During the YU7 GT Xiaomi Human-Vehicle-Home Full Ecosystem New Product Launch Event, Lei Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, delivered a speech.
Lei Jun referenced the online commentary "surpass Tesla" that flooded the livestream of the previous Xiaomi YU7 launch. He stated that Tesla Motors is the benchmark in the global pure electric vehicle sector, clarifying that such remarks are not disrespectful but rather reflect high public expectations for Xiaomi's entry into automotive manufacturing.
According to third-party data, from July 2025 to April 2026, Xiaomi YU7 sales reached 232,000 units, while Tesla Model Y sales stood at 358,000 units. Lei Jun acknowledged a significant gap but noted that losing to the global sales leader is no disgrace, expressing confidence in eventual success.
The newly launched Xiaomi YU7 Standard Edition accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.90 seconds, delivers a maximum horsepower of 320 PS, and achieves a top speed of 220 km/h. Equipped with a 73 kWh battery, it offers a CLTC range of 643 km. Fast charging from 10% to 80% takes just 20 minutes, with a 15-minute charge providing up to 405 km of range.
Priced at 233,500 yuan, the Xiaomi YU7 Standard Edition is 30,000 yuan cheaper than the Tesla Model Y. Lei Jun highlighted substantial cost pressures due to rising material prices, particularly for memory components.
