U.S. President Trump Set to Sign AI Cybersecurity Executive Order as Early as Thursday

Deep News05-21

According to informed sources, U.S. President Donald Trump is prepared to issue an executive order aimed at strengthening artificial intelligence cybersecurity as early as Thursday and has invited technology industry leaders to attend the event. Bloomberg News previously reported that the order Trump is expected to sign will reform existing cybersecurity information-sharing programs to include AI companies but will not mandate government approval for frontier models. It will call for frontier AI systems to undergo voluntary government testing to identify and patch vulnerabilities in federal, state, and local networks, as well as U.S. critical infrastructure, without imposing stringent new regulations. Sources indicated that invitations for Thursday's signing event at the White House have been extended to several technology industry executives, though it remains unclear who will attend. A White House spokesperson did not immediately comment on Wednesday evening. Leading AI developers OpenAI and Anthropic PBC did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Approximately one month ago, Anthropic disclosed that its breakthrough Mythos model can detect network vulnerabilities at an extremely rapid pace and may pose significant cybersecurity risks. Currently, the company only grants Mythos access to a select few large technology firms and Wall Street enterprises, while the potential new threats it poses to critical systems have already raised global alarms.
