and "Lin Guorui" were found repeatedly appearing in procurement evaluations, competition award lists, and administrative penalty notices, sparking widespread skepticism.
It was noted that the award list for the "2025 Ink Dance Longdu—National Primary and Secondary School Students Standard Chinese Character Writing Competition" also contained names strikingly similar to those in another Baidu document titled "Ten Thousand Names."
On September 3, 2025, the WeChat public account "Calligraphy and Painting Competitions" published the award list for the competition, stating that the judging process had been successfully completed. The event, organized by the Puyang Federation of Literary and Art Circles and hosted by the Puyang Hard Pen Calligraphers Association, ran from May 30 to July 20, receiving 5,738 submissions.
Despite restrictions on writing styles, many entries showcased traditional roots, individuality, and fluidity, presenting a diverse range of outstanding works.
However, in the published award list, a significant number of names among the 80 grand prize winners overlapped with those in the online document "Ten Thousand Names." For example: - In Guangxi, 8 out of 12 winners, excluding the first four, had names and sequences identical to the document. - In Shaanxi, all 9 winners' names matched those in the document, with 7 appearing in the same order.
Notably, the names in these two regions were closely clustered, with only two names separating them.
Additionally, the third-prize list also featured numerous names identical to those in the "10,000 Common Chinese Names" document, particularly among winners from Henan, where hundreds of names matched despite some shuffling in order.
The competition underwent preliminary, secondary, and final evaluations, awarding 80 grand prizes, 200 first prizes, 800 second prizes, 1,000 third prizes, and several excellence awards.
A previous call for submissions in June 2022 mentioned a participation fee of 30 yuan per person (25 yuan for groups of 50 or more) and noted that award quotas could be adjusted based on submission quality.
