Deep News04-28

The Fifth National Reading Conference · Silver Age Reading Forum was recently held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. This year's forum, themed "Senior-Friendly Reading, Discovering Happiness," focused on protecting the reading rights of the elderly, providing age-appropriate reading services, and utilizing technology to assist seniors. As a key part of the forum, the "Silver Age Bookshelf: Thousand Stations Initiative" plan was officially launched. Jointly initiated by China Older magazine and China Telecom, the program aims to establish 1,000 dedicated bookshelves for elderly readers across the country.

At the forum, China Telecom announced that it has already established 70,000 "Caring Wings Stations" nationwide, serving over 5 million elderly individuals annually. The company stated it will actively fulfill its corporate social responsibilities as a central state-owned enterprise, taking concrete actions to safeguard the well-being of senior citizens. The new bookshelf project will be deeply integrated with the elderly assistance services already offered at these stations, featuring activities such as book sharing sessions, health lectures, senior salons, and anti-fraud reading groups. This integration aims to combine cultural reading, tech assistance for the elderly, and safety education, transforming the bookshelves into accessible cultural hubs and spiritual retreats for older adults in their communities. The first batch of bookshelves has already been installed in "Caring Wings Stations" at China Telecom business halls in Nanchang, Jiujiang, and other locations within Jiangxi Province.

The "Silver Age Bookshelf: Thousand Stations Initiative" is noted as a significant outcome of the Fifth National Reading Conference · Silver Age Reading Forum. It signifies a shift from policy advocacy to practical implementation in elderly reading services, providing a replicable and scalable new model for delivering quality reading resources to senior citizens nationwide.
