Ant Group's Wei Tao on Large Model "Production Standards": 99% Reliability is the Baseline, Otherwise It's Just an Auxiliary Tool

Deep News12-04

At the "2025 Digital Finance and Tech Finance Conference & Zhongguancun Fintech Innovation Competition Finals" held in Beijing on December 4, Wei Tao, Vice President and Chief Technology Security Officer of Ant Group Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Ant Cryptography Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech on the theme of "Building a New Digital-Financial Ecosystem and Charting the Blueprint for the 16th Five-Year Plan."

Regarding the reliability of large models, Wei Tao stated that for simple tasks, reliability typically ranges between 70%-85%, with top-performing models reaching 80%-90%. However, achieving 95% is rare.

He analogized, "For a student, scoring 80 or 90 in an exam is excellent. But for production-grade applications, if even one out of ten tasks fails, it becomes unacceptable."

Wei Tao emphasized that, given comprehensive market requirements, the baseline reliability for large models must be 99%—this is just the starting point. "If this reliability cannot be achieved, large models in industrial applications will remain merely copilots—auxiliary tools incapable of enabling full automation."
