Shandong is accelerating the adjustment and optimization of its academic disciplines and majors to deepen the reform and innovation of higher education.
A recent deployment meeting for this initiative was held in Jinan. The meeting emphasized the need to recognize the extreme importance and practical urgency of promoting higher education reform and enhancing its overall quality from a strategic and overarching perspective. It was stressed that the province must unwaveringly deepen these reforms, speed up the optimization of the academic discipline structure, and effectively accumulate competitive advantages and development strengths for Shandong to "take the lead and shoulder major responsibilities."
The meeting highlighted the necessity to fully promote the effective implementation of all tasks related to higher education reform and innovation. The focus should be on four key areas: layout optimization, supply-demand matching, deep integration, and reform and opening-up. Efforts should be made to play a "proactive move" in expanding capacity and improving quality, prospectively increasing high-quality resources, deepening classified and characteristic development, and resolutely winning the "Double First-Class" breakthrough battle. In terms of discipline adjustment and training model reform, an "active battle" should be fought by making extraordinary arrangements for urgently needed and scarce disciplines, precisely guiding the setting of disciplines and the adjustment of enrollment scales, adhering to pilot programs first, deepening industry-education integration, and building a high-quality talent training system. To shape "new advantages" in supporting technological innovation and industrial development, it is essential to strengthen the support of integrated innovation platforms, enhance organized scientific research, and streamline the achievement transformation chain. In stimulating motivation and vitality, "new paths" must be forged by creating a superior ecosystem to build a talent highland, promoting governance reform at a deeper level, expanding open collaboration from a higher standpoint, and driving digital and intelligent empowerment with a more forward-looking vision.
