Ship exports from Fujian Province reached 4.11 billion yuan during the first two months of the year, marking a substantial increase of 214.6% compared to the same period last year. This robust growth signals a strong start for the year.
As a major maritime economy, Fujian's shipbuilding industry has developed a comprehensive industrial chain and strong international competitiveness through intelligent and green upgrades, gaining favor in the global market. The European Union stands as the largest market for Fujian's ship exports. In the first two months, exports to the EU totaled 1.08 billion yuan, surging 361.9% year-on-year and accounting for 26.2% of the province's total ship export value during this period. Exports to Africa also showed vigorous growth, reaching 750 million yuan—an increase of 949.8%—comprising 18.4% of the total.
Exports of bulk carriers and tankers from Fujian posted impressive growth rates. Bulk carrier exports amounted to 1.78 billion yuan, up 223.5% year-on-year and making up 43.3% of the province's total ship exports. Tanker exports reached 1.3 billion yuan, soaring 15,280% and accounting for 31.6%.
State-owned enterprises led the exports, contributing over 90% of the total. Ship exports by state-owned enterprises in Fujian reached 3.8 billion yuan, growing 244.5% year-on-year and representing 92.5% of the province's total. Private enterprises exported 280 million yuan worth of ships, an increase of 39.4%.
This year, digital delivery, smart ships, and clean energy have become key drivers for Fujian's shipbuilding exports. For example, a chemical tanker set for delivery to a Singaporean shipowner features a dual-fuel design using methanol and diesel, complying with the International Maritime Organization's strictest Tier III emission standards. Orders for this vessel type alone total 30 ships, according to Lin Qun, a business manager at Fujian Shipbuilding and Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.
To support Fujian's shipbuilding industry in expanding overseas markets, Fuzhou Customs has advanced smart customs initiatives and the "Smart Customs, Strong Nation" campaign. By conducting field research to understand the specific needs of ship exporters and continuously optimizing supervision and clearance efficiency, the customs authority aims to help companies secure orders and explore new markets.
