U.S. Energy Secretary States Pipeline Network Expansion Could Diminish Strategic Significance of Strait of Hormuz

Deep News05-15

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright recently stated in an interview with CNBC that the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz to the global energy market is facing substantial decline as multiple energy export pipeline projects advance across the Middle East.

Wright noted that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are actively enhancing the capacity of their domestic oil pipeline networks. He emphasized that these pipeline expansion plans, designed to bypass traditional maritime chokepoints, will effectively hedge against the impact of geopolitical risks on global energy supplies.

Addressing the current Middle East situation and potential supply disruption threats, Wright suggested that Iran's strategic space for implementing countermeasures by blocking the Strait of Hormuz is narrowing. He indicated that the effectiveness of a blockade as a deterrent would diminish as alternative infrastructure becomes more developed.
