On March 27, it was announced that the Tianshan Gas Field, operated by PetroChina Xinjiang Oilfield Company, has exceeded a cumulative industrial natural gas production of 1 billion cubic meters.
The Tianshan Gas Field is a key block for scaling up natural gas reserves and production in China. It is a typical ultra-deep, ultra-high pressure clastic rock condensate gas field with complex geological conditions, making its development extremely challenging. Production wells exhibit significant variations in productivity between wells, and some produce water, adding complexity to development control factors and constraining the pace of rapid production growth.
Since trial production began in 2021, Xinjiang Oilfield has continuously advanced technologies related to geological characterization of ultra-deep gas reservoirs, description of reservoir seepage mechanisms, and trial production techniques for ultra-high pressure gas wells. Ten production wells have been commissioned, effectively supporting the rapid confirmation, development, and utilization of gas reservoirs such as Hutanyi and Tianwan-1. As a result, daily gas production at the field has surpassed 1.6 million cubic meters.
Since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Xinjiang Oilfield has vigorously implemented projects to increase reserves and production at the Tianshan Gas Field. By deepening integrated exploration and development operations, the company has swiftly brought online a number of high-yield gas wells, including Hutanyi and Tianwan-1. Concurrently, it has efficiently commissioned multiple natural gas processing facilities, such as the Tianwan LNG plant and the Hutubi Natural Gas Processing Station, establishing a comprehensive natural gas production and treatment system. These efforts have rapidly enhanced the field’s daily gas production capacity, laying a solid foundation for exceeding the 1 billion cubic meter cumulative production milestone.
Looking ahead, Xinjiang Oilfield will accelerate the pace of reserve confirmation and production capacity construction at the Tianshan Gas Field. It will focus on continuous breakthroughs in key technologies to further secure energy supply for residential needs, support the national "dual carbon" goals, and strive to achieve new milestones in daily gas production capacity.
