The White House announced on Tuesday the launch of the first supporting initiative under the artificial intelligence cybersecurity executive order it issued in early June. This mechanism, named the "Golden Eagle Plan," involves the establishment of an information exchange hub by multiple government agencies and private companies. Participants can utilize this platform to collaboratively address cybersecurity vulnerabilities and synchronize response plans.
During a press briefing held on Tuesday, a senior White House official praised the contributions of open-source software vendors but did not disclose the specific companies or agencies involved in the project. When asked by a journalist about rumors that the White House is preparing a separate executive order targeting Chinese open-source technology, the official responded by emphasizing the administration's strong support for domestic U.S. companies. He stated: "Let me be as clear as possible, we are fully supportive of the U.S. open-source community and will do everything we can to bolster the strength of that community."
Several key details of the executive order issued in June remain to be finalized, including a voluntary review mechanism. Under this framework, artificial intelligence companies could proactively submit their models for government review before releasing them to trusted partners and the public. The executive order stipulates that this review framework must be developed within 60 days of the order's signing and enactment on June 2nd.
