At the 2025 China Gaming Industry Annual Conference held at Shanghai West Bund Exhibition Center, Pang Dazhi, Vice President of NetEase, delivered a keynote speech titled "Building Foundations with Hard Skills, Breaking Barriers with Soft Power," sharing insights into NetEase's global expansion strategy in gaming.
The recent overseas success of "Where Winds Meet," which topped multiple countries' bestseller charts shortly after launch and attracted over 15 million international players, was highlighted. Pang emphasized that this achievement stems not only from the game's high quality and free-to-play model but also from its authentic Chinese cultural elements like qinggong and tai chi, which captivated global audiences. This phenomenon demonstrates that "cultural boundaries disappear when faced with premium products."
Pang noted that while NetEase's initial overseas success reflects the company's efforts, it primarily represents an inevitable trend of the times. "China was once labeled the 'world's factory' relying on low-cost labor. Today, we're transforming into a 'knowledge-intensive' global innovation hub powered by highly skilled talent—this will become our core competitive advantage moving forward."
