Last-Mile Connectivity Achieved: Huaihua International Inland Port Railway Line Opens

Deep News01-24 13:10

On January 23, a freight train fully loaded with cargo slowly departed from the Huaihua International Inland Port railway line, marking the official commencement of its operations. This initiative represents another significant step by Hunan's railway authorities in supporting the national "Belt and Road" initiative and strengthening the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. The Huaihua International Inland Port railway line, adjacent to the Huaihua West Railway Logistics Park, spans 1.37 kilometers and is equipped with two freight tracks, one locomotive moving line, and modern handling machinery including automated container gantry cranes, reach stackers, and forklifts, capable of handling up to 40 cars per batch. Utilizing diesel traction, the line has a design speed of 15 kilometers per hour, a hauling capacity of 2,000 tons, and a maximum gradient of 19%, making it well-suited for complex terrain and high-efficiency transport needs. The opening of this dedicated line ensures seamless connectivity between the Huaihua West Railway Logistics Park and the core operational area of the inland port, enabling efficient distribution for all goods assembled in Huaihua or dispatched locally via the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and related international freight services, thereby fully bridging the "last mile" of the port's collection and distribution system. "Previously, goods collected at the inland port had to be transported by truck to the Huaihua West Railway Logistics Park for loading. The new line significantly cuts transfer times, reduces corporate logistics costs, and directly enhances our company's market competitiveness," stated Zhou Jun, head of Huaihua International Inland Port. "With the line operational, the Huaihua West Railway Logistics Park has seen its capacity unleashed, overcoming previous handling bottlenecks and increasing its daily loading and unloading capacity from 120 to 170 cars," explained Wang Liang, head of the Huaihua operation department at the Changsha Railway Logistics Center under Guangzhou Railway Group. It is projected that the volume of inbound and outbound cargo at the logistics park will grow by an additional 25% from current levels in the future.
