Transport Ministry Launches First Round of Artificial Intelligence and Transportation Application Scenario Project Applications

Deep News20:10

The Ministry of Transport's General Office has issued a notice on July 23rd regarding the implementation of the first batch of "Artificial Intelligence + Transportation" typical application scenario projects. This initiative is designed to carry out the decisions of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and to implement the tasks outlined in the "Implementation Opinions on 'Artificial Intelligence + Transportation'" and the "Action Plan for Innovation in Typical Application Scenarios of 'Artificial Intelligence + Transportation'." The goal is to fully leverage the diverse scenarios within the transportation sector to accelerate the large-scale innovative application of artificial intelligence in the field.

Where to Apply

Provincial transportation authorities across the country, including those in autonomous regions, municipalities, and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, are responsible for organizing local project applications and recommending them to the Ministry. Additionally, units directly under the Ministry, centrally-administered transportation enterprises, co-built universities, industry associations, and alliances like the Transportation Large Model Innovation and Industry Alliance can also submit recommendations. Industry companies, AI backbone enterprises, universities, and research institutes are encouraged to explore and expand application scenarios through these channels.

Key Focus Areas

Projects must align with the goals of integrated, safe, digital, and green transportation development. Solutions should address core business challenges, create technically adaptable and effective solutions, and produce high-level model algorithms, quality datasets, and intelligent agents or terminals. The focus is on demonstrating the deep integration of AI technology with the transportation industry.

Project Types

There are three categories for applicants to choose from. The first is Application and Promotion, which focuses on mature technology and clear demand to accelerate the scaling of replicable solutions. The second is Innovation and Demonstration, which targets the integration and application of mature technologies to boost efficiency. The third is Research and Breakthrough, which concentrates on developing core technologies like algorithms and intelligent terminals, testing them in real-world scenarios to fill industry gaps.

Application Requirements

Projects must be driven by AI technology, deeply integrated into transportation operations, and avoid "pan-informatization" without an AI core. They should target specific, high-value problems with a "small incision" approach, ensuring solutions are adaptable and effective. Strong collaboration between industry, academia, research, and application parties is required. Projects must set clear, quantifiable targets and produce verifiable results, avoiding simple repackaging of existing work.

Implementation Process

The process begins with project submission, where applicants fill out a detailed proposal covering the overview, technology, plan, and expected outcomes, with a maximum implementation period of two years. The second step is organizational recommendation, where entities conduct reviews and evaluations before submitting their chosen projects. The Ministry then conducts a comprehensive evaluation to select the first batch of projects, followed by dynamic tracking and assessment to manage the project list. Funding support includes establishing a results database for nationwide promotion, prioritizing projects for national standards, and integrating successful outcomes into the comprehensive transportation large model system. Outstanding projects may receive priority support for inclusion in national key R&D programs, innovation projects, and prestigious awards.
